As the sun started to go down over Crystal Academy, a dog-like youma bolted towards the school's main building. Running at full speed, the creature had the body of a brown dog and could have passed for one had it not been for the extra set of eyes and the thick layer of green fur that covered its back. Coming from the back streets and avoiding the young ladies of the academy, the youma made a point to remain in the shadows as it let out ragged breathes. Waiting in the shadows, the creature did its best to remain out of sight since the last thing it wanted was another pursuer. Frightened, but not blind, the beast kept an eye out for any young girl that may have strayed from her circle of friends. Hopeful, but mostly looking for something to replenish itself after the lengthy chase it had just endured.

Arriving at the outskirts of the school, Super Sailor Boreas stopped to catch his breath. Though his powered up state allowed for an increase in stamina and strength, it didn't mean that Boreas could easily catch up to the speedy youma. Just as he was exiting one of the convenience stores on the outskirts of town, he spotted the canine youma lurking in the shadows of the nearby alley. Immediately he hid and transformed. However, what he expected to be any easy kill had quickly become a game of cat and mouse. Once the dog-like youma had spotted him, it immediately took off. Though the senshi of winter had given chase, the beast had eluded him once he arrived at Crystal Academy. Hesitantly, he looked around to make sure none of the girls would notice him as he headed towards the drama building. He needed a vantage point of some kind in order to spot the youma, but unfortunately, getting around as a senshi wasn't going be easy in a school filled with people.

Her last class had ended and Kyndall was on stage once again preparing for drama club. She'd been on edge for the past few minutes, setting about trying to work on props and things for the upcoming production but she felt...something. She wasn't sure what it was but she knew it was tied to Shalott and not to Kyndall. It seemed to be near her building and moving up. Her violet eyes drifted up to the roof, easily accessible from here, and wondered. Was it Negaverse? Did it feel different now that she was Shalott? Would Benitoite register differently to her powered up?

She moved into one of the dressing rooms to power up, not wanting to take any chances of being spotted even alone as she was in the theatre. You never could tell. She moved out of the room and toward the staircase leading up to the roof and down into the basement where the trap doors from the stage let out. She searched for whatever it was she was feeling and spotted Boreas ahead of her. Obviously a senshi, she'd come to recognize them, she stopped and stared a moment. This was the first male senshi she'd ever seen, let alone met. She didn't know they existed. Male knights, yes. Male senshi? Not so much.

At least he wasn't wearing a skirt.

"Who are you?" she asked softly, moving ahead. She was cautious of him, never sure what to expect. "I'm Shalott. I'm a Page of Earth." As if he couldn't tell by her costume.

Remaining out of sight, at least out of the senshi of winter's sight, the youma remained in the shadows of the facility. However, Boreas continued to search the landscape as best he could while remaining out of view from the various young female students that were making their way around the campus. The last thing he wanted was to have to explain to a group of teenage girls why he was spying on them from the rooftop. The idea of it actually made him laugh since any other guy probably would have taken the opportunity, but thankfully, neither Boreas nor Noel had any interest in ogling teenage girls. This moment was cut short as Shalott addressed him. Turning to face her, he shrugged and smiled before speaking.

"Nice to meet you! I'm Sailor Boreas. I know this doesn't look so good, but I'm actually looking for a youma. It's hiding somewhere nearby. I don't suppose you have caught a glimpse of it anywhere?"

Turning away from her for a moment, he scoured the campus once more and then made a gesture for Shalott to come closer. He then pointed down around the nearby buildings. He couldn't imagine that the youma went inside any of the buildings since the creature's dog-like appearance would have certainly caused more than a few young ladies to scream out in terror.

"It has to be around here somewhere. I don't think the youma could get away with hiding in one of the buildings, it looks more like a dog than a person."

Youma. Monsters. On her campus. For some reason she hadn't ever expected them to hit so close to home. There was no logical reason to assume this, of course, but she'd thought perhaps her place of work could be sacred. No such luck. Apparently she was in for a penny, in for a pound. Though she certainly didn't want the girls to become victims to this war and looked grimly determined. This was her area. She'd keep it safe.

"There are plenty of places for it to hide." she confirmed, knowing the campus very well. She'd been teaching there for a very long time now. Even if the youma wasn't inside the buildings, and chances are it wasn't, the landscaping and nooks provided lots of cover for a monster to hide in if they had patience. She came closer to the edge, knowing what to look for in the gardens. She'd passed by them a million times and knew if something was out of place.

At least Boreas seemed friendly enough, smiling warmly at her. She didn't recognize the name but from his costume it seemed to be related to cold or winter. Her eyes took up to scanning the grounds again, the inner courtyard a likely choice. The cafeteria was across the space with the main building rounding out the upper part of the inlet. She spotted something out of place across the way in the clump of bushes next to the main building. She moved over across the roof to the right to get a closer look.

"There." she narrowed her eyes, trying to get a better look at it. "That lump seems out of place."

With its entire body pressed down to the ground, the canine youma would have been completely hidden, but unfortunately, the thick discolored hair on its back gave it away to anyone who was familiar with the campus grounds. Though of course, the creature didn't know this. The dog-like creature was already waiting for a stray student to wander through the area, so that it could regain its energy lost in the earlier chase. The youma remained unaware that it had been spotted by the Knight and senshi on the nearby roof. In fact, it believed it had completely avoided any form of danger.

"We better hurry over there then! That particular youma is pretty good at running away. Follow me!"

While he was obviously in a hurry, his tone of voice was actually very enthusiastic. Adrenaline started to pump through his veins at the thought of finally destroying that annoying youma. Taking a final look at the spot that Shalott indicated, Boreas ran down the stairs towards the exit of the building. Though in the midst of corning the youma, he felt a wave of relief wash over him as Shalott pointed out the youma in the nearby courtyard. He hated to even think such a thing, but he knew it would have been nearly impossible for him to spot the youma on his own. Once he reached the bottom of the stairwell, he turned back to let Shalott take the lead.

"Since you know the area better, it would probably be best if you led the way, if you don't mind that is."

Kyndall nodded, leading him to the quickest way down. She pointed him down the hall to another exit, hoping to cut the youma off before it could escape. They'd have a gap, of course, but hopefully it would stand and fight if it thought it was found and surrounded. She moved toward a different door, coming up south of the creature and directing him north. The youma was blocked from going east by the building so west was it's only option. Shalott was optimistic he wouldn't get a chance to take it.

"Be careful."

She didn't worry about him in costume in this school. He could pass himself off as part of the drama club if cornered but she hoped he wouldn't be stopped, either. She hoped she wouldn't be stopped, either, because that would be awkward. She couldn't go and give away her identity. That would be bad. Camelot had made that clear to her how dangerous it was, before she even became a senshi. That she knew who he was she still considered it an honor.

She moved out the door, looking for signs of Boreas before she dared try to approach him. She didn't know if youma had a sixth sense about senshi like she seemed to have to Boreas. She felt him in a different way she felt Camelot but still kind of the same. This had to be a coordinated effort or it wouldn't work. The terrain worked in their favor, the inlet of the buildings converging in an almost enclosed space helped their cause.

"I'm ready." she told herself knowing she didn't really have any way to fight this thing but her hands. "I can do this."

Remaining close the ground, the canine youma had completely let its guard down as the two warriors of Cosmos were easily able to corner the creature in the courtyard. Sticking out, the thick green fur on its back remained a clear indicator of its position as the winter weather had stripped most of the vegetation of its greenery weeks ago. The few remaining bushes and shrubbery were a perfect cover for the youma, but not enough to keep it from being detected by a trained eye. As Shalott and Boreas pinned the creature in the courtyard, it quickly rose up to meet them. At first, it seemed that the creature would try and run away once more since the only ability it possessed was enhanced speed. However, as it saw a very small opening and little chance of success it quickly bowed up and began to growl at them. Given its lack of offensive prowess, it did its best to intimidate them.

"Stay sharp! Let's try to keep it pinned down!"

Boreas yelled out the order across the courtyard, more for emphasis than distance. He was easily able to meet up with Shalott, thanks to her directions and plan of attack. Corning such a creature would have been impossible alone and he was extremely grateful for the help. Though he still felt a bit winded from running around, he was fortunately feeling the adrenaline rush that came with every battle, whether it was a dog-like youma or a fanatical officer of the Negaverse. As he took a step forward, the youma instinctively bowed up further and raised the fur on its back to make it appear larger. Never one to back down, Boreas ignored the youma's warning and readied his magical attack. He knew his aim would have to be impeccable in order to destroy such a speedy beast, so this left him waiting for the right moment to strike. Carefully edging toward the beast, he signaled for Shalott to close in on it as well. His impatient nature eating at him to destroy the beast with a single attack since carefully tip toeing around the youma only served to irk the senshi of winter.

"Move in closer and let's try to keep it from bolting. If I can get a good hit in, I know I can either destroy it or seriously wound it."

Backed into a corner, the youma continued its efforts to intimidate its attackers. Boreas was growing more impatient by the minute as he noticed the beast had its back to a wall. Considering this his golden moment, he readied his attack.

"Tundra Torrent!"

Frozen air swirled in his hand and he could feel the increase in power from the winter weather. A smile crossed Boreas' face as he flung the magical attack at the beast. Truthfully, he had only done so a handful of times and his aim was much better when he slammed the attack into a youma. Hopeful, he didn't worry too much as he watched the attack head straight for the youma. Though tundra torrent did make contact, it only served to take out the large clumps of fur on its back and chill the youma. Instantly, the youma felt the effects of the senshi of winter's attack as it body began to shake and shiver.

"Crap, I only grazed him! Miss Knight, let's move in closer and finish him!"
PostPosted: Mon Dec 26, 2011 1:36 pm

She moved closer to the youma, keeping herself slow as she approached so as not to spook the thing or really even let it know what they planned until too late. Boreas seemed to have the same idea and she nodded at his coaching. Was the fact that she was a complete novice that obvious to everyone? Or perhaps the fact that this was her first real battle with anything? He seemed to have the bases covered as he moved into position. The youmas posturing did little to frighten her. They both knew he wasn't going to move unless he got struck by fight or flight and they were prepared for that closing him in as they had. He had no where to go.

This was the first time she'd gotten to see a senshi attack and pay close attention to it. Would she have something similar someday? Since Tony was a squire and she a knight she knew it was possible to move up in ranks but what did that mean? Tony's shield had changed, she knew, remembering the old and then seeing the new. Did that mean she would, too? She shook the questions away watching as the attack seemed pretty, and powerful, but also seemed to only cause the creature to be stunned, chilled into stillness. More would be needed and Shalott felt all but useless. Unless the youma happened to be allergic to flowers or susceptible to karate moves she wasn't much help.

On the plus side they could now get closer and really block it in without worrying about it taking off and escaping. A careless janitor left a broom out and she picked it up from where it was resting against the rails, turning the handle to part it from the brush. Staves. Staves were good and she was used to incorporating them into her fighting style. She didn't even mind Boreas addressing her by what she was rather than who. A pleased look crossed her face.

"Let's." she agreed. Finishing it sounded like a good idea. "These are my grounds. I won't have these students hunted."

With her staff in hand she felt strong knowing she her reach was extended and that hours of practice might pay off in a practical way. It wasn't as strong an instrument as she would have liked but it would do. She wanted to herd the creature toward Boreas in the hopes that the senshi would be better equipped to destroy it than she. She struck the staff down right in front of the youma's front, trying to back it up along the wall toward Boreas. She was the threat currently so it wasn't likely to turn it's back to her. She nodded to the male senshi. If he had a plan He'd best get on with it.

Cornered and shivering, the canine youma was in a sad state which quickly deteriorated as Shalott began to herd it towards the senshi of winter. Weakened from the senshi's attack and the earlier chase, the youma didn't have the energy to quickly retaliate. Instead it bowed up, absent its trademark mane, and growled as it slowly moved back towards Boreas. Bearing its teeth at her, it's growl grew deeper as it took each step back, as it wanted to intimidate her as much as possible without actually risking drawing the two of them into battle while it was still recovering from the earlier attack. Biting the air and viciously growling, the dog-like youma kept is attention on Shalott as they moved in closer to Boreas' position.

"That's it! Move it closer to me!"

As the youma was pushed back by Shalott's efforts, Boreas readied his next attack. As he was only able to use it twice, he found that he had to practice patience with each usage. In his early days as a senshi, he had simply used both attacks back-to-back in order to end the battle and stop the bad guys. However, the found this simple strategy generally failed and left him unequipped to deal with a properly trained agent of the Negaverse and/or a nasty youma. After his upgrade to a super senshi, he found he had to use each attack as if it were his last and this manner of thinking was far more productive than simply firing attacks off as if they were unlimited.

"Keep at it with the broom, the longer you focus its attention on you, the easier I can pin it down!"

Though his words were stern and advised her to remain its target, Boreas meant them as encouragement and praise for properly cornering the youma instead of simply barking orders at Shalott. He often wondered after meeting others if they understood the true intent of words and found himself hoping for the best in terms of reading into their meaning. Unfortunately, he would be left to clarify later as he found the youma was finally in range of his attack.

"Tundra Torrent!"

Another burst of light blue, frozen air formed in his palm. The beach ball sized attack was his last for now and he aimed to make it count. Recently, he had been forced to improve his aim as the battles had become more confined and the risk of harming a comrade greatly increased with their proximity to the intended target. Before charging in to attack, Boreas looked at Shalott and gave her a nod to let her know he was about to make his move. Rushing in, Boreas didn't take any chances and slammed the attack down on the youma's backside. Instantly, a majority of the youma's body disappeared and the remainder was frozen from the combination of the two attacks. Turning his attention back to the knight, he let her have the last blow.

"Only one more hit and we can finish this thing off, use that broom to kill it!"
PostPosted: Wed Dec 28, 2011 6:36 pm

Shalott focused on her task more than his words and if she was offended by him holding her hand she didn't look like it. She had other things to worry about like the monster in front of her and her precarious plan to move it toward the real threat when, at any moment, it could decide to turn on her just as easily. Thank God she had some idea of what she was doing or else she'd be shaking from head to toe.

She'd have to ask Camelot later if being terrified would fade in time or should be considered normal.

The youma was still goodly enough to do as it was coerced into doing, backing up slowly closer to Boreas and his senshi powers. He seemed to be reaching his limit of being intimidated, though, as the previous power began to wear off. She wondered how much further she needed to take it. Boreas was getting closer now and she just needed it in range of the senshi for her plan to work.

If Kyndall looked at dogs the same way after this she'd be heartily surprised. She didn't like growling dogs much as it was. Though her mind popped to Dogby and it was hard to imagine that ball of fluff being dangerous for anything but licking her to death. The corgi even ran from a squirrel to hide under daddy's bed. The thought made a smile tug at the corner of her lips.

She noticed the winter senshi's gesture and stayed where she way, turning the staff to give her more length and backed the youma up just the few more feet needed for the attack. It went off again with a flurry of cold and white and the youma was hit and frozen through very quickly. So quickly and easily, in fact, she was amazed. And glad she wasn't standing any closer as the ground around the room seemed affected to, almost reaching the toes of her boots. That would not have made her a happy Shalott. Then he spoke.

Kill it. Yes. With a broom. Bloody brilliant.

She turned the staff, twirling it in her hand with skill and grace before bringing it down forcibly into the frozen remainder of the beast. The thing shattered into icy youma shards and she assumed it could not survive in pieces. She looked to Boreas for confirmation of this and stabbed the staff into the ground to stand independent. Truly it was a bizarre and kinda queasy sight.

"Wow." She let out the breath of air she'd been holding and wasn't aware of. "That's gross."

Maybe this knight thing wasn't for her, after all. Killing monsters was a pretty brutal business not to mention kinda weird. But as she looked the frozen bits seemed to evaporate into nothing, leaving no evidence that they were ever there at all. Hard to hide the surprise she looked up at the senshi with a quirked eyebrow.

"Do they always do that?"

To say that the senshi of winter was desensitized by the many numerous and less than pleasant battles was an understatement. Time and experience quickly remedied the disgust that welled up inside not only from seeing such monstrosities, but also from watching them take innocent. Boreas hated to admit it, but he would gladly take watching them turn to dust then looking at them a minute longer. As far as he was concerned, they were the stuff that nightmares were made of.

"Regrettably, yeah, they are pretty messed up. Alive or dead, it seems. I take it you haven't dealt with many of them before?"

Boreas wasn't drawing attention to any kind of misstep or inexperience, but he knew from the physical reaction whether a person had previously encountered one of Chaos's pets. Unfortunately, it was somewhat of a mark of passage to be able to not only destroy one, but also become accustomed to their uglier attributes. However, the only upside was that Boreas didn't have to hide any bodies. He couldn't even imagine explaining the numerous and oddly shaped trash bags to his landlord.
PostPosted: Tue Jan 03, 2012 2:28 pm

"Lovely." she sighed, putting her hands on her hips. Convenient for clean up it was and easier for her not to have to try to explain it to the school's groundskeeper but it was also a little unnerving the way it simply disappeared in front of them, fragmenting into slivers of youma before fading away. Certainly easier.

She looked to the winter senshi and smiled at him. She couldn’t have done it without him and he’d let her get in the final blow. That seemed very nice of him to let her feel important. She’d work with him again if he wanted her to. She wanted to get deeper into the swing of things, learning more about her place and what she could do within it.

This was my first, actually.” She admitted to his question. “Is it that obvious?

She’d been terribly nervous but in true Rosen fashion she persevered to learn and try to look like she wasn’t completely amateur whether it was obvious to everyone or not. She held out a hand to Boreas, feeling the stupid urge to shake his hand as an unconscious gesture of thanks and good will. He’d guided her through her first experience and she was grateful for it.

I hope to see you again, Boreas.” She smiled, her face lighting up as thoughts of the youma faded. She meant it just maybe not so soon or for the same purpose.

With the long chase and strange battle finally over, Boreas felt the adrenaline leaving his system and the normal ache that came with each battle. Though his powers greatly lessened the physical strain of each fight, he still felt each one. This was especially true after chasing a youma half-way across town and running though a building. Adding this to his usual work out and swim schedule, Boreas was certainly ready to buy a six pack of energy drinks and cool off. Things were becoming very hectic as his civilian identity and role as the senshi of winter continued to clash.

"Nah, you handled that thing like a pro. I will say that is gets easier each time though. The first time I saw a youma explode, I nearly fell over from shock! Haha."

Reflecting back on his first encounter with a youma, he was glad someone with a little more experience in the field. He knew now that had the situation been different, he would be without his starseed and possibly one of the terrible monstrosities that terrorized the city.

"I'm sure we'll see each other again. Unfortunately, Destiny City doesn't have a shortage of youma. But next time, I hope for both our sakes that we don't have to chase it around in circles first. Haha."
