As far as Ever was concerned, a club was really not the place for holiday celebrations -- but this was America, and as things stood, the Christmas season had a way of infecting everywhere and everything. Usually his battered clothes, dark pants with the knees worn out and faded tie, were more or less acceptable in the crowd, made him blend in. Tonight, it seemed to make him stand out, one of the few people not sporting red or green, not bedecked in fur-trimmed dress or jacket or sporting a hat crooked on his head.

The lights weren't bad, he thought, leaning back against the bar and twitching at just how short some girl's 'Mrs. Claus' dress was. He turned his eyes upward, thoroughly uninterested in what color panties she was wearing. The lights were actually kind of nice, suited the atmosphere, flickering red and green and white as the music pulsed. And, at least, he could get his drinks cheap, some eggnog deal that ended up less expensive than his usual without compromising on the alcohol factor.

It was just the breath of fake snow that was starting to get to him, the club owners overcompensating for the lack of seasonal weather, for global warming's impact on their December. The snow was itchy, and Ever wasn't sure if the club atmosphere, if the dancing and the hum of people, was even really worth it, when it was so seriously impacted by holiday cheer.

American clubs were great. Shahar bounced through the venue, wearing an atrocious Christmas sweater that she had been given as a Christmas gift from one of her superiors and her favorite pair of black leather pants. She had things in her closet other than these pants, she really did- these, however were her favorite.

She'd been one of the teeming mass on the dance floor for a while, tossing back a lot of pretty much whatever was passed her way. It had looked like it was going to be a pretty good night, when the guy's girlfriend showed up and snatched away the first of Shar's many chances for happiness that night. Oh well, there was always a second chance!

Leaving the group of half-high drunken and very warm bodies was tough, but she had to find someone new to pay for her drinks, after all. Unfortunately, alcohol didn't pay for itself.

Her turquoise eyes scanned the crowd, lighting at last on her target of choice. A cutie, too! She scooted his way, trying to see if she could gauge anything about them. Not interested, it seemed, in the short skirt in his face. Hmmmmm. Could be risky, but she'd do anything for another drink.

"Hey cutie." She leaned up on the bar next to him, not batting her eyelashes, bt close. "How about buying me a drink?"

Ever still smelled, faintly, like cigarettes; the lingering effect of his last break out the back door, standing in the back alley and watching a handful of escaped patrons giggling down the way, debating the pros and cons of just a quick drain. All three had been toting mistletoe in their pockets. It would have been fair and just punishment. But tonight wasn't about that, wasn't about powering up and sending off a Negaverse here signal flare. Instead he'd huffed out a cold breath and come back here.

His drink wasn't full enough. He rattled it in his hands, for a moment ignoring her comment -- except, no, it wasn't ignoring. It was, to some degree, clueless. 'Cutie' wasn't the term most people used for his oversized nose, for the scrawny frame, even when expertly disguised beneath black on black and a loose-fitting vest. After a moment he blinked up from his glass, met her eyes -- and froze. Processing. Running through what had just come out her mouth.

Finally he smiled, a creeping smile, surprised and amused and maybe just a little bit flattered, and he raised an eyebrow. The voice that came out was dry, exaggerated, gayer than he ever sounded. "Honey, you're barking up the wrong pole."

Shar tottered in her boots, peering at the white-haired male in front of her as though she were near-sighted, squinting to try and make one of him. She leaned in, eyes narrowed. Scrawny, but he had character. It was a shame he was the wrong pole, because she might have enjoyed it. Still might, though she knew from experience the look on his face the next morning would be memorable.

"Honey, I don't care whose pole you bark up." Ahh, honesty. The best policy. "I can live with a strike out. But I'm thirsty, and I've been mooching all night. Don't break that streak, I'm begging you." (The bartender rolled his eyes.) "We can sit back and ogle the snackies for a while, see what else we've got in common."

Hey hey, they both liked guys! Thing in common #1. And they were both in a bar- it would count for 2.

The sound Ever made was faintly amused, his head tipped to the side as he fished out his wallet -- prying it open to show her the weak handful of bills he had at hand. Enough for three drinks, maybe, if he went cheap. Nothing top shelf, nothing complex. Vodka. Tonic. It'd get him drunk.

"...make a deal with you." It was careful, his head tipped to the side, with a glimmer of amusement in his eyes. This wasn't going to be much of a deal. "I'll buy you one, so that you don't break your streak. Then you buy me one, to make up for it."

Shar leaned in as the cutie pulled out his wallet, hopefulness gleaming in her eyes. Well s**t. She sighed, eying the lanky boy. "How about this. You buy me a drink, then I find someone to buy you one? Or we make a date for another night? I don't have a wallet on me." It wasn't that she couldn't just go out there and snag some guy's money, that wasn't the question at all. The question was where she would put said money once she snagged it.

There was a reason she didn't have a wallet. Her pants had no pockets, and her cleavage wasn't ample enough to do what some women did and use her boobs as a purse. She cared to make sure there were none of those awkward lines in her clothing, and if she'd done a pirouette for Cutie, he probably would have seen it to. "I'm Shar, or Shay. Also know as 'Hey, you,' 'b***h, what'd you do that for,' and 'Skank.' Depends on if I was up on your significant other or not." She leaned in, eying his drink. And then paused. "Am I going to have to deal with any significants, Cutie?"

He made a sound, attention turned out into the crowd, eyeing his own prospects for potential drink-buyers, and for the first time in ages he actually looked uncertain. Did having someone buy you a drink count as some kind of infidelity? What if you chatted them up? What about -- good lord, what about dancing with them? Monogomy seemed difficult, problematic, and her question only dug the issue a little bit deeper.

Ever pulled a face as he looked back toward her, covering up real insecurity with amusement, a careful flash of a smile. "...no, I think you're safe, if only because he knows I'm pretty thoroughly entrenched in my home team."

He tipped the glass back, ice tumbling into his mouth so he could crack it between his back teeth, fidgeting where he stood. "I'm Ever, and I'll buy you a drink if you can get a girl to buy me one."

It was dry. He didn't think that likely, and it showed.

Shar could barely hear anything over the rumble of people in this place, but she could see some emotion cross his face, one she wasn't quite sure how to gauge. Uncertainty wasn't something that often came up in clubs, at least not in the circle of people she usually slept- well, there would, technically, be no sleeping involved- with, or the people she usually drank with. Whatever was he thinking about?

"Good, because I'll pick a fight with a girl any day, but men fight dirty." Shahar flashed Ever a coy, lopsided grin. Most people would say things the other way, but the girl took a rather perverse delight in being backwards.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Ever, and you..." Shar surveyed the crowd. She'd be able to get some money, if she played a little dirty. And this guy would be fun. "You're on."

He made an amused noise, head tilted to the side, the last of his concerned thoughts flitting away as he took in that coy smile, the slight raise of her eyebrows, the glitter in his eyes. Ever had little interest in women, but that didn't mean he couldn't like her. A little bit. She was daring, at least, and more like him than not, and if he'd just voiced his monogomy issues she probably would have understood a hundred percent.

"She has to buy it for me, too, damnit. No lying to her about who it's for." There was still some ice in his glass. Ever looked down at it and then shook his head, sliding it back toward the bartender. Chewing on ice was a sign of frustration; he remembered that from a brief dip into psychology. He wasn't going to indulge.

"Let's see what you can do."

(Shahar understood the monogamy concept. She hadn't found any one person she wanted to be with, however.)

As the man offered up his stipulation, Shar threw him a playfully outraged look. "You don't believe in making this game easy for me at all, do you? Not only do I have to get the girl interested in me, but then you, all without even being able to promise her a threesome." She clucked her tongue, and glanced back at her target. No longer was that one sufficient for her purposes, she decided, which was a shame. Shar did so like blondes, even if it was out of a bottle. It was a weakness, perhaps?

She leaned back against the bar, contemplating, tapping her nails on the wood. "Anything else you have for me?" she asked, deciding she would check before she waded into the frenzy. Shar might not be American, but she loved the bar scene here. There was going to be someone out there she could manipulate into buying an attractive man a drink.

He hadn't said she had to tell the woman he was gay. At least not yet, though that might be coming soon.

No, maybe it wasn't; he just blinked at her, somewhat bemused, and tilted his head to the side, shoulders hiking upward in a brief shrug. He didn't care what she told the girl, or perhaps he hadn't thought that far ahead. As his eyes settled on Shahar's face, though, something clicked, pale eyebrows knitting together.

"If you get me into trouble, you have to help me get out of it." He paused, breathed, and twitched a little smile. "I don't mind the getting in part, though."
