Wrathful Demigod

Poe was bored. Not a state of being she was especially good dealing with. She certainly wasn't about to put up with it now, not when there was surely something more interesting going on somewhere that would entertain her. Problem was she currently broke, and it was pretty chilly it. There was no way she was hauling her a** across town on foot to get to the gym, and without any money the bus was out of the question. Sure she could have wandered over to the bus stop, hoped the drive was a guy, and that they responded well to a young woman sweet talking them, but what if they weren't? Wasted time. No thank you.

This left Poe with limited options to work with in her quest for stimulation. Genie was out.. somewhere. Poe wasn't sure where, and she was doing her best not to think about it. If the other girl was out having fun without it, it was just going to piss Porsha off, and she was already irritated enough, thank you very much.

So with Genie unavailable, that pretty much only left Jude as a possible source of fun. She was on her way to his house now, shoulders hunched so her collar covered her ears and hands buried in her pockets. It was a Shame Ethan had had to go away for college, he was also good for some fun. Oh well, beggars couldn't be choosers. Or at least shouldn't. Really that never stopped Poe.

She hopped up the steps to the familiar house, wondered briefly if she should have called first, then shrugged and knocked.

Her knocking got a riot of activity on the other side of the door -- shouting to answer the goddamned door and an answering quiet murmur that sounded, well, nicer than it deserved. Poe knew Jude, likely knew that he was a doormat, probably knew that, when something crashed to the floor, he likely paused to pick it up. It meant she had to wait in the cold for a bit before the door opened and he blinked out at her.

Jude looked startlingly unkempt -- for him. No vest. No suspenders. His collared shirt, instead of being neatly tucked into place, was loose around his hips, making him look less like a properly dressed young man and more like he was playing a game in his daddy's clothes. He stared at Poe for a moment and then flushed, slowly, scrambling to tuck it in without even thinking.

"Uh. Hi. Uh. Need something?"

Poe did know Jude, and not a single sound that came from the depths of the house surprised her. She stood their waiting with her hands in her pockets and wondered if this were the same here as they'd ever been. Well, minus Ethan. She supposed that put a bit more pressure on Jude, hopefully he was handling it alright. She did wrinkle her nose at the sound of their mother's voice. As a person she probably would have liked the woman, but she wasn't just some random lady, she was a mother, their mother, and it seemed to Porsha that the boys were doing a lot more for themselves then she ever did for them.

She'd never said as much of course, it wasn't really her place. That wouldn't usually stop her from being rude, but she didn't want to make things worst for Jude.

The door opened, and Porsha stared back at the young man that met her. It looked like Jude, sounded like him, but she couldn't remember eve seeing him in such a casual state of dress. It had her lips pursing, brows twitching upward as he stammered a hello and began tucking in his shirt. "Hey," her eyes lingered on his hands as he straightened himself out. "Not really, bored. I was curious of you wanted hang out."

He finished tucking, and she glanced up to his face, then over his shoulder and into the house. "Everything okay?"

"I was doing dishes." It came out suddenly, defensively, like he was embarrassed to be seen with his shirt untucked -- in a world where girls wore skirts short enough to be considered belts, no less. Jude was still pink, shooting a look back over his shoulder as well, and immediately tugged the door further toward closed, enough that it blocked her view of the living room. Probably because that, too, was a mess, desperately in need of tidying, something he didn't have time for right now.

Almost immediately, he realized how belligerent that was -- and the breath puffed out him, Jude didn't apologize, not quite, but he looked apologetic, smoothing at his bangs again. "Um. I mean."

He floundered, licked his lips, and stepped forward so he could close the door the rest of the way, standing on his front stoop in his socks to blink out at her. "...yes. Maybe not here, right now, though? I could...I could go get my shoes."

Plum brows crept upward at his tone, it wasn't really like Jude to sprig and attitude, but then again, it also wasn't like him to go about so underdressed. He tugged the door closed a little more, and for the second time she wandered if perhaps there was more wrong then just the normal. She'd seen the inside of his house before, many times, so it wasn't as though she'd never seen it in disarray. She didn't like that he felt he had to hide it from her. She didn't really like the attitude either, come to that.

The apologetic look was enough to sooth whatever mild annoyance she felt with him, and as he moved to smooth his bangs she reached out to give the soft blonde a little flip, smiling.

He still looked a little more flustered then usual. She watched him thoughtfully as he licked his lips and stepped forward to close the door behind him, her pervious smile fading around the edges a little. "Yeah sure, we can go somewhere else." She wasn't sure where, but they'd figure it out.

Mention of shoes made her glance down at his socked feet, then back up to his face. "Really, is everything okay?"

"Holidays." That was all the explanation he was going to give, but probably not out of spite; it was just that Jude assumed everyone was tense around the holidays, everyone fought and growled and grumbled and scrabbled to put things together. He waved off the concern and retreated to fetch shoes, to finish dressing, and when he came back he was more himself. Vest over his shirt. Brightly colored suspenders. His hair in a state of disarray, but that was probably due to his attempts to pull a very unattractive puffy jacket, a hand-me-down, over the rest of his clothing. It didn't match. It left everything in static. Alas.

"Sorry. I mean. Sorry." Yes, that was exactly what he meant. He blushed, joining her on the stoop and struggling with a sticking zipper, head tipped down. "I should've let you in, it's cold out, but...um."

He dug for a good excuse, risking a look up at her as the zipper finally caught. "But then you'd have to do dishes too."

She took his answer about holidays being the cause for his flustered state, not because she truly believed it, - though I could very well be true for all she knew. - But because she didn't think she was likely to pry any other answer from him. She'd asked though, and that was what mattered. If something was wrong, and her wanted her help, he'd ask her. Hopefully. "Ah, yeah. It's a stressful time of year." With that she let it go, then cooled her heels on the porch while he went to fetch shoes and make himself more presentable.

When he returned she smiled, then chuckled at the state of his hair while he apologized. "I would have helped." Or at least stood there and kept him company while he finished up. Either way. She didn't like chores, but if they had to be done before Juse was free to do as he pleased, she'd have lent him a hand.

"Hold still a sec." Grinning, she stepped forward so she could run her hands through his hair. Smoothing it down and chasing away a lot of the static. When she'd done all she could for it she used her grip on his head to pull him forward so she could give him a fond peck on the forehead.

Sure she gave him a hard time nearly everyone she saw him, but that was Poe's nature. It was moments like this, the care she took to fix his hair or the kiss, that proved just how much she really did care for the younger teen. They'd been friends forever, and that meant something.

This was, likely, more the Jude she was used to; flushing abruptly, fingers going to the slightly-crooked knot in his tie, torn between embarrassment and, well, at least getting a little bit of attention. He rolled his shoulders in a quick shrug, one of his own hands sliding up to make sure she hadn't made his hair worse [probably not a ridiculous concern] and then risked another look up toward her face.

"Do you want coffee? I could get us coffee, maybe. Or, um, I don't know." He took another step away from the house, jacket still mostly unzipped, chilly and awkward. He looked hopeful, though, as he blinked up at her. Grateful for any excuse to get out.

She chuckled softly at the wash of color along his cheeks as he fidgeted with his tie, and took the end of the silk bit of fabric between her fingers, tracing the pattern absently. "I didn't mess your hair up," she mused, defensively, but considering their history together it was hard to fault him for his concern. Usually she only bothered to fluff his hair when he'd taken more time taming it, it was just more fun that way.

Cleaned up, when you ignored the slight awkwardness, he was cute. Now if only he had a little more confidence, a touch more charm. Then he'd even give Ethan a run for his money.

What he lacked in charisma though he made up for with fluster ability, and for someone that took a certain amount of pleasure form making the young man blush, that was almost as good.

"Sure, if you want." If he was offering to buy, all the better.

With an almost wicked sort of grin she slid in close to his side, arms curling loosely around his own, and tipped her chin up to rest it against the side of his shoulder. "What ever you want to do, I'm game."

She did have a way of rattling him, and thoroughly; Jude blinked at her, unsure what to do with a girl hanging off of his arm, flicked one look back to the house, and then drew her away. Another time, he might have stood and stammered. Today, he was only too glad for any excuse to escape, and if it happened to be a cheerful female friend giving him a hard time, so be it.

"Slave to the Grind, then." Sure, he was flushing, but he moved with determination, double checking his pockets for keys and wallet if only so he wouldn't have to look sideways at her. Or think about the fact that a girl was touching him. "I can get a discount or free stuff, depending on who's in."

The continued darkening of the color along his cheeks was satisfying, and a grin slid along plum lips, arms tightening all the more on his arm as he drew her away from the house.

She did spare one glance back and over their shoulders, eying his front down thoughtfully before returning her attention to Jude, and where he was taking her. There was also the fact he was trying very hard not to look at her, and that only seemed to amuse her further.

"Frees good, you know I'm always a fan of quality handouts." There were a few things Poe's stubborn pride seemed to pass over altogether, and accepting monetary help or gifts were one of them. Like Jude, Poe had to work damn hard for every nickle that she earned, but she was never against someone offering to pad her wallet for some reason or another.

With a hum she moved to rest her temple against his shoulder. It wasn't so much a bid to fluster him further, as just an affectionate gesture. "Do they have that peppermint hot chocolate still?"

God help poor Jude but it worked -- made his shoulder go all tense under her, his cheeks sore from blushing, his steps gone awkward instead of fluid. It was possible, nay, probable, that he was trying to hold himself more upright, was struggling to seem taller than he was. Nevermind that this was Porsha, and she knew exactly how tall he was.

"Um, I guess. Well, maybe not, but I can make it anyway." He pulled a little face at how that sounded, shaking his head, and fought down the urge to shrug. Shrugging might dislodge her. At least it wasn't going to be a long walk, the cafe close enough to home that they could walk, even in the chill.

On top of Jude being one of her oldest friends and providing near infinite possibilities for entertainment, he was also very warm. It was chilly out, but tucked up against the young man's side as she was, Poe barely felt the n** of cold weather. The never ending rush of color to his cheeks as a result to said closeness was just a bonus.

One of these days she was going to have to see just how much she could make him blush.

"Really?" Silver eyes rolled up to glance at his face, and she smiled at him. "You're kind of amazing." It was his day off, he'd already been busting his a** at home, and he was offering to jump behind the counter to make her favorite winter drink without her even having to ask him. She hadn't even had to turn on the feminine wiles.

"So, happy Christmas is over?" He probably was. Neither teen got much in the way of gifts, and surely the coffee shop had picked up in business. She suspected he was due for a nice break.

Jude really was kind of amazing. One of the best doormats ever invented. He flushed, but his expression went pensive as he thought about that, snuffling just faintly in the cold air.

"...um. Things'll slow down now, I guess...but then school's starting up again too, so I don't know." He shot her a sideways look, and then focused on his feet instead, the slightly-scuffed toes of his shoes. No smiles or bright expressions in reply, but what else was new? Jude wasn't really a big smiler.

"Not crazy for school stuff." He waved that off, arm shifting just slightly in her grasp.

Porsha would never call her friend a doormate. Mostly because she didn't consider him as one. He was very accommodating, there was no denying that, but since she didn't see how he interacted with others outside his family or close friends(the few he had), she never noticed that selfless kindness extended at all. She just didn't know.

"Oh ya, school," she hummed, lips pursing. "I forgot you and Genie still had classes and such to worry about." Poe, having dropped out last semester, no longer had to sweat homework or early wake-up calls. It might not have been a wise choice on her part, but she didn't regret it in the least. Not yet anyways.

He shifted, and her grip on his arm shifted with it, sliding down until she was holding his wrist. Not even thinking about it she slid one hand down so she could slip her fingers between his, squeezing gently.
