Hello!
I'm 27 years of age and I have experience with a variety of animals, some wonderful and some not so wonderful.
I'm a self-taught groomer of my own animals (only because I understand their temperament). I have a one year old Lhasa Apso in full coat. I also have a 9 year old cat (forever a kitten) and another cat who is 3 years old.
I volunteer at my county animal shelter and help to foster kittens as well as dogs.
Random: I'd like to learn more about showing dogs. I don't think I'm interested in doing it, but I do find it interesting. I don't support animal testing, at all. I'm against backyard breeding. I have a soft spot for long-haired breeds. I've always wanted a maine coon.
I just wanted to say hello and hope to speak with all of you soon. : ]

Latrans Why are you against all animal testing? In my personal experience, I've heard too many horror stories when it comes to animal testing, at least for most human intended products.
I worked in the beauty industry for many years and have both seen and heard awful things in relation to chemicals being tested on animals. I've done a lot of research and spoken with chemists in direct relation with the makings of shampoos and various hair products. I just haven't heard many hopeful stories, I guess and some discussions have just been alarming.
In general, my answer is "Not a fan" in relation to animal testing. I'm sure positives have come from it, but it's a personal choice and a sick feeling I get when I think about it that turns me off of it.

We're not a cosmetics testing facility, though. I work at a university.

I'm sure there's a fine line between caring about the animals and testing them than believing their soul-less creatures without the ability to feel pain or neglect and testing them.
I don't make accusations or have any dislike for people who work in that industry, I just hope they have some morals at the end of the day. : ]
Thank you for asking my reason why. I appreciate your curiosity and thank you for not judging me on my feelings.

Thank you for asking my reason why. I appreciate your curiosity and thank you for not judging me on my feelings. Well, everything is soulless. ;] I work with fish, and the ones I work with actually live in the wild. I just process pictures, most of the time, and occasionally do dissections. As for morals, there's pretty strict codes of conduct and animal care that we're held to, and there are inspections regularly. I can assure you that we don't mistreat our animals. You can't get accurate measurements from sick fish!

Mini and Ellie are adorable. : ] I always thought being a vet would be interesting, but I couldn't see animals suffer. I'd spend more time being sad than helpful, I think.
