Christmas time. Holidays were practically made for commercialism at this point, preaching about the joys of family and tradition, and a whole other lot of nonsense that didn't apply to him. Obsidian didn't much care for times like these, and retreated back into the Rift, taking familiar paths and allowing the full brunt of his aura to flare out in order to deter any youma who thought he might make an easy meal. They kept mostly to themselves, as it was, but it never hurt to send out a warning.
He could sense that he wasn't the only one prowling about under the surface today, and the General did pause long enough to cast his gaze in the direction that the source was coming from. Not a Lieutenant. A Captain, then--but who?
Obsidian paused for a moment, debating briefly, then set off in order to investigate. On the same team or not, Obsidian had no regards for anyone other than himself. Everything else was just playthings--and potential fodder.

The holiday season while it bothered him at times, seeing Christmas decorations up right after Halloween was over and before Thanksgiving, the holidays weren't all that bad. Spent with family, even if after some time he wanted to hide from them all, the gift wrapping and buying of gifts, tree selecting and decorating (of the tree and house), were the things he enjoyed. They were simpler, in his mind even if the gifts weren't so simple or cheap.
This year he'd even been giving to others, those who were in need. But today those things were set aside. Tomorrow family would be over and he'd have to deal with them, till he could slip away at least and go out to patrol around the city. Tonight was a night to wander the rift and get more familiar with a place he'd only been to a handful of times.
Blond hair brushed his back as the Captain, he hadn't been a Lieutenant in two months or so, let his feet lead the way to wherever they felt like going. The faint click of heels as his slate eyes darted around, constantly watching the youma. For while he had all the respect in the world for them, and would deffend them whenever he could against some knight or senshi, he didn't trust them in not attacking him. He didn't know them well enough to be sure his own safety was assured, and he was fairly sure it wasn't.
He felt someone else show up and wondered who, and almost as important was the why. He could feel out the level, they felt on par with Painite and Fluorite. Stopping he stood, waiting to see if they'd seek him out among the dilapidated, crumpling, buildings and youma.

It didn't take him long to run into the young man--woman?-- and the general promptly found himself circling the young captain with open interest. How many new recruits had the Negaverse ushered into its embrace in his absence? Too many, maybe, but it seemed as though the new plan of attack was to amass an army, rather than rely on a few, strong agents to strike when it was least expected.
"Awfully brave, wandering around in the Rift by yourself," Obsidian noted with a grin that never reached his eyes, still appraising the other as though deciding whether or not it was worth his time to associate. He could be dead in a month, a week, or even a few days, after all.
"Or are you searching for a partner?" Yes, the youma. It made his lips curl faintly in a sneer, but he wasn't about to comment. Not yet, anyway. He'd had Garbdis for a long time, after all.

While he was circled, and looked over like an animal in a show ring, he let his own eyes take in the red head when he could. Whenever the General came in front of him he was looking them over, quite the nice uniform, intimidating appearance, over all the blonds opinion was that the General was not one to cross paths with.
"I'll agree with that, and no I'm not searching for a partner. I was merely acquainting myself with this place - properly. No one to distract my attention." He stated while glancing around them both. He knew it wasn't the safest thing to do, coming alone, but he wanted to explore on his own, at least some areas down here.
Hesitant, taking a breath, the blond offered a slight bow of his head. "Captain Benitoite, I've never had the honor of seeing or meeting you General." Meeting anyone, especially those who'd been around longer than himself, was an honor. They were bound to be far more capable than himself, and someone from whom he could learn and better himself.

"No? When we were first made captains, getting our very own youma was such a rush!" There was a sly edge of mockery in his words, as though it had been so long since he had been made captain. It hadn't been. Not as long as it felt, anyway. Obsidian had no desire to fill the void that had been ripped out when Garbdis had died. It was a weakness that he would not force himself to rely on.
He inclined his head just so at the greeting, clicking his tongue almost thoughtfully against his teeth. "Obsidian." No formalities, but woe to the Captain if he thought that was an invitation to forget them as well.
"Have you killed yet, Benitoite?" Was what Obsidian really wanted to know, leaning forward as though it was a particularly juicy secret that he was just dying to sink his teeth into.

Was it really a rush? It was one conversation he'd never had with anyone, finding out about personal youma. He actually knew little about it, aside from the fact it was like a bond and they helped their bonded officer. He was lacking in knowledge and while he disliked this fact he hadn't sought to rectify that.
Obsidian...not a name he'd ever heard, but one he would certainly remember. The question was a surprise, though it really shouldn't have been. Perhaps more of a surprise would be his own answer, as he doubted he looked much like a killer or had the air of one who had killed. It was with a hesitancy that he answered, maybe this was a show to his own weakness.
"Yeah, two times. Though I took three starseeds." He didn't elaborate further, he didn't want to unless questioned further; he couldn't deny a request for further detail.

Oh, with a juicy bit of information like that, how could he not pry? The general was all ears, his grin now decidedly shark-like. "Oh, do tell. How do you get a starseed without killing? Unless, of course, you scavenged..."
His tongue traced his lips for a moment, and he was distracted, thinking about starseeds in particular. It was too much of a rush to even put into words. Cracking it open with your teeth, filling the power surge through your veins almost instantaneously... He sighed a bit wistfully.
"I'm waiting~" Obsidian chimed in again, fixing a piercing stare on Benitoite.

Perhaps he should have expected further questions but the question took him by surprise, if the flash in his eyes didn't give that away. "Scavenged?" A shake of his head followed the words. "No. It seemed the person hadn't died immediately - and I -" He what? Couldn't kill the person? No, he hadn't been able to, it was why the numbers weren't the same.
"I was told it can happen, and that it leaves two options. Leave them as they are or finish them." And he hadn't killed them, but he hadn't left them. Someone else had handled his mess, because he'd been unable to. He still wasn't able to, even though the two kills had come after that incident. He'd had no choice in the matters both those times, he'd had to kill them. But no, he couldn't do that again.
Oh, how the General's gaze unnerved and unsettled him, he seemed to be enjoying this. Not only that but the blond had the distinct impression that the other had no issues in killing, maybe even enjoyed it?
