A friend of mine wants to give me an AR - I don't know if I will take it. If I take it I would use it to battle high level Pokemon to level up faster. Would that be considered hacking a legally obtained Pokemon if I just use it to level them up faster without modifying the Pokemon itself? If so I will pass the offer and do it the slower way.

No. Hacking is if you build pokemon from scratch. There is no way the game can tell if you used an AR to speed level.

Well I might take up her offer I don't like hacked pokemon in a saved box because it messes up the game like that but just leveling them up should not hurt the data. If any one else wants to weigh in on the discussion please do.

if you hack the items, such as rare candy, drugs, and tms, i don't wouldn't consider it cheating

From what I know of, the only real problem with speed leveling with an AR is - you won't get all the EVs from battles because you will be in fewer battles than that of a level 100 that was raised without an AR.

even if the the ev person has said that it'd done with the effort? the ones that says the pokemon worked hard rather then it still needs work?

Eh...I don't know much about Evs and Iv stuff. I just know that when I battled my friends with my level 100s (all speed leveled to 100) I could definitely tell a difference in power from theirs. (Theirs were all raised from when they got them, to 100 through non-hacked battles.)

The use of hacking devices is frowned upon around these parts and officially we stand firmly against the use for means, no matter the reasoning.. although if the Pokemon is caught/breed legitimately and EV trained before hand (legitimately as well), then speed leveling via rare candies or by hacking high level Pokemon into the game for battles would be very difficult to tell, if not completely undetectable by even the best forms of legitimacy checkers.

Slow and steady wins the race. I just wish the had the vs seeker in this game. So's I pass. (on the AR) now I need to get blacl because tradede ones do grow faster legit..

I'm not sure about this but I was EV training a Mespirit and before it leveled up the EV it earned was automatically added without having to wait to level up in order for the EVs to be added. I haven't tried it on a level 100, rare candy to 100 without EV training or downgrade stats with berries on a level 100 then EV train it, and if these are correct then it probably won't matter on getting a level 100 Pokemon from a trade, if it got good IVs and right natures.

If the Pokemon is placed into the PC Box, it's stats are refreshed and thus if it had been EV trained, the trained stats will be refreshed to express the training. In Gen 4, level 100 Pokemon could no be EV trained, though I believe that limitation has been removed in Gen 5, though as I haven't tried it personally, I cannot verify that 100%.
