Physical Appearance:
Physical Appearance: Briony is of average height and stature, with thin wrists and thicker ankles. Freckles spot across her upper arms and face, but she is relatively smooth-skinned elsewhere. Like all native Sunderlanders, she is fair and burns easily under the sun, but the years of working with the jeweller's forge has wrought her hands, arms, and face a darker brown than the rest of her.

Her face is angular, with a slight underbite, a long, upturned nose, and hooded, heavy-set eyes of a light olive green that often look bluer as the firelight hits them. Briony's hair is naturally wavy and a toasted straw-blonde colour that carries through her family, but she often forgets to take care of it as her mother taught her, so it tends to tangle and fall limp, resembling what some might call “matted wheat.”

She carries in her gait someone who has been classically trained to sit straight, walk daintily and lightly, and curtsy well, but it is tainted with her slight bend in her left knee, which leaves her limping at times and in need of a rest. She has lost much of her straight, refined back working in her smithy over the past three years, bending forwards and backwards to work with the metal.

Clothing: When she lived with her family, Briony was prone to wear refined, frilly gowns as is often seen in the merchant nobility. Having left her family for over three years, she now is seen in more practical dress, though one cannot call it practical. If she is working in the smithy, she wears a heavy-set smith's apron, scorched and burned by flame, and usually a cloth dress of varying colours, whether beige or brown. On weekly trips, Briony will wear a more savoury blue or dull red gown under a silken petticoat, with a fair amount of pleats and baubles. She has learned her lesson, though, not to wear any amounts of family jewellery after being accosted in the Western side of Palisades. Instead, she adorns herself with her wares, which are admittedly far less superior in quality.

Briony has taken to wearing a headband, usually patterned with oriental silk, to keep her hair out of her face as she works. At times she forgets herself, but her mother's words about proper ladies are still ingrained within her, so she usually removes such flagrant accessories and dons a more appropriate bun for leaving the workshop.

Personality:
Synopsis: Impulsive, stubborn, creative, naïve, spoiled, rambunctious, out-going.
Briony, despite being 22, and what most would consider of marriageable age, still acts as though she was in her flamboyant teenage years. Having been a recalcitrant and stubborn child, she was not made any more malleable by living by herself with no one but Papa Georgee to look after her. Indeed, she retains a stubborn sense of pride in running away from her family, and is determined to make her own way in the world without “family help,” even if her jewellery stand is frequented by patrons sent by her parents (not that Briony would ever acknowledge this).

This is not to say she is a poor jeweller, but artisans in this day and age do not nearly receive as much patronage as she does, especially in the Western district of the Palisades as she has placed her shop. She is also treated with more respect than a jeweller normally would – but not always. As she works more and more with the forge, Briony forgets her elite roots and is regarded more often as a working woman, which is often met with strange looks and second glances in the street.

Despite her bull-like stubbornness, Briony is a relatively joyful soul who likes socializing and gossiping as much as the next courtier girl, and is equally fond of frivolous expenses that have no place in practical work. Indeed, she spends much of her time in the smith talking with her patrons, finding their specific likes and dislikes, and is quite sympathetic with their plights. She often comes off as patronizing to the working class, since she feels that she is now a working woman and independent in her own right, but cannot help herself in her more refined and perhaps elitist behaviours.

Briony is not wont to forget a favour or a birthday, and will always have time to bring presents to her friends. However, this same characteristic often turns out to feed into her naivety, as she expects the same treatment in return; such is not the case, especially in the unsavoury corners of the Western Palisades where her shop lies. Numerous times has she been accosted for favours, never returned, but she rarely realises this – her parents and uncle have too long fostered her care as a doted-upon daughter, and not enough like the merchant’s wife she is likely to be.
