For the reasons that were listed on this website, I have launched a protest against the Salvation Army. I do not wish to change what the believe about homosexuality. I merely wish that they stop actively discriminating people because of those beliefs, and to stop using the money that they have so often used to help others to lobby for anti gay legislation.

A few years ago, a movement started that involved shoving what were called "Queer Dollars" in their buckets. I applaud this effort, but find it to mean spirited. The goal is not to insult them in anyway, merely express dissatisfaction with their policies.

Our protest involves writing letters and notes, and shoving them in the Kettles explaining why they will no longer receive our donations.

The Salvation Army itself has been on TV promoting it's charitable activities, claiming that donations are down up to 20% this year. Tragedy is, all charities are. Toys for Tots is down 80%. I would love to have seen Toys for Tots go up, and Salvation Army go down. So this is not about denying charity, this is about not giving to charities if our money might be used for anti gay lobbying, or our donations withheld from the needy based on sexual orientation. There are plenty of wonderful charities to give to instead.

It is my hope that they see that people are not going to give to charity like theirs unless their is real change in the way they do things.I want them to change, not go away.

Yeah I hope they can change their policies too. sad Maybe they need so of us liberal/progressive Christians joining their ranks to get the ball rolling.

I used to do volunteer work at the local salvation army store, then I found out some of the policys and just stopped going there. Sometimes I still go in to buy items, but the prices that the local one is starting to sell things at I am better off going to walmart.
