User ImageSekayi was giggling furiously as he stuffed himself into a small opening in the trunk of a dead tree. Maybe someone carved it, or maybe something nartual caused the dent. Either way, it was working in the small cub's favor.

To past the time, he was playing a cross between tag and hide-and-seek with his sister Hlengiwe. It had been more than simple to sneak away from their mother and cause mayhem in the pride with her.

If their mother had asked anyone of he and his sister's whereabouts, they would have told her that the only thing they saw was a whirlwind of fur flying past. Hearing Hlengiwe's small paws run by him, Sekayi tried to make himself even smaller in order to avoid being caught.

Hlengiwe raced past the trunk of her dead tree, looking for the light color of Sekayi's fur. The pitter patter of her little paws was easy to hear. She wasn't the most graceful or quiet of the family. In fact, she was probably the noisiest in terms of movement. Her face was alight with joy as she searched and searched. After awhile, she came to a halt, her paws skidding on the dirt as she came to the edge of their land. Nope, Sekayi couldn't be here.

She turned back around, this time going more slowly. "I wonder where Sekayi could be? Maybe he is here!" Hlengiwe pushed her nose into a bush to see if he was hiding inside of it. She hopped on the other side and smiled to herself as she looked around. There, in the trunk of a dead tree. She was sure she saw some white fur.

Quickly, Hlengiwe looked around as if she didn't know where he was. "Sekayi sure hid well." Slowly, in random steps with her paws, she made her way closer to the trunk. She wiggled her butt as she readied herself to pounce. Then she launched into the air, landing right by the opening. "Found you!" Hlengiwe rolled over giggling.

It was hard not to laugh in excitement as he heard Hlengiwe nearby searching for him. Instead, he grinned widely and tried to stay still so not to give himself away. He listened as she came closer and closer to where he was hiding. Despite the cub being able to silence himself, when his sister landed right in front of his hiding spot, he burst into a fit of giggles. "You found me!," he exclaimed and emerged from the trunk of the tree.

"Okay, it's your turn now," Sekayi told Hlengiwe, and turned around for a moment to give her a head start. After a moment, he turned back around and began to chase after her, inadvertently running through the legs of an unsuspecting . Their game had no rules, but they both inherently knew how to play it. It mainly consisted of the two cubs running rampant around the land and occasionally hiding from each other. Sekayi had simply ran from his sister until he was far enough so that she couldn't see where he'd hidden.

Hlengiwe burst off, away from her brother as fast as she could. Her laughter bubbling over as she tried to get away. Unfortunately, she was an incredible klutz. Before she could get out of his sight completely, she tripped on the tiniest of rocks. She let out a brief yelp of pain then looked behind her. He was already coming after her. Scrambling to get up, she made a run for it.

The wind felt good going through her fur as she looked for a place to hide. Luck was on her side. She somehow tripped into a hiding spot. It was a scraggly looking bush with a fallen tree over it. The tree provided enough cover for her to hide while still peeking through the bush. Hlengiwe knew that Sekayi was much better than her at this game but it was still really fun. She waited with wide eyes, hoping he wouldn't find her.

Sekayi was hot on Hlengiwe's heels as he tried not to lose her. He kept his sight trained on her and he moved his small legs as fast as he could. When he saw his sister trip he speed up, thinking that maybe he would have a better chance catching her. However, he was only disappointed when she quickly made a break for it, getting away from him anyway. He slowed and came to a halt, pausing for a moment so that he could catch his breath. The young boy searched the horizon for any indication of his sister before continuing on.

Sekayi moved a bit slower across the ground, watching and listening for anything that might give Hlengiwe away. First, he went over to investigate a patch of grass thinking that she might be hiding there. When his search turned up with nothing, he moved on to a tree that he looked behind. Sekayi went on like this for a short while until he simply sat and tried to think of a place where she would hide. He carefully scanned his surroundings once more, sure that she was somewhere nearby. Finally, he just barely caught the sight of a pair of bright eyes looking at his through a bush with a tree over it. There she was! In his excitement at finding her, he ran over to the bush and pounced on it.

"Found you!"

Hlengiwe quickly covered her mouth with both of her paws to keep from giggling. She watched with wide eyes as Sekayi searched for her. He still hadn't found her yet. She blinked and then there he was pouncing on top of her. She burst into laughter as she rolled over onto her back. "You found me!" She got back onto her paws and shook a stray leaf out of her fur. "Your turn Sekayi!"

She tucked her head to the ground and quickly covered her eyes with her paws. Hlengiwe peeked once to make sure that her brother was on the run before covering her eyes again. She laughed to herself. This was so much fun. Too bad her other siblings were not here to play too.

After what Hlengiwe thought was an appropriate amount of time, she gave chase. She could make out Sekayi running and started after him. The other lions in their pride were probably wondering about all the giggling and little furballs flying past them.

Sekayi laughed with his sister as they ran amuck and played with each other. To the disgruntlement of many of the Umzingeli, they were showing no signs of stopping anytime soon. The young boy ran until he found somewhere else to hide. The terrain didn't make for many good hiding places, so he was mostly using his small size to hide behind trees, in bushes, in the grass, and other locations of that nature.

On his turn, he ran into the hollow trunk of a turned over tree. It didn't take him much effort to crawl into that small space and wait for Hlengiwe there. He thought that this was a good place to hide and that his sister would have to work to find him. Unfortunately, he gave himself away when he'd burst into laughter once he saw his sister. As soon as she had come into view, he hadn't been able to hold in his mirth from playing and having fun with her.

The sun slowly moved across the sky as they played into the day and afternoon, hardly showing signs of being tired. They went on this way, looking and behaving much like many of the other cubs in the pride, which was primarily why the lionesses were relatively patient with their rambunctious nature. It didn't make any difference to the two of them however, their only purpose was to have fun and play and revel in being young.

Hlengiwe had so much fun running around with Sekayi. They burst into laughter so much that she would sometimes have to stop running because she couldn't breathe around all that giggling. The day had gone by as they played with each other. She didn't even realize it was afternoon and had loads of energy.

They were lucky to be getting away with all their antics. She was so busy playing that she didn't even realize that she was getting hungry. Eventually, Hlengiwe's tendency to trip on anything caused her to tumble into the dirt. She quickly got up and rubbed her chin with the back of her paw. It hurt, but not that much. It was then that her stomach decided to growl quite loudly. Her eyes widened and she rolled over laughing. "Sekayi, I think my tummy just told us to go back to mommy. I'm getting hungry." She hurried over to him and butted her head against his.

Sekayi laughed as well at the sound of his sister's hungry stomach. Looking up at the sun, Sekayi saw that they would need to go home soon anyway. Besides, he was beginning to feel hungry as well. "Okay, let's go back to mama!" he yelled before running in the direction where he knew their mother would be. Today had been so much fun! He always loved wrecking havoc with his sisters and brothers. Being so young, he never thought about the time that would come when his mane would grow in and he would have to make a choice. Sekayi simply envisioned being with his family forever and the troubles that maturity brought never crossed his mind.

When they reached the den where Njalo and their other siblings were. Somehow, the sight of her always made him feel tired at the end of the day, and at that moment the wanted nothing more than to lay at his mother's side and fall asleep....after he ate of course. Turning back to make sure that Hlengiwe hadn't gotten lost on the way, he smiled and said," We made it back!"

Hlengiwe bounded after Sekayi when he started running back to mommy. She was keeping up in the beginning but her back paw quickly found a rock for her to trip on. Down she went, front legs flailing in the air. Luckily, they had been close to their destination. She quickly pushed herself up and walked over to Sekayi. "We did!" It had been such a fun day for her. She nuzzled her brother affectionately. Tonight she would get a good sleep. She already felt slightly exhausted from all that running around they had done. There was nothing better than spending the day with one of her siblings or with her mommy. Hlengiwe was so glad to have been born to such a great family.
