Before was on time? Before was on time! Holy s**t, Before was actually on time!!! The Lifer trainee was determined not to ******** up this time! Well... not ******** up as badly as he normally did. Still, it was no guarantee he'd be able to succeed on this mission. Come to think of it, he was having second doubts about having applied in the first place. But the effects of JOY number 5 had done quite a number on Before's doubts and now the brunette was paying the consequences.
But were they really consequences? Worst case scenario: He ******** up royally and needs to make up with another mission. Best case scenario: He actually does decently. :> Maybe it was the JOY doing the talking but when Before arrived at the Princess Tower, he puffed up his chest, threw his hands into the air and declared: "I'M READY!!!!" 8333333

"Well, I'm glad to hear that," Clarice replied as she approached him, a clip board in one hand and a small smile on her face. It was good to see him so excited for the next big step, even if the destination wasn't exactly what he'd planned on. "You've done really well in the labs, Before. Despite a few...incidents, you've exceeded expectations." The smile grew a touch wry, "But it's important to be versatile too, so in order to receive your promotion, I'd like to see you complete the Tower." It seemed a good way to kind of...ease him into the switch, and would go a long way toward reassuring her that they weren't throwing the poor trainee into something he couldn't handle. Extra For this course, Before will be using the mist trainee bonus set! Mist Hunter The Miss Taken Tower General Information As the general, jack-of-all trades division, the Mist Hunter training course is a combination of the other divisions' training challenges and also one of the more complicated. The goal of this course is to rescue the princess in the tower. Below her, you'll find yourself confronted with a number of shadowling attackers, and beyond them, a room of only slightly deadly traps. But even should you reach her location, you still need to pick the lock on the manacles holding her in place. Unskilled fiddling with the locks will prove unhealthy for both the princess and yourself. And once that's done, you need to make your way back down through the traps and shadowlings, defending the princess the whole way.
The Miss Taken Tower is one of the most challenging and frustrating courses available.
If you fail: your princess dies, and you are quite possibly KO'd. Senior hunters are observing and will make with a timely rescue as needed.
If you win: the princess will adore you for the rest of her exceedingly brief existence. Peen points for 100% health for you and the Princess, shadowlings fought, going for consecutive rescues.
Part 1 Mechanics - roll your regular attack - roll your regular attack again - if you miss an attack, you lose 50% of your full HP - if you have an available recovery bonus, you may try to use that to avoid HP loss
Bonus Mechanics - This bonus is consumable. - for the Mist Course, it is recommended you review the mechanics of the other division courses, as the division bonuses carry over.
- Trainees: 0 recoveries - Mist/Sun Trainees: 1 recovery - Hunters: 1 recovery - Mist/Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries
Part 2 Mechanics - there are two steps worth of traps in this room, so you'll be rolling twice
- roll 1 d10 to determine what your character is about to step into - use your bonus mechanic to adjust as you can - adjust your HP and bonus count accordingly - roll 1 d10 to determine what your character is about to step into - use your bonus mechanic to adjust as you can - adjust your HP and bonus count accordingly - roll list: (feel free to get creative about what the traps actually were) (-50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd)
01. horrible death 02. - 50% HP 03. - 50% HP 04. live 05. live 06. - 50% HP 07. horrible death 08. - 50% HP 09. horrible death 10. live
Bonus Mechanics - This bonus is consumable.
- Trainees: 1 flag - Mist/Death Trainees: 1 flag and one instinctive move - Hunters: 1 flag and one instinctive move - Mist/Death Hunters: 1 flag and two instinctive moves
Part 3 Mechanics - use the given roll for your hunter to try and open the lock on her right manacle. Rolling a 1 means you fumbled, and the cuff exploded causing both you and the princess to lose 50% of your full HP. - roll to repeat the process on the left manacle.
Bonus Mechanics
- Trainees: roll 1d4 - Mist/Life Trainees: roll 1d6 - Hunters: roll 1d6 - Mist/Life Hunters: roll 1d8
Part 4 Mechanics - roll 2 d8 to determine your defense against the trap area. - roll 2 d8 to determine how much trap damage targets the princess. - adjust her HP accordingly - roll 2 d8 to determine your defense against the shadowling area. - roll 2 d8 to determine how much shadow damage targets the princess. - adjust her HP accordingly - leftover defense does not stack
Bonus Mechanics
- Trainees: +0 defense - Mist/Moon Trainees: + 2 defense - Hunters: + 2 defense - Mist/Moon Hunters: + 3 defense

Before felt himself swell with pride. It was one of those rare times where he was being praised! By someone that wasn't on his parent's payroll, even! His smile widened and his eyes seemed to twinkle in excite as he began to psyche himself up for his mission. Versitlity? Okay, he got that, just because he was a Lifer didn't mean he should always lock himself away in the labs. Like his experience with those snow sculptures, it was best to be prepared!
He turned towards the tower, nodded to the Life Hunter, and wondered whose form the golem princess was going to take. Part of him hoped it was Tika. Another part of him hoped it was Candace just so he could prove to her he wasn't completely useless. Then again, if it was a Candace golem, it was sadly just a golem :< Her praise and acknowledgement wouldn't count.
He brushed a gloved hand over the bottlecap-pin on his Life Trainee coat, asking Vanna for her help and guidance since he didn't think he was allowed to summon his weapon. He gave Clarice one last nod and broke into a run. He was going to do his best, his very best like no one ever was!!!! Unaware that the end result may not be what he was aiming for.

The moment he stepped into the tower, he instinctively summoned his partner. He didn't mean to but it was second nature to him at this point. As easy and natural as it was to blink. If he had tackled the tower several months ago, Before was sure he would have frozen in place, completely unable to do little else but take the blows the shadowlings were throwing at him.
He swung and struck and ducked and dove, managing to lose them without coming to any harm. Or at least that was how the first wave of shadowlings went...Status Stage: 1Before HP: 40 Princess HP: 20 Stage 1 Recoveries: 0/1 Stage 2 Flags and Instincts: 0/1 F; 0/1 I Stage 4 Bonus Defense: +0/2

There were more of them this time, and when the Life trainee began to feel like he was being overwhelmed, his partner's scream to STAY FOCUSED, SILLY BEFORE!!! kept him grounded. He was grateful for all those spars his fellow trainees had either forced, coerced, tricked, or simply asked him into. It made it not quite easier but definitely helped with the second wave. When he spotted an opening in the onslaught, he wasted no time bolting and throwing himself into a slide, suddenly wishing he had pants on instead of shorts. Fuuuuuu- his skin was going to be raw but other than that, Before was A-OK. Scrambling to his feet, he slammed the door shut to keep the shadowlings out.Status Stage: 1Before HP: 40 Princess HP: 20 Stage 1 Recoveries: 0/1 used Stage 2 Flags and Instincts: 0/1 F; 0/1 I used Stage 4 Bonus Defense: +0/2 used

The Lifer took a moment to catch his breath while dusting himself off. There was something almost reminiscent about that time he and his fellow former-Betas went into the strange house where they had to go and catch those freaks. You know, back when Boss was still Boss and let him call her that. Instead of treating him like he wasn't who he was... As much as he pretended otherwise, his girl issues distracted him. He liked Boss, he wanted to still be friends with her and follow her orders and- did the tile he just stepped on shift? DUCK!!!! He heard his partner a little too late as he felt a hatchet suddenly slice at him. The dull edge bruised him painfully, but that wasn't the end of it! The trap threw another hatchet at him, and despite the pain he threw himself down. He felt rather than heard the blade cut through his ponytail and he simply lay on the ground, listening to his heart hammering in his chest while he made sure no more hatchets were being thrown at him. Oh, silly Before, your hair... Vanna sounded mournful. "Think there's a barber on the island?" he asked aloud, eyes still wide in shock DDDDD8 It was some time before he braved the rest of the traps.Status Stage: 2Before HP: 20 Princess HP: 20 Stage 1 Recoveries: 0/1 used Stage 2 Flags and Instincts: 0/1 F; 0/1 I used Stage 4 Bonus Defense: +0/2 used

Before, more cautious this time, was about to lean against the wall when a spider suddenly skittered past, making his yelp in surprise and tripping all over his own two feet. Don't worry! His face broke his fall and apparently kept him from activating another trap! The trek up the stairs seemed to be the most grueling portion of this mission and took most of his time. "Princess! I -*pant*- am here to *wheeze* save y-DOCTOR H!?!?!" DDDDDDDDDDDDD8?!!?!?!? Indeed it was the Life Division Leader. Or rather, the golem had taken his form with frightening accuracy, right down to the hood. The only glaringly obvious indication it was the golem was the sweet giggling and the pointy hat resting atop H's head. Before suddenly didn't want to do this anymore 8CCCCCC But Princess H giggled and canted his head, and Before could only assume the golem was batting his eyes behind that hood. Slowly, carefully, he began to undo the manacle on his right hand. When the cuff came off, Before was startled it hadn't exploded! Huh, pendant watch duty seemed to have paid off!Status Stage: 3Before HP: 20 Princess HP: 20 Stage 1 Recoveries: 0/1 used Stage 2 Flags and Instincts: 0/1 F; 1/1 I used (moved 3 to 4 to live) Stage 4 Bonus Defense: +0/2 used

With his right arm freed, Princess H cheered and reached into his coat to pull out... a flask. He took a swig of whatever it was inside and absently remarked how he'd seen a blind, three-legged ferret undo the manacles faster. But hey, keep trying. Which Before did.
Which Before suceeded! And wanting to get this over and done with as fast as possible, he grabbed the golem by the coat and began dragging him down the stairs. No, Before was never going to grab H's hand. Not even in golem form. There was something inherently disconcerting about hearing H giggling that made Before hurry down 8<<<<<Status Stage: 3Before HP: 20 Princess HP: 10 Stage 1 Recoveries: 0/1 used Stage 2 Flags and Instincts: 0/1 F; 1/1 I used (moved 3 to 4 to live) Stage 4 Bonus Defense: +0/2 used

When Before and Princess H arrived at the trap area, Before summoned Vanna again. He gave strict instructions to the golem to stay behind him at all times. Which, naturally, the golem ignored because cheap imitation or no, this was Princess H and he did as he ******** wanted at the expense of his trainees!Status Stage: 4Before HP: 20 Princess HP: 20 Stage 1 Recoveries: 0/1 used Stage 2 Flags and Instincts: 0/1 F; 1/1 I used (moved 3 to 4 to live) Stage 4 Bonus HP: +2/2 used

As the golem proceeded to stroll through the floor of hidden traps, Before had to dive headfirst, or swing Vanna to ward away the numerous projectiles the traps were activating. The worst though, had to be the ******** "PIE TO THE FACE!??! WHAT IS? WHO DOES!? Oh wait it's banana cream pie, never mind, IT'S ALL GOOD! Whoever made this, you are a baking GENIUS!" he declared, giving the unseen, observing hunters a thumbs up X9 Then he shoved Princess H out of the trap room.Status Stage: 4Before HP: 20 Princess HP: 20 Stage 1 Recoveries: 0/1 used Stage 2 Flags and Instincts: 0/1 F; 1/1 I used (moved 3 to 4 to live) Stage 4 Bonus Defense: +2/2 used

Wiping the last of the pie off his face (and then licking the remnants off his fingers) Before once again tried to reason with the golem to stick close. "How am I supposed to protect you if you keep wandering off?" he asked with a sigh, trying to pout but failing to maintain it for long because of the vestiges of JOY Number 5 still lingering in his system. Princess H just tittered, gave Before a pat on the head, and promised the trainee that he'll never make it in Life. It struck a nerve, even if Before heard it spoken with a small L. Still, Before begged to differ as he eyed the incoming wave of shadowlings :/Status Stage: 4Before HP: 20 Princess HP: 20 Stage 1 Recoveries: 0/1 used Stage 2 Flags and Instincts: 0/1 F; 1/1 I used (moved 3 to 4 to live) Stage 4 Bonus Defense: +2/2 used

Maybe it was the uncomfortable sensation of hearing Princess H's cheerful giggles, maybe it was the fact he was managing to successfully fend off the shadowlings, maybe it was just the fact that he was still standing after all this time. Whatever it was, Before knew something was terribly wrong. With one forceful spin, Before managed to send the last of the shadowlings clinging to him back into the rest. It felt very satisfying to see them dissolve as they exploded and when he glanced over his shoulder to see where the golem had gotten to, he saw Princess H stride out the tower while taking several long swigs of his flask.Status Stage: 4Before HP: 20 Princess HP: 20 Stage 1 Recoveries: 0/1 used Stage 2 Flags and Instincts: 0/1 F; 1/1 I used (moved 3 to 4 to live) Stage 4 Bonus Defense: +2/2 used

Before emerged from the tower a few steps behind Princess H. Now that he'd rescued him, Before didn't care what happened to the golem. He was far more interested in desummoning his partner back into her bottlecap-pin form and running up to Clarice to declare with the utmost enthusiasm and excitement, "I did it! I really did it"! 8DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD D-did this mean he actually passed?! Him? Before? Sure it wasn't for a Life Division exclusive task but stiiiiiiiiiiill!!!! Any success for the teal-eyed young man was a big ******** deal and and and he was just so happy he could burst! And this time, JOY Number 5 had nothing to do with it!
