Bright eyes stared up at the vast cerulean skies. The white fluffy clouds speckling all that the eye could see and he couldn't help but giggle at them. He was most certainly certain one of those shapes looked like his mothers face when she was startled! Giggling louder as it changed slightly, Seiki rolled over and quickly made his way over to his mother, not wanting to miss the chance to share the awesome in the sky.

"Mooooooooooom! Mooooooom! Mommmy!!!! Look up! That cloud there looks JUST like you when I sneak up on you. All POOF! BAWHAHAA!" The little blue cub rolled around in the dirt near his mother, unable to stop himself from laughing at the cloud and the good memory of scaring his mum.

Once Seiki was composed however he looked and waited for approval from his mother. She was his everything, the person he looked up to most and who gave him all the best ideas. She was also the person he never wanted to let down, and who he wanted to protect most.

"I love you..." he pawed at the sky, watching the cloud, suddenly silent, as his heart raced a mile a minute. It was a big world out there, and one he would soon find to be confusing but beautiful. What sort of adventures would he get into, and what would he learn? Only time would tell.

The honeybadger admired the greenish hue in his daughter's coat as she watched her playing children. Kori'ashi was a very vigilant mother, but sometimes she let the anxiety take over her thoughts. Once in a while she was plagued with the terrifying 'what ifs' when she loses sight of a cub for just a minute. Hoco believed it was normal for a mother to fret like that, but it certainly wasn't good for her unstable health. Hoco shifted his gaze towards his grandchildren, a sparkle coming to his eyes as he watched the family he's desired for so long. Delicate little Pikushi, inquisitive Tisztességes, courageous Neguko, and the imaginative little Seiki. They were perfect, all of them.

Kori instinctively rose to her paws as one of her cubs let out a cry. "What is it, Seiki?" Her voice was weak and almost inaudible; it was still recovering from her latest illness. The lioness smiled and glanced skywards for the cloud Seiki was referring to. Kori squinted in an attempt to see a lion's face in one of the puffy white masses. The most she could see from them was a chunk of snow - then again, she didn't have the imagination of a cub. Kori chuckled and swiped the cub's face with her tongue. "Yes, I see it... And that little one next to it looks just like you." Kori grinned, it wouldn't hurt to humor the youngster.

Kori settled next to the cub as he continued to gaze at the sky. "I love you too, Seiki."

Seiki cocked his head to the side at his mothers comment, not really noticing the weakness in her voice. Did he really look like the smaller cloud next to his mothers scaredy-cat cloud? Pondering it for a moment he decided to believe her, even if to him it looked more like a fuzzy bird. Closing his eyes as he got a loving lick from his mother he couldn't help but giggle then look back up at her, then again towards the sky.

"I wonder if there will be one that looks like grandpapa!" Eyes glittered as he looked towards the honey badger happily. At his age he didn't really notice the strangeness of having a honey badge as a grandfather. He just knew he loved his grandpapa and that no one was as awesome and strong as him. No one! Wriggling around again to get comfortable the cub watched the clouds intently. One had to look like his grandpapa, or possibly like one of his siblings, or maybe even like his papa!

The avian family living near them had told him his papa was a beautiful eagle. The idea of this being the case always making him happy. Perhaps he would be able to fly one day like a bird! "Mom, will I be able to fly too?" Just the thought of being high up in the sky made his heart fill with glee. He could see everything! He could be higher than any tree he even climbed, sneak up on anyone he wanted and easily glide to the ground instead of having to carefully climb down a tree or jump from somewhere high.

Which reminded him that he had to pay his other family members a visit some time soon. They would be leaving the nest, his brothers and sister, and he certainly didn't want to miss out on such a special event.

"My brothers and sisters should be flying soon. I should be able to as well, right?"

Kori chuckled, clearly amused with her little cub's behavior. "If you look hard enough, I'm sure you'll find a cloud that looks like Grandpa Hoco, too. Maybe you can even find one for all of your brothers and sisters.. and Uncle Faeris! Our whole family would be in the sky."

The lioness's smile faded with the cub's innocent inquisition. Hoco quickly spoke up in fear that Kori might try to convince him that he will be able to fly one day. "No, sweetheart..." He said, waddling closer to the cub with a warm expression. "Lions can't fly. Cubs can't fly either." His feminine voice hesitated as he hoped he wouldn't sadden the young feline with this possibly crushing truth. "Uncle Faeris is a dog, and he can't fly either. I can't fly, and I'm a ratel." Maybe convincing Seiki he wasn't alone in his inability to fly would prevent him from feeling any sadness.

Kori'ashi looked away from the two as if overwhelmed with guilt. There was once a time she could enjoy the view of the earth from the sky on powerful wings. She was sad that she would probably never be able to do that again... and even more upset that her cubs would likely never have the same experience. Or so Hoco had explained to her on several occasions. She didn't see the danger in giving Seiki that sense of hope... He would grow out of his wild imagination eventually, right? Maybe not... Father knows best, after all.

Gasping at the idea of the whole family being in the sky like that, Seiki couldn't help but flick his tail back and forth with excitement, looking at the clouds expectantly. They all had to be there, if him and his mom were! "I will keep my eyes wiiiiiide open for the rest of the family!!"

While he watched the sky intently, he nearly missed his mothers smile fade, however a quick look to make sure she was also watching allowed him to see this. Frowning himself, he wondered if he had said something bad. Then grandpapa chimed in. Cocking his head as Hoco spoke, Seiki seemed saddened by the idea of him not being able to fly, however that feeling was fleeting as he listened intently.

His grandpapa was right! Neither his uncle nor his grandpapa could fly. They both seemed very happy too! Perhaps they were given other really cool gifts that those without the ability to fly didn't have. Actually, that was a perfect question to ask.

"Grandpapa, does that mean we have a special ability ourselves? One that flying siblings don't have?"
