Ding!
Candice looked around the library as the door to the elevator was opening. Most of the areas were dark where the automatic lights had turned off. The places that did have light were those places where some other overly-studious students were studying. She always thought that she was studying too much, but those people... She didn't know how to classify them.
Inside the elevator, she pressed the button for the ground floor and waited for it to go down. Candice, at this point, was kind of groggy and well, filled to the absolute most with information. As she stood there, she knew that her body was half doing everything on their own; she had spent so many nights here that her body knew where to go. If she just stayed alone, there would be no problem for her getting home at that state.
She continued to walk down the path that would eventually lead her home. Her steps were slow and lazy, but it was odd that her mentality said nothing but 'home'. "I'll get there... no matter how it takes," she mumbled under her breath.
Candice covered her mouth as she yawned. She almost lost her footing, but quickly caught herself by leaning against a wall. "I think I should eventually stop doing this... Or at least attempt to go home a little bit earlier..."

Out ahead of her, a man stepped out in a uniform. Magnetite leaned against the wall, for a moment, watching her approach.
Time to get to work.
He pushed himself off the wall and walked toward her.
"Excuse me ma'am, I think Im lost. Do you know the way to 42nd street from here?"
He motioned to his uniform.
"I just got back from... well, I just want to get to my family, and I can’t seem to figure out which way I'm going..."

Candice took a step back as the odd man stepped in front of her. She was so tired that she was in a daze like state and didn't really notice that the blonde man in front of her was dressed... kind of odd. When he asked the question, she brought her left arm up to her forehead, trying to concentrate on where she was and where the man wanted to go. In her right hand, she carried her precious medical books.
As she was concentrating, she looked firmly into space, concentrating as hard as she could at the moment and trying to figure out the directions. Eventually, she came up with the directions. She knew them, but when the words came out of her mouth, her voice trailed
"First head that way..." Candice pointed in a direction. "Then walk until you hit.... then turn left. Walk again until you hit... then you should be there!" As she let out another yawn, she covered her mouth. "Sorry... Did you get all of that?"

Magnetite was little disappointed. He didn't know if tiredness affected the amount of energy he could get out of her but if it did there'd be hardly any energy to get out of her. Still, he was committed now.
"Are you all right miss? Do you need any help?"
He offered an arm to support her.
Like taking candy from a baby. He thought to himself, very pleased with how quickly he was managing to get her.
"Come on, let’s get you off your feet, you’re clearly exhausted. I saw some of this overseas, you need to sit down and have a moments rest."
He’d wait until she was sitting to pounce so he didn’t have to carry her anywhere.

Candice stood there shaking her head and waving him off. Her eyes were all droopy, but in her mind, all she wanted to do was go home. "No... It's okay! You said... you needed to go somewhere, right?" She was unsure, but she did remember busting her brain to remember directions.
"Just... Get to where you need to go!" She continued to walk, right past the man. Candice definitely didn't know what she was getting herself into. The only thing that was on her mind was 'home' and 'sleep'.
Right after she walked past the man, she looked back and waved. "Bye! Have a good... night? Sorry... Too tired to stay!" Candice was half-dragging herself down the street, but hey, at least she knew where she was going...

Oh no, he was NOT losing this mark. He was not letting a half asleep woman slip through his fingers; it was a pride issue as much as anything else. He was probably putting more work into getting her energy then her energy was worth, but hopefully he wouldn’t be wasting too terribly much more time.
"No, please, you're in no shape to walk home on your own. Let me walk you to your street, it’s about the same way anyway, and it isn’t safe out here at night."
He resisted the urge to smirk; she had no idea just how unsafe.
"I insist. What kind of man would I be if I left you out here alone and clearly in such a state?"

She sighed as the man was so persistent. Her body and mind didn't really care if the man wanted to bring her home or not. Candice didn't really care if he knew which building she lived in since there was no way of finding her exact room. As she got more and more tired, and not being able to go home as fast, she was getting grumpier.
"Fine. You can walk me home, but..." she swung her book bag at him. "Don't touch me." Candice lifted up her book bag and showed him. "It might just be medical books, but they're big and they're heavy... And they hurt!"
Candice continued to walk down the street, slowly trying to make the way to her apartment building. "If I need you, you'd be able to tell! I think I've gotten used to going home like this now..."

Magnetite ground his teeth. He'd NEVER worked so hard to get energy before, he was sure of it. How hard was it to just touch someone?!
"Certainly, but it is late, and a lot of terrible things have been happening in town lately, it really isn't safe for someone your age to be out alone at night."
Magnetite was getting really close to shoving her into an alleyway and knocking her out with a beer bottle or something, but he’d been striving to be subtle up to this point and that felt like cheating.
"You know, if those bags are so heavy, I can carry them for you, at least until we get you to your street. And I won’t touch you."
He crossed a finger on the left side of his chest.
"Cross my heart."

She looked back at the man again. Her eyes were so ready to close that they appeared to be half glaring instead of just tired. Candice shook her head, though. "No one touches these books but me. They're too important to let anyone else carry, no matter how tired I am."
A yawn escaped her mouth and she quickly covered it before speaking. "You wanted to walk me home, so do so... But I'm a big girl! I don't need any help..."
Candice didn't really think she was being very mean, just... very blunt. She just wanted to be home and didn't care about much else. "As I said before, you don't have to be here. I'm very much capable of dragging myself home."

Magnetite rolled his eyes. This was ridiculous. He was a NEGAVERSE AGENT. This was below him. Well below him. He was very, very DONE with listening to her babble.
"All right, I’ve been trying to be nice, but I think this conversation is over."
He kept up the act just a little bit longer.
"You want to go home on your own? Fine. Go ahead. Have fun getting killed by muggers, I have better things to do anyway."
He turned as if to walk away, and suddenly turned back, reaching to touch her and hopefully push her over long enough to get her energy. He was NOT going to miss out on her energy.

"Hey!" Candice exclaimed. "What do you think you're doing?" She still didn't really understand the man and what he was trying to do. "Are you just some desperate creeper or something?!"
In most cases, you would think a girl in trouble would call for help, but not Candice. She was definitely calling out something but help wasn't it. "Jackass! Get off of me!" She kept yelling at the man, but it didn't seem like she could over power him and get away. Eventually, she tried to swing her book bag at him.
Candice didn't know if it was going to help, but she was too tired and frustrated to think straight to call out for help.

It was the noise that attracted Remarque to the scene—that and the aura of an agent of chaos. Initially Remarque had wondered if someone he was supposed to consider an ally was in danger, so it made sense to check it out.
He didn’t necessarily run to the scene, but it was hard to deny that he walked with a very rapid gait to get there—just in case.
From a distance he saw two people, and it took a fair few seconds for him to get close enough to realize that, no, it wasn’t the Negaverse agent who screamed, it was that girl swinging a back at him.
And then he realized who the Negaverse agent was.
Oh, balls.
He could just leave now and save himself the trouble—until he took one last glance at the girl and realized it was Candice.
Double balls.
“Hey,” he greeted in a harsh tone as he moved quicker, rather hasty to move to Candice’s defense. She might not have been a very close friend—he didn’t know her all that well—but, hell. If she was giving out free curry the next time they met, it’d be worth it.
“Moustache, back off. We're not playing this game tonight, she's off limits so back off,” he said, eying the Negaverse agent as he continued to approach. The last time, they’d been nearly equal in strength, but now, Remarque was a fair power level above the lieutenant. If he had any concerns about being outmatched, he had long since discarded them.

Magnetite paused mid lunge. Oh great him. Oh cute and he knew how to use a pet name too. How adorable.
"Whats it to you pretty boy? I saw her first, go get your energy elsewhere."
He didn't know where DMC Senshi put the energy they grabbed, but he wasn't going to ask this kid to send the energy somewhere useful. Not that he REALLY cared where the energy went anyway, so long as he was the one turning it in.
"It’s really not worth fighting over kid. There isn’t much here anyway."

Candice didn't know if she could be considered tired anymore. First the guy that tried to grab her, and now another random dude comes up and seemingly knows the dude with the mustache? She shook herself away from the first dude and gave herself some distance from the both of them.
She stood there and looked at them both. Candice yawned and rubbed her eyes, trying to take a better look at the both of them. "Why are you both dressed so odd?" She looked over at Magnetite and then pointed at Remarque. "Is that the family member you were headed towards? Can I go now?"
It was hard to tell if she was serious or joking around. Candice was so tired that even for herself, she was unsure if she was making any sense at all. To her, if they were family, she'd be better off trying to get away... Very soon. Instead, her body seem to give out from under her and Candice ended up sitting on the sidewalk. When she did leave school that late, she was used to being home already.
Now, she just sat there, clenching her book bag and looking at the two men, wondering what they would do.

“You,” Remarque said--in a very authoritative, commanding voice as he drew his attention to Candice. He pointed to the sidewalk where she was standing. “You, don’t go anywhere. Or else some mugger might get you.”
…Or some other agent of Chaos just trying to help their cause by draining some energy.
Remarque knew with Benitoite that he preferred not to drain his victims to death, however, judging what he could from Magentite, he wasn’t so sure the male would share the same thought process.
He turned to address Magnetite, once more looking him over. “…You’re right,” he agreed; there wasn’t much energy here. But, if he could help it, what energy that was here was going to stay here.
“…You might have better luck half a block in that direction,” he said, tilting his head just slightly to gesture towards where he’d just come from; he’d passed a trio of seemingly tired, intoxicated homeless men that would have been ripe for the picking had Remarque not been distracted by Candice’s screams.
If Magnetite was going to leave Candice alone, Remarque would sacrifice the energy he had planned to snatch from them. The night was still young; he could go get some energy any time.
…After she made it home. Preferably in one piece.
