History
Unlike its previous two characters, Crypton advertised Luka's 3GB vocal database as "Japanese" and chose her name to express its hope that she will transcend borders and cultural barriers. At the time of Luka's release, there was a growing interest in English speaking Vocaloids. Luka offered both languages for the price of one to Japanese Vocaloid users giving them the chance to test their skills at English capable Vocaloids. Luka was designed by the Japanese illustrator Kei, who had previously created the designs for Hatsune Miku and Kagamine Rin and Len.

Usage for Music
The Vocal Character series were designed to be a set of vocals with particular characteristics about them, her vocal description is that she is "moody yet husky female voice" and she was designed to handle moodier genres like Jazz. Her vocals are soft and on some notes she has a lisp-like sound, making her voicebank more limited on versatility compared to past Vocaloids in the Character Vocal series. She is also unrealistic sounding like other CV series Vocaloids as the focus is on her vocaloids performance not its singing results. She makes up for this by having access to both Japanese and English voicebanks, however in both cases the vocals for both voicebanks is soft and either voicebank alone placed her at a intermediate level of difficulty. However, for one to have to learn the structure of two languages to make full use of her software, she was considered the most advance Vocaloid on sale at the time of her release; a title she held onto until SeeU was released in 2011.

Personality
Out of all the vocaloids Luka is defiantly one of the most mature. Being somewhat of a mentor for many of the vocaloids Luka is,fun, kind, thoughtful and full of good advice. Luka prefers to think things though and not act solely on rash emotions unlike other vocaloids like Meiko or Rin. While this is usually a good quality she can sometimes over think things, allowing great things to pass her by. Luka has a lot of confidents in who she is, how she looks and how she sings, so she carries herself with pride. Though she has pride in what she does, she almost never comes off snobby, however sometimes that same pride can get in the way of valuable life experiences, fearing that she could hurt herself or her image.
