Azzo had managed to get the day to spend alone with Grams. His parents had gone out for the rest of the day. So he made the most of the time he had with Grams as he brought her a microwave dinner for lunch, "Sorry, this is the best I could do for something hot." He said with a small frown, as he offered her a lap tray.
"It's fine pup," She said with a nod as she took up the fork to start eating. They were silent for a while before Grams spoke again, "I want to switch the house to your name before someone else tries to take it."
Azzo had been in the middle of getting some macaroni, when he almost dropped his fork, "What?" He looked a little stunned as he watched her. She was serious? "But... why? I mean I wasn't even here when they decided to put you in the retirement home."
"Because you've cared for me this long, and if I'm gone and they sale the house; then where would you go?"
"I could stay at Aurora's until I found myself a place..." He said with a pause, not really sure how open Aurora would be to that, "She has a couch."
"Nonsense, after we finish eating lets go transfer the deed."
Azzo frowned, "I don't really have a job either. I mean I know I'm working at that wrapping place for now but it only lasts for so long before I end up without a job again. I can't have a house without a job; I don't have any way to pay for the bills."
Grams just laughed and shook her head, "I had all that taken care of when you were gone for that week pup." She smiled before continuing to eat.
This wasn't the first time Grams had taken care of things. Azzo frowned; he wondered how she managed to get them by. He knew they weren't completely rich but they weren't bad off either. "What do you mean taken care of?" He eventually asked, curiosity getting the better of him. "I mean neither of us work, how do you manage to keep so much money? Surely it has to be running out..."
Grams paused as she watched her grandson try to rationalize the situation, "You're Grandfather wrote a book that we get the royalties off of. It's not a lot, but it's enough to live comfortably; I've had it switched over to you."
Azzo chewed his food thoughtfully as he sat there watching her, "Grams..."
"Yes Dear?"
"Are you mad at me for not being able to take care of you?"
"Why would I be mad?" Grams looked a little shocked as tried to understand why he was asking such a thing. It was odd, granted no odder than his behavior towards his father when he was yelled at for being gone for the week. "You have a girlfriend and hobbies you like to do, I can't be taking all your time."
Azzo frowned as she answered him, "Iunno..." He eventually said finishing off his lunch and waiting for her to finish as well before taking the things to the kitchen and cleaning them. There was a sigh as he thought; she wanted to go transfer the house? "I'll call a cab."
Grams nodded as she grabbed the crutches beside her chair. She could move around mostly, as long as she used the crutches. "The doctor said sometime next month I could get the cast off." She said as she put on her coat with help, waiting on the cab to arrive.
"That's good." Azzo seemed to have something on his mind the whole time they were gone. Even when he was signing papers and providing information he wasn't completely all there. He was thinking about other things, about why he wasn't able to protect everyone. It wasn't fair really, it shouldn't be this way. Azzo sighed as he worked to get everything needed changed over to his name. "So... is there anything else?" He asked after about the third stop for paper work. "We've been to the register of deeds office, the electric company, the water..." what was left? "So we still have to go to the Cable Company, Gas and phone?" He asked curiously trying to remember all the different places they had bills from.
"Actually the Cable and Phone are with the same company." Grams answered with a chuckle. She seemed in high spirits despite the situation.
"Oh."
"Is something bothering you pup?" Grams was looking at him, her head tilted and a slight worried look on her features.
"Nope, nothing's bothering me." Azzo answered it was a board faced lie, but to keep his grams from suspecting anything he just helped her into the cab so they could go to the next place on their list. By the time they got home it was starting to get dark out and the street lights came on. Azzo shifted slightly as he watched Grams get settled back in her chair. "Should I call for delivery? You've been up and about a lot today."
Grams shook her head, "I'm fine pup, and if you want Delivery so you don't have to cook that's fine. What were you thinking?"
"Pizza?" He asked tilting his head curiously when he received a nod Azzo dialed his favorite place and ordered. "It'll be here in about half an hour." He said with a smile as he sat back down near Grams. However, the smile was short lived as something was nagging at him, somewhere from the depths of his mind. Azzo ran a hand through his hair as he thought carefully about what he was about to do. Grams wasn't going to be living in Destiny much longer... Should I tell her why I really haven't been home most of those nights? I mean... I've been lying to her for a long time...
Azzo frowned and finally stood up. "Grams... I have something I want to tell you." He paused, "It's important so please, don't freak out."
Grams gave her pup a curious glance as he spoke before nodding, "Alright, what is it?"
After a few moments of considering how he wanted to stay this Azzo took a breath, "Grams, you know those so called terrorists? The ones you see in the papers and on the television?" There was a pause, "They're not really terrorists. Not all of them see there's this war going on. The Negaverse is trying to take over the world; and there's this force to fight them, that is here to stop them." He sat on his knees and scooted closer, "This force has Senshi and Knights. Senshi are the magical suit people you see running around causing some property damage."
"What are you getting at?" Grams asked looking at Azzo skeptically.
"Grams," He paused letting himself fade into his uniform. "I'm part of the resistance, I'm a knight. I fight for good." Honey brown eyes were watching her, as she realized that her grandson had actually found her. "I'm sorry I've been lying to you." The squire said as he hung his head almost ashamed of the fact.
"You're..."
There was a nod as Niflhel looked up, "Niflhel, Squire of Saturn. I've been going out most nights to protect the city from evil." He paused; he wouldn't tell her Aurora's identity. "But when I say I'm with Aurora, I really am. I'm not always fighting evil by moonlight." Evil wasn't that common.
"You're a terrorist? But... how is it possible? You just...." Grams stopped still looking bewildered.
"The best way to describe it, I guess, is magic." He answered with a sigh, hoping she'd understand. Slowly shimmering back to his normal self, "I didn't want to lie to you Grams, but I didn't have any choice. I was trying to keep you from getting hurt. Since you're moving... I think its okay to let you know." He admitted as he watched her. Eventually they sat there in silence for a while, and when the pizza came they ate in silence as well.
"I want you... to be careful." Grams said after having considered her words carefully. "If you're fighting a war, you could die in that... I don't want to lose you."
Azzo nodded, "I'll be careful. I have Aurora to help watch out for me while you're gone." He gave a half hearted smile. Hoping Grams understood what he was trying to tell her. After all, there wasn't really an easy way to tell someone that hey you're a "terrorist"; but not really a terrorist.
"Good."
