Near one of the temple walls, Nanu was lying sprawled in a rather undignified pose. The patched lioness was resting after the morning hunt and waiting for Obi – her mate! – to return with his hunting party. She could hardly believe that she’d accepted something as formal and binding as marriage so quickly. It was true that Obi was an old friend of hers but they had barely reached adulthood so a part of her couldn’t help but wonder if they had rushed this decision. But it felt right and Nanu had never been particularly prone to long inner dialogues so it wasn’t long until her mind had returned so simpler thoughts like how pretty the sky was today or how nice the breeze felt on her coat. The young lioness was simply oozing serenity and bliss from every pore.

Tarik had just come in from some meager hunting. It wasn't exactly the best day he'd ever had. Then again, with conditions being what they were in the deserts that were around the oasis; he felt glad to find what he could. He had heard lots of excited mumbling among family members about something about his sister. After drifting to and fro listening to everyone's happiness, he started to wonder if it was only a few things. Well, better than wondering at the whispers, he felt the best thing to do was find his sister. It wouldn't do much good to only go around listening to rumors on the wind of one's own family.

He then was walking towards the open common area when he spotted her. Those back bone like markings on her back. Some of his other sisters had it as well. It was always a symbol that reminded him of their family. He smiled. Then, he strolled up casually to her. "Well, greetings, sister dearest... and how might this winter eve find you? You seem nervous and happy..."

“Tarik…” Nanu replied with an inviting smile, stretching her body to its full extension before rolling into a more proper position. “Nervous…? Maybe I am a little.” Her grin, however, said otherwise. The patched lioness shook the sand off her coat before meeting her brother’s red gaze again.

“What have you been up to? Are you returning from a hunt? I came back just a little while ago.” She had one paw waving playfully in the air in a very cub-like manner and her tail was dancing behind her back. It wouldn’t be a difficult to pick up on her state of mind. “How did it go? My hunting party did alright but one of the older huntresses was a little hurt. I think she’ll be fine though.”

Tarik observed her behavoir, but he said nothing. Really, he wasn't always the most perceptive lion to be sure. He was sometimes a little less on brains, but he made up for it in his ability to do hard work. Still, he sat casually next to his sister. He did start to pick up on some subtle things. She seemed blissfully excited and happy. Would he find a happiness like that? He hoped he would.

He then listened to her brief summary of her hunt. He nodded. "Well, you know with the way the weather had been as of late; it's getting better, but it still is rather harsh during the day. We have much better hunting at night. Of course, the prey that's available at night sometimes leaves a little to be desired." He nodded at her to imply it left quite a bit for his pride to be desiring.

“Ta-riiiik... are we getting old and boring?” Nanu said after one long pause, looking somewhat worried and disappointed before her expression finally allowed a silly grin to form. “Two young lions like us must have better things to talk about besides hunting and… the weather!” the patched lioness chuckled, throwing a playful paw at her brother, her blue eyes meeting Tarik’s red gaze intently.

“So tell me… what have you really been up to? Any new girls in your life?” Romance and such was all Nanu had on her mind as of late so gossiping was one of the most entertaining activities available to the young lioness at the moment. She wasn’t particularly good at keeping secrets – that much had been pointed out to her on several occasions - but that didn’t mean she’d work any less to uncover them. “You look really dashing now with your dark mane fully grown so you must have a few followers already…”

Tarik then glanced down at his sister with a forebearing but loving smirk. "Well.. I am far too busy for that sort of stuff. I have been preparing to step up to being a guardian from just a mere hunter. I plan to be a protector of my people. Silly things like girls... and dating are really just a waste of my time... not to mention.. that I just haven't seem to meet anyone who interests me."

He paused for a moment and added another small line that made him blush with embarrassment. "Well, and then also.. I'm not the brightest lion. I mean, I don't consider myself to be a complete ignoramus, but my strength has never been in the learning arts. I do well with my physical feats... Sometimes that's really not that appealing to girls I suppose... Perhaps you are much more mature than I am in this way."

He then wrapped a paw around her shoulder to give her a brotherly pat and squeeze. "I am super happy for you. Obviously, something is lighting you up."

"Hey now, who are you calling 'silly'? Don't forget you're talking to a girl." Nanu's grin grew wicked in nature but it was clear she didn't feel the least bit offended. "Mmmmm... I bet you're the sort to fall in love at first sight." Oh, she would laugh then, she would.

"But a Guardian, huh...? Well, you gonna get a few stalkers for sure." The patched lioness completely ignored her brother's little jab at her chosen task especially because Tarik called her 'mature' just after. Mature, really? Nanu didn't think anyone had ever called her that before and it made her feel somewhat proud. In a beautiful family moment, a nicer sister might've reminded Tarik that he was more than clever enough as well as strong and nice and handsome. Unfortunately, Nanu was still considerably self-centered so she leaned against her brother in silence with a happy sigh and gladly allowed the topic of the conversation to shift to her.

"I am happy." A great understatement. She hesitated for a brief moment but quickly decided it was alright to tell Tarik the news. "I already told mom and dad and we were keeping it quiet until our request had been approved but... it official now. Obi proposed and I accepted. After we work everything out with the Scribes, my husband and I going to throw a huge party." Her mouth was open in a big grin as she looked up at her brother with bright eyes. "I'm getting married, Tarik!" A part of Nanu still couldn't quite believe her own words.

Tarik at first was listening to her comments. "Heh. Oh yeah.. that's right.. You are a girl.. Hard to remember sometimes..." Then he smirked at her playfully. Then, it fell apart in three seconds into a little laugh as he covered his face with a paw. "Just kidding though... juuuuuust kidding..." He considered the love at first sight thing. "Well.. if that's true at all, then I guess I haven't met her yet. I've crossed paths with a few females, and nothing's struck out at me."

The guardian life. Hearing someone else address him in association with this new rank made him feel proud himself. He really wanted to be a strong and great warrior. Stalkers? "What.. Me? Why would they stalk me? Just because I'm a guardian? Do you mean girl stalkers? or like.. Stalkers who might wanna assassinate me?" He considered that. He had never thought for one moment he'd be in danger. He considered his physical abilities better than being taken so quickly.

Her last comment had his face go blank for a moment or two. Were they really old enough to be getting married? Well, he then figured they must be if she was. He wondered who this Obi guy was again. He hoped it was someone befitting his sister. He felt their family really needed to be sure their bloodline was filled with only the most honorable of males. Seeing her happy face though, he couldn't stay worried very long. "That's great, Nanu. I'm really happy for you. I hope you are blessed with happiness and good fortune. I shall try to make sure whatever duties are done by that time. I'll make it my top priority to be there and help you celebrate the next part of your life." He gently noogie'd the top of her head.

Nanu grabbed a small tuft from her brother’s mane and gave it a slight tug, grinning mischievously. She might not be the most feminine girl in the pride but she was a bride now so that wasn’t something she wanted to be said aloud right in her face.

“Of course I mean girls! You’ll have a bunch of them trailing after you in no time.” Assassinate? Pff! Times were much too peaceful for such talk… and as a protective force welled up inside her, Nanu realized she’d kill anyone who’d try to hurt her family. As one who had never suffered a loss, the young lioness didn’t even want to think about such things – nor did she understand what kind of toll something like that would take on her.

“Thank you, Tarik.” She said more gently, happy with the way he was taking the news. “I think Obi and I will be really happy. And I want to keep you and the rest of our huge family close, too.” She moved away from her brother and gave him a playful glance over her shoulder. “I don’t want to be the first to give mom and dad grandkids… so you guys better start looking for husbands and wives soon.” She chuckled, looking around for any signs of Obi on the horizon.

Tarik blushed and turned his head to the side. He wasn't sure if it'd be easily seen. His fur was a paler shade of cream. Sometimes it depeneded on who was looking. As his sister was so perceptive of him at times, she would probably see it. Maybe she'd find it cute and doting.

He just sighed half relaxed but half sadly. "Well... I mean. It's not like I wouldn't want to have a lady... or kids. I don't think I'd mind a family really. It's just... Most of the females I meet already have someone or a family. Well.. or they are related to me somehow. You managed to get lucky and find someone. I'm not sure if I'll be finding anyone. At least... not soon. Unless the gods were to drop someone in my path."

“Maybe you’re meant to be with someone from outside the pride.” Nanu offered with a grin, trying to imagine the kind of lioness that would suit her brother. “You’ll see. One of these days, a girl will join the pride, fall in love with you at first sight and then you’ll have a bunch of chubby little Guardians running around. Ahah, are you embarrassed?” She chuckled, both at the idea of mini-Tariks and her brother’s expression. She was the one getting married, shouldn’t Nanu be the one feeling nervous right now?

“I’m going to go look for Obi.” She decided aloud and Nanu moved closer to her brother to rub her cheek on his mane. “Keep your eyes open, Tarik…” She grinned wickedly, her tone even more playful than usual before she turned to leave.

Tarik watched her walk off. She hoped the lion she had married was a good one. He hoped she would have many and wonderful children as their own parents had. He also turned to wonder about his other siblings. Had anyone else gotten married? Any having children as well? He wasn't always good about seeing upon all of his family when he would return to town from patrols or hunts.

He also sighed at the idea of him ever finding his mate. Yet, the deeper he looked at himself. He couldn't just say all that blame was to someone else. He was often out in the wildnerness. He loved having promoted to being a guardian. He started as a hunter, but his behaviors in hunts were more of a 'let's make sure everyone is ok'. When he was always sure noone was in danger, he'd work on his kills or assist someone else. He relaxed onto the ground for a few moments. Daydreaming of what it'd be like to return home from patrol and have some lovely lady rushing up to greet him. One who'd be excited he was finally back for her.
