Lonely.
The thought drifted across his mind as he made his way slowly toward the Villa. It had been a long time since he had talked to any other Oculai and the feeling of isolation was beginning to bother him.
Granted, he had Silver and Adrian to chat to whenever he wished.. but they weren't quite the same. For one thing, Silver always seemed slightly anxious around him and Adrian.. well.. he was a bit overwhelming in large quantities for the snail-bodied Oculai.
Galen absentmindedly adjusted the basket he cradled in his arms to a more comfortable position. He had first decided to head to the Villa in order to gather some more herbs but perhaps if Udara were there, he could visit for a while..
A small smile curved on his mouth.

Delphi awoke suddenly, flailing and falling from her raised floor with a thump. Luckily, she landed on her bed, but saving her skin did noting for her bruised ego. At the very least, no one was there to see her make a fool of herself. Falling asleep in the middle of a book was all too common an experience, but falling did mar her self-esteem.
It was probably for the best that she get some activity, even if it was involuntary, she rationalized. How long had she been reading this time? The empty teapot and plate on her desk suggested too long than was advisable, as did the echoing grumbles from her stomach. Frowning, she picked herself up, pulling a bright green sticky note from her back as she did so.
Food would be good. With any luck, Udara would be cooking something delicious in the kitchen. If not, she'd simply get more bread and tea and be on her way. Tucking the dishes under her arm, she ducked under the curling Post-It that served as her door and started towards the kitchen.

He nudged open the entrance to the kitchen and looked around carefully before edging in. He paused to set his basket down by the door and then made his way slowly toward the center of the room.
His stomach suddenly gave a protesting rumble. Dismayed, Galen glanced down at it and then tugged at the lock of hair hanging loosely in front of his ear. He had been so distracted about his visit to the Villa, he had forgotten to eat beforehand..
He gave himself a wry smile and then headed toward the fruit basket. With any luck, there would be something there.

The wooden panel shut behind Delphi with a soft click, a gentle reminder to lock the door. Frowning, she reached into a pocket of her loose tunic for the small gold key. Her shoulders tilted as she dug deeper; the pocket was deeper than she remembered. Or not. Two fingers wiggled through a hole in the cloth, just larger than the key.
Drat.
The good news was that the key had to be in her own alcove. That, however, was also the bad news. How she was going to find anything in the clutter was a mystery. Still, there was no one around, and such an enormous task required nourishment beforehand. Shrugging a little hopelessly, she continued on her way, humming to herself to keep the noise of her stomach from reaching her ears- or anyone elses.

He peered over the rim of the fruit basket and then crawled into it with a furtive glance around. A small grunt sounded as he struggled to push a rather large peach out. It wasn't as heavy as it was simply difficult for one set of hands to move. After a few more futile tries, Galen slumped back against the side of the basket, panting slightly.
Apparently his eyes were er.. bigger than his hands? He eyed the peach with a somewhat disgruntled expression.
Wait.. was that a voice? Galen straightened, peering over the rim of the basket again.

Hrm. No Udara, or so it seemed. No humans. No one. Which also meant no food, as if there was something Delphi couldn't do, it was cook. Nor was she able to reach the uncooked food with any ease. Where was her human when she needed her? First a fall, then losing her key, then no people to get her to the food. It was days like this that kept her in her den. That, and the mountain of books she had yet to comb through.
"Hello," she called hopelessly, "is anyone there?"

He blinked and squinted a little toward the voice. That didn't sound like Udara.. The Oculai scrunched down a little and then carefully eased himself out of the bowl.
"Ah.. hello?" he called out in reply. "I'm..! I'm here! Over here."
He went to the edge of the table and peered down, searching for the elusive owner of the voice.

Aha, so someone WAS there! An unfamiliar someone, but anyone was better than she had hoped for. Life, especially life that was up on the table where the food was, meant she might not have to starve after all.
"Ah, hello up there! Excuse me, but would you mind assisting me in finding something to eat?"
Her request sounded far too much like begging once she'd said it, but it couldn't be helped. Bluntness was the only way she'd be sure the mysterious party would get the message.

Ah, now there was something he could do!
"One minute!" he said eagerly. Galen brightened and shuffled around the table for a moment. Food.. food..
His eyes fell on the fruit basket again. Tightening his mouth into a flat, determined line, he returned to do battle with the peach again. He shoved a shoulder under the curve of the peach and heaved, bracing his shell against the side of the basket for support.
Almost there.. almost.. THUNK.
A rather surprised Galen went toppling over as the basket fell onto it's side. The peach spun out and went flying off the table.

Not only had she found a person, but a nice, helpful one. Maybe the day wasn't bad after all. Contented, she grabbed her elbows in her hands and waited patiently. Anytime now... whoever it was certainly sounded busy...
A loud thunk made her look up at the table again, and her body stiffened as a large sphere fell towards her. She had to pinch her arm to shake off the paralyzing shock, and shireked as she threw herself to the side. Unexperienced in dodging falling fruit, she shrieked as she rolled over, eventually sliding into one of the table legs.

Dazed, he stayed on his side for a few minutes. A small tremble of the table brought him somewhat out of his fog and he moved his arms experimentally. Bracing his palms flat against the surface of the table, Galen uprighted himself and shook his head to clear it of the last remaining dregs of surprise.
He stared at the basket and sighed in defeat. Well, at least the peach was out now.. but.. uh.. where?
His eyes darted about the table, searching for the peach.. and then he slowly peered over the edge of the table with the reluctant air of a small child about to open the closet door for monsters.
Oh, there it was. He frowned at the peach splatter and rubbed at his nose as his stomach grumbled sadly. Udara wasn't going to be happy enough the mess either.. He better clean it up.
He started down the leg of the table toward the floor before he suddenly realized the owner-of-mysterious-voice was nowhere in sight. This couldn't be good.

Delphi shuddered. It would definitely be a while before she left the den again. Mentally adding bruised stomach to bruised ego for the injury list of the day, she managed to right herself. Falling, losing her key, and nearly getting killed by a- what was it that had fallen anyway? Blinking to clear both her sight and her mind, she turned to where she had been standing.
Oooh dear... Udara wouldn't like that one bit. Nor did she, since the squashed peach was probably intended for her. At least the top was still edible-looking. Still shivering, she went to examine the damage.

At ground level now, Galen realized another golden figure was standing by the sad remains of what was once a noble peach. He moved toward the other Oculai, suddenly noticing her small tremors.
Oh dear. Overcome with remorse for nearly killing the first Oculai he had seen in weeks, Galen rushed (or er, as fast as a snail-bodied Oculai can rush, anyway) tthe rest of the way to her.
"Are you okay?" He exclaimed, features marked with guilt. His healer nature asserted itself as he automatically began to examine her various limbs for injury.

"For having nearly been killed by flying fruit, I'm fine," she huffed, turning to face the voice. A Hearth? She had thought that Udara was the only one around, but clearly she was mistaken. And she had been a bit rude to one who aided her.
Finally starting to calm down, Delphi extended one golden hand. "Forgive me, I didn't mean to be rude. Solitude can strip away social graces, if one ever had any. In any event, I thank you for the, eh, assistance."
