This is a RP between Lestari [Tasinei] and Miàoyīn [White Oblivion] Please do not post.

Setting:
Parents often expect their children to attend social gatherings and uphold the good family name for one reason or the other. Some people are more or less reluctant about it than others.

People are strange and bizarre creatures; one would think they are crazy, trying to force upon themselves behaviors that aren't truly natural, abnormal to their original state of being. Others would disagree, of course, claiming that such a thing was only to be expected, that it was but the natural will for betterment and evolution that caused people to invent such strict rules to be followed. Rules are there to help people, not restrict them; after all, without rules there would be chaos and chaos does little but bring disaster wherever it might appear. At first, the freedom it offers might sound elusively tempting, but eventually it becomes the downfall of those who dare question the way things have been brought to work after so many years.

Chen Miàoyīn was a supporter of the latter belief. Things are as they are for a certain reason -and if he could set an example for others to follow he'd gladly do it anyday. He had been brought up more strictly than most children his age if he could recall correctly, but not once did he complain or felt the need to, really. He had come to understand from early on that it was all for his own good and his own betterment. What greater joy was there, after all, than being able to humbly serve, to bring honour to one's family? Of course, there would be times -such as that very evening- where things weren't really just as he would have liked them to be in order for such a thing to happen. Social happenings weren't really Miào's thing, considering he had grown to relish in his solitude and trust people less than he probably should, even if he still attended them at his parents' side with a perfectly calm, straight face that concealed his disdain.

People were tiresome, he thought. They tended to never agree and they ended up clashing in discord, creating a cacophony when left on their own, calling for a supervisor to put them back in line. Sadly, it was not Miào's place to be that supervisor, at the very least not yet; he lacked the experience and it was simply disrespectful to his superiors to even attempt such a thing without direct permission to do so. Currently, his mother and father had been conversing with some friends about a matter that Miào himself couldn't be bothered with -the marriage of some co-worker of theirs. It was too early for him to marry, after all, and he had so many things to do. So, deeming it safe he got on his feet and bowing politely, mentioning he would like to be briefly excused for a little while he walked a small distance from them before taking a deep breath and exhaling in an attempt to regain his composure. It was times like these that he hoped he could bring Yúhuá with him in such occasions, but alas, such a thing was not possible.

“Lestari, if you do not come down this instant, I will go up there myself and drag you down by the fins I bestowed upon you at birth!”

There was no way around it, she was already dressed, already all bundled up in a god forsaken outfit, she might as well get on with this ordeal. The reflection in the mirror told of the pain of going to these parties, if her mother found her a husband before she was out of the academy than she would not be allowed to become a captain. Her mother had prattled on and on about how they had found someone for her, some Hasiym, there was no fussing about it anymore. It was time you started your duties to this family, the words her mother used cut deeply, but she hide the scars well.

Lestari sighed deeply swinging one of the loose fabrics, her muscles would just not allow her to get up. Even as the stairs began to creak from someones weight as they climbed, she did not move, could not. It was not her mothers angry face caked with makeup that appeared, but her father’s gentle one. Les was his only daughter, and he was about to meet the man taking her away from her, he didn’t seem to agree with Sinta’s choice of husband either. He stayed by the door and watched her quietly, waiting, knowing no words could comfort her, for he was the only one who knew of her ambitions. When Lestari was finally ready, she got up, walked over to her father who extended his hand to grab her own, and made her way downstairs.

The voyage was too long, Sintas didn’t lose a breath reprimanding Lestari on her actions. Once at the party, Les almost ran into the party headlong. Introductions were made, Hasiym hadn't arrived yet, so the blue haired Lunarian found a corner to sit in and watch the others. No one bothered her, not with the look she gave them whenever someone tried to approach her for small talk. She wanted it known she was not happy, even if that meant scaring everyone away. Couldn’t they just let her be?

Miàoyīn made a beeline for a less crowded corner, where it was probably unlikely that a lot would disturb and proceeded to lean against the wall, trying to pretend he was merely but part of the decoration; nothing more than a fancy wallpaper. Fancy still, but not as important as the party in any case. He took in a deep breath, calming himself, ruby eyes -that probably stemmed somewhere from his mother's genes, as the relatives he knew of on his father's side were most either blue or golden-eyed- closed to shut out the existence of the noisy crowd that came and went. Then he opened them again and remained to stare into space, watching the men interact while their wives gossiped and the younger ones mingle and talk about all sorts of things. Events of this sort always followed a pattern, one he had learned to recognize since his father and mother had started to bring him to them when he became old enough to attend.

There were many he could easily identify wandering about. Some of the people he knew from training sessions, some that were his father's and mother's friends. A younger recently married couple in whose wedding he got dragged along the other day, the trader from which they always got his grandmother's herbs to make her medicine... People of every age that were categorized neatly in his thoughts... And among them a less familiar, azure-headed Lunarian that looked the most displeased if anything else. From the way she sat in her corner to the death glares she would shoot to anyone trying to go near her, one needn't need to be a genius to comprehend that she was simply dying to get out of there. As much as he could relate, it was a sad fact. To him those parties were nothing but a bore, but other than that he at least tried to appear pleasant to others.

Only halfway curious as to why someone would be as distressed in such a gathering and halfway seeking a way to kill some time he took a step forward, pondering how wise his decision to confront that girl was. She didn't appear to want to be bothered, after all; but he took a deep breath and spoke first, before she had a chance to shoot him down just yet "Good evening..." however that didn't seem quite right and he paused, uncertain as to how to follow up with his greeting. "I sincerely hope this spot isn't taken..." he nodded over at the blank space a little further to the Lunarian's left. "You seem to be doing a good job with fending onlookers off, so I'd suppose no?" he speculated, cracking the faintest idea of a lop-sided smile as he moved a little in that direction, awaiting a confirmation before sitting down anyway, out of respect.

Lestari was fine with just sitting in a corner sulking by herself, she wasn`t exactly in the most chit chat of moods, but wouldn`t have objected too badly if anyone had come to speak to her. If anything, her mother would only get more unpleasant with her if she didn`t interact with someone. So when the red eyed Lunarian stepped up to her, even talking to her before Les could open her mouth, she stared at him a little dumbfounded. For a split second, she truly thought she`d tell him the seat was taken and to go find another one. Sinta came into view however, glancing at her daughter over the shoulder of one of her friends to keep an eye on her daughter. Sinta was watching, wanting to know if Lestari was about to tell off another suitor.

Purple eyes slid back to the guy in front of her, Les offered him a smile and mentioned towards the empty space with her head. "Its free, take a seat." Satisfied for the time being, Sinta went back to her conversation with the other mothers. Maybe if she kept this one around long enough she wouldn't be bothered by anyone else in the room, including her mother. Shifting her position sso she could properly speak to him, Les settled and watched him quietly for a few seconds debating what exactly she was suppose to say. He`d obviously been watching her long enough to see her shooing away everyone else, a name would be a good start. "Im Lestari."
