Babby Hydrangea stood outside the floral shop staring in the windows at the rows and rows of flowers and plants. His big orange eyes light up with excitement as he happened to gaze over a bundle of small white flowers that would look perfect next to his budding blue hydrangea flower at home in his room. He had to have those flowers, they were the ones! No others would do! But he couldn't afford them and he was sure he couldn't just walk right in and take them....however would he get them? His little heart sank as did his ears as he lifted one hoof to run it over his bangs in a soothing manner, much like one might suck their thumb or cuddle a blanket.

Honeysuckle was happily making a few arrangements for clients. The winter season was always such a nice time to surprise someone with flowers. Once he was satisfied he decided to water his little babies that were in the front window. His horn began to glow as a watering can floated into the air. He filled it at a tall sink built just for him and then began watering. Ah his lovelies were thirsty! Keeping the shop at a good temperature despite the winter cold tended to dry them out a bit. One particular pot sitting next to his white flowers looked bad. He set down the watering can then approached his flowers. Lowering his head until his nose almost touched them his horn glowed again. The flowers themselves flowed and slowly filled with life. Honey smiled. He couldn't prevent them from dying, they did that even looking lovely, but he could keep them beautiful. As he finished he looked up to see a pair of orange eyes looking in. It was one of the babies, one he hadn't seen before. He smiled and nodded to the boy as if asking if he wanted to come in.

Babby Hyd watched in amazement as the huge unicorn made the wilting flowers come back to life. His round orange eyes glittered and sparkled in awe as his little rump gave a few wiggles. And then he nodded at him, and Hyd almost fell out of his mane. Did that mean he got to come inside? Was that big guy going to give him some flowers? The little white flowers he had his heart set on? Only one way to find out! Rounding his way to the door, Hydrangea gently stuck his nose in and blinked. "H-hi there.... you have so many amazing flowers...." he stared, almost going cross eyed. Now that he was inside he saw so much more. Oooh he wanted that one...and that one...and that one, oh and that bundle over there, and maybe even that one!

Honey watched the little one get ever so excited about coming in. The babby already had it's cutie mark, a lovely hydrangea from the look of it. He smiled, remembering his own bouquet appearing on his brown rump. But the small unicorn colt seemed a little unsure as he entered. Really was he that intimidating? He chuckled and continued watering with his magic as he spoke to the little one.
"Come in little one. Come out of the cold," he walked slowly over. His long black hair flowed like water, he kept it well groomed. His voice was a deep baratone, almost with a purr in it. "Why thank you. I do try. With it being winter I had to move most inside so I could keep them until the spring. Then I can replant them outside in my garden. I am Honeysuckle, what is your name little colt?"

Oh man, his voice was so deep! It made his little chest rumble...and he kind of liked it. A chuckle escaped his maw as he stepped inside, feeling more at ease from the male's welcome words and smile. His mind started to wander, but he shook his head to keep his attention in check. "My name is Hydrangea." he said, watching the other's magic. Some day he'd be able to do that too! "I was...looking at some flowers." he said with a soft nod. "My little hydrangea at home is lonely. Oooh and you have so many...." the little colt was practically in phony heaven. He took a hoof and started smoothing down his short bangs again, something that always kept him calm as he glanced back to the little white ones he had his eyes on.

Honey smiled as the colt told him his name. Another phony named for a flower, and appropriately given his little cutie mark. This must be one of Yawn and Tangle's children given his colors and his name. It would be nice to have another phony around who loved flowers as much as he did, or at least plants.
"Ah a lovely flower Hydrangea. When given to another it stands for thanking someone for understanding. Or vanity," he chuckled, "All flowers have a meaning. My own means generous and devoted affection or sweetness of disposition."
He watched as the boy gazed around at all the flowers, speaking of the plant he was growing being lonely. Ah he agreed, flowers should always have friends around. The more the merrier. He did notice the boy staring at a certain pot of white flowers. It seemed the colt wished to those to keep his plant company but sadly that was not to be.
"If you wish the white flowers I am sorry Hyd. Those are already sold to another customer. They will be picking them up today," he wondered how the colt would react.

Hyd was amazed as how much this unicorn knew about flowers! He would no doubt learn quite a few things from him if he hung around him enough....granted Honeysuckle would permit his company. He giggled a bit at the mention of hydrangea's standing for vanity. It sounded so silly....but little did he know it was also so spot on. But as Honeysuckle went on to explain that his beloved flowers, the ones he had his eyes on all evening were already sold, his heart sank and his ears drooped. "But...but...." he stuttered. They were his flowers! He saw them first....didn't he?! "I want them.... I saw them..." he frowned, his tiny nose wrinkling. That wasn't fair! "Their mine! I need them! Can't you give them something else!?" he whined, stomping a little hoof and staring up at the male. Little tears just about welled up in his big orange eyes. He was too late.....

Honey looked down at the demanding little colt with a soft expression. It took a whole lot to get him riled up but he was also not so easily moved. Perhaps a life lesson was in order here. He had shown his neice now he would show this little one. Perhaps that was his best element.
"They were ordered over the phone and paided online. The customer hasn't seen them yet, merely taking my word that I knew what flower is best. Perhaps if they don't like them you can take them home," he said in his deep rumbling voice. However Honey knew the reason behind wanting the flowers. He wanted Hyd to see why flowers could be so important to others when given, rather than kept for one's self.
A few minutes later said customer came in. It was a boy with his father. Honeysuckle greeted the humans who were in awe of him for a moment before he showed them the flowers he had picked. The boy leaned forward and took a sniff and smiled.
Honey looked at the small human, "Your discription was a bit vague but I was able to come up with these. I hope they are for the purpose you require. Might I ask why these flowers?"
"They are perfect Mr. Honeysuckle. Grandma will be so happy," he slowly touched one of the petals, "She's blind now and grandpa is gone so she's all alone. She and I use to look at pictures of him together, but we can't do that now. But she always remembered the smell of her favorite flowers. There was one pressed in one of her photo books. Grandma says whenever she smells them she see's all the places she's ever been with Grandpa in her head. She didn't need her eyes to do that."
Honey smiled at the boy's explination but side glanced at Hyd. He wanted to see what he would say. He lifted his head to the young colt as if he worked at the shop also, "Hyd, would you like to wrap them so they can take them home?"

Hydrangea eyes were wide. He had never seen a human before, only ponies, and now this boy wanted his flowers? A huge frown appeared at the corner of the colts lips. "But...." he said as his ears flattened against his head. But as he looked into the boy's eyes, he felt something strange. A twinge in his heart. Letting out a sigh, he nodded at Honeysuckle. He could at least do that much. He was no stranger to working with flowers after all.
It took him a while to find the wrappings and even longer to get the flowers and wrap them up because he still wasn't fully willing to give them up. But as he lowered his horn to pick them up with his magic and trotted back over to place them into the boy's hands, it was like something heavy just lifted off his back. A small smile creeped up over his muzzle. "Here....they are a ...." he struggled for a few moments. "A very nice choice. A personal favorite." he nodded shyly.

The small boy's eyes were just as wide at the small unicorn. He thought he looked so cool! He peeked around the corner watching Hyd as he made up the bouquet, his father not admonishing him as it was innocent curiousity. He chuckled and and shook his head good naturedly at Honeysuckle.
Honeysuckle chuckled at the two young ones, they looked a lot alike all of a sudden. He smiled at the father, understanding his meaning. But he nodded as the young one prepared the flowers and handed them to the boy. Hyd was learning a very important message now.
The little boy smiled so big his face hurt as he looked at Hyd. "Gosh thanks little unicorn! All the phonies here must be as nice as you two! Grandma will be so happy!" he beamed and gave Hyd a hug then hugged Honey's leg. Finally he and left with his father.
"That was very generous of you Hyd. You have made more than one person happy by doing that," he smiled at the small one, "Generosity has many rewards, both for the person giving and the the person recieing."

Hyd glanced up at Honeysuckle. "Is that why... I feel happy? Even though I gave up something I really wanted?" he blinked at the bigger male, who he now saw with a whole new light. "I think... I like this feeling." he said softly to himself and nodded, his orange gaze watching the fleeting figures of the humans. There would be other flowers for his little hydrangea at home to befriend. He guessed he really could part with the pretty white flowers."Generosity...." he repeated the word and blinked up at the big male. "Thank you Honeysuckle!" he said with a bright smile.

"Yes, that is the wonderful feeling you get when you are generous. And flowers are something that should always be shared. So I see a great deal of generosity in our future," he smiled at the small one. The colt had learned one of the important lessons of growing up and he was glad he helped.
"You are welcome Hyd. Now why don't you help me clean up around the shop. Some of the lower windows need to be washed so the sun can reach the plants," he showed Hyd some of the things he did to keep his plants healthy by taking care of his own shop.

Hydrangea was happy, and he smiled brightly. "I'd love to help!" he nodded his head as he was shown how the older unicorn took care of his shop, picking up a few tricks for himself as well. He had learned a very important thing today. Generosity. And that flowers were something everyone should enjoy! He would definitively remember this for the rest of his days.
