Fritz was really starting to regret the decision he'd made to have this little "arrangement" with Veer. It didn't really sit right with him, a sour taste left in his mouth, but really there was nothing to be done about it anymore.

And it wasn't like they were really cheating, really. Just...helping each other out.

With the answers.

Sighing to himself, Fritz made his way up the walkway towards the building where Veer lived, glancing down at the scribbled address on the scrap of paper the other had given him. He hoped he was in the right place when he stopped at the door, squinting at the messy handwriting.

He sighed again. Then lifted his hand and knocked.

It was not that cold out, at least -- a fortunate thing, since it took Veer a bit to get to the buzzer and let Fritz in. The building was relatively new, late seventies maybe, with decor that made that rather obvious, and an elevator that rattled enough to make people nervous when they stepped on. Fritz could risk it or take the stairs, and whichever his choice, he'd be able to spot Veer's apartment easily enough, if only because of the red-haired pain in the a** leaning in the doorway and paging through emails on his phone.

He blinked, looked up at Fritz, and raised an eyebrow at him, maybe reading some of that uncertainty in his face or his posture. "I guess you found it, at least?"

Apparently Veer was sleeping. Or something.

Standing there awkwardly on the front porch, he gave a small sigh, debating whether or not he should just get up and walk away instead of going into this. Pushing the small scrap of paper into the pocket of his jeans, he had started to turn away when he heard the buzzer go off.

He took the elevator - which clattered noisily and obnoxiously - and found Veer lazing about against his doorway, looking completely unconcerned about everything.

"Hey," said Fritz. "And, er...yeah. I did. What's up?"

"Finals." It came with just a hint of a sigh, a brief huff of breath, and Veer stepped back out of the doorway to let Fritz in. Unfortunately, this let him see the apartment: better every week than it had been before, the place was still a wreck, with a pile of empty cardboard boxes by the door from finished online purchases, coats in a pile under the coat rack, a mix of clean and dirty dishes on the dining room table, like he'd forgotten which were which and had just given up.

Absently, he smoothed a hand over his hair, tucked the phone back into his pocket, and gestured to the couch. "Uh. I figured. You'd need something, we could get papers sorted, problem sets..."

"Finals is a dismal sounding term," said Fritz agreeably as he stepped into the apartment.

...which was...rather messy, if he did say so himself. But he moved casually through the room, artfully dodging an empty cardboard box to make his way towards the couch, where he flopped down, his schoolbag in his hand.

"Right then. What should we start with first?"

"How about you give me your problem sets for review, and I'll give you my lame-a** paper topics?" He wiggled his fingers in Fritz'z direction as he flopped down onto the couch. There was a dining room table, potentially better for them to get a little work done, except -- it was covered, right now, in old, unopened mail. Veer was apparently bad about getting that dealt with. A leather coat draped over half of it. His table was storage.

"Or, if you have a final, your study sheet or whatever." A fluid shrug, and he blinked up at Fritz, expectant.

Reaching into his bag, Fritz lifted one leg and pulled it towards him, idly flipping through the notebook he held in his hand.

"Here," he said, pulling out a single sheet of paper that had a list of scribbles scrawled down it, peppered with various sketches and scribbles.

"My mathematics professor told us our final is on Tuesday, but I still can't figure out these equations," Fritz explained. "That's everything I'm supposed to know."

Reclining back further, he rubbed his fingers over his brow, a slight frown on his face. Doing this, though it wasn't... technically cheating still gave him a bad taste in his mouth, like he had eaten something rancid.

But, he'd agreed, and so here he was.

"Your turn."

Veer's eyes flashed over the page as he took it, and didn't lift -- yet he managed to somehow fumble his own be-pinned bag open and haul out an extremely rumpled assignment, three pages stapled together with instructions. Topic sentence to conclusion, the rubric was, at least, detailed. He had that going on.

He made a rough sound as he finally finished the equations, frowning at Fritz and offering the assignment in his free hand. "I don't know if you can do this. Are you sure you don't just want me to sneak in there and take this for you? It'd be easy as s**t, I'm sure, the TAs never know who's who or ask for ID, to they...?"

Of course, that really would be cheating. And Veer didn't seem to mind.

He reached a hand out and took the rubric, attempting rather in vain to smooth out some of the crinkles. Clearly Veer did not really care about the presentation of his material. Glancing over it, Fritz pressed his lips together musingly, already lost in thought.

At least until Veer spoke, jolting him away. A frown crossed Fritz's face, briefly, replaced quickly by a mild smile.

"No, that's all right," he said lightly. "I can take the test myself. Also your topic needs at least one more source to back it up."

"********." It was a grumble, Veer leaning forward to take the page back out of Fritz's hands and scan the text. He looked too fast to actually read anything, must have just been letting his eyes dance over the letters on the page, the shape of his handwriting. "Maybe I'll just make one up. They can't look that hard, can they?"

With that said, he set to it -- setting aside Fritz's review information and scrawling in a made up source that sounded interesting. And that sounded, well, non-English-speaking. A good, overtly ethnic Pakistani name, he though, would make it more likely that no one would look too deep into his source.

"What do you want to do about your test? I mean, it's the equations you have to know. They're just going to ask you to plug the numbers in, I'm guessing..."

Fritz said nothing about what Veer was doing to his research paper, instead squinting at the equations on the sheet in front of him. Veer was right, he would have to plug in the numbers somehow...and he wasn't that good at math...

...but he wasn't a cheater, either.

But here you are, said that little nagging voice in his head, which Fritz attempted to ignore by shaking his head slightly.

"I dunno," he said finally, heaving a sigh. "I guess I'll just...study harder..."

"Or get a water bottle." He looked up from his writing with a blink, and raised both eyebrows at Fritz. Veer's eyes were bright, a flicker of something pleased coming into his expression as he set down the pen. Figuring out ways for Fritz to cheat was much more fun than doing his own work.

"You carefully strip off the label and inside, you write all your equations. Then, every time you take a sip, voila, the answers." He pantomimed the action, flashing Fritz a grin as he did, briefly taking in the uncertain expression on the other man's face.

"It's not a big deal, anyway. You're not going to use any of this s**t in real life. And in real life you'd be able to google it anyway."

Fritz stared blankly at Veer.

"A water bottle?" he said, sounding thoroughly flummoxed as to what exactly the other was talking about. He frowned a bit, absently tapping his pen against his cheek.

"I've, er...never heard of that method before," Fritz admitted, and shifted through the papers in his hands again, as though not quite sure what to do with them. He felt distinctly uncomfortable, and he leaned back on the couch, crossing one leg over the other. A small smile tugged at the corners of his lips.

"I think I'll figure it out eventually."
