Grant Caudwell owned three rabbits, each one a different breed (though what they were he had no idea) and each one had a different personality and story of how he had come to own them. If he were honest, he had never set out to bring home rabbits, but some how he had ended up a magnet for them. Or maybe people saw him for what he was, a dope that was easy to take advantage of with a sob story, and unloaded their unwanted rabbits onto him that way. Either way, it was the rabbits that benefited. They had an owner now who loved them.
And took very good care of them.
The first rabbit he got was Stink. He was an older rabbit, but very sweet. He acted almost like a cat, and loved to be near Grant, sitting on his lap quietly. Rabbits did everything quietly. Except when they got scared, and they would thump their back feet hard against the floor to make noise. Stink was so named because his owner beforehand had been calling him that, and by the time Grant got him he felt it would be too confusing to start calling him something else.
Grant did not think Stink was particularly smelly.
The second rabbit to come to his home had been a very small baby and was the youngest of the three. It was a bit more skittish than Stink, and its name was Rabbit. Again, that was what it had seemed to be named before Grant got it, but more than that it seemed to respond to it. Grant did not yet know what gender it was. It lived in the Rabbit room, where Grant had set up a nice little living area for them when they weren’t out around the rest of the place. Rabbit spent most of its time in the room, too timid to explore like Stink.
The third rabbit was a girl, and her name was Fluffers. This one Grant had been able to name himself, and it was probably the worst name of the three, but Grant did not think so. He loved Fluffers, but she was skittish from a bad home before he got her, and he had to keep her in a large hutch in the Rabbit Room. He let her out into a pen every day, and she was slowly, very slowly, warming up to him.
He was feeding them now, fresh food and a vitamin supplement to keep them healthy and their fur shining. Stink hopped around at his feet, while Fluffers hid in her pen and timidly came out when he put the new food in her bowl. He didn’t know where Rabbit was hiding right now, but it would come out for food in due time. He smiled. It was a simple moment that happened daily, but he enjoyed it each time. He loved his pets, and he wanted to take care of them for as long as they needed him, and give them happy, full lives.
