Stormfall was restless. The mare stood on the edge of the Thunderbird Herd territory and gazed imploringly at the land below. The intense gaze she narrowed at the land was filled with apprehension. Somewhere out there was her daughter. Tsunami should have returned by now. It wasn't just a longing to see her only daughter. Stormfall actually believe that something terrible had befallen her Tsunami to delay her return this long. While she had seen Kanic Ash and Wemitan less and less Tsunami had agreed to abide by the tenants of living with the herd. However she had a longing to briefly explore the lands outside herd boundaries. Stormfall had let her do so with a warning to be careful. But now ... something didn't seem right.

Stormfall knew that she could just be overreacting but as more weeks had gone by without any sign of her daughter's return she had grown more agitated. Something was keeping Tsunami from returning home - something or someone. There wasn't actually anything holding Stormfall back from searching for her daughter besides her duties to the herd. Stormfall's hooves shifted restlessly. To go out and search or not to go ... it was a fine line that she walked. Maybe she should leave word of the departure. The mare sighed. Although she felt the dire need to leave perhaps talking it over with her own mother would be a good idea. Stormfall cast one more longing look over her shoulder as she turned around. "Where are you my dearest Sunni?"

That night after deliberating over the options that she had the mare went to find her own mother. If anyone had experience in this department it would be Cataclysm. As a young foal Stormfall herself had seemingly gone missing herself but that was by choice. She had gone to track down the mysterious being that she knew only by the name of father. She had succeeded in that mission and then had returned home with her tale. Life had been quiet until she had gone away again for a brief amount of time.

Stormfall shook her head free of such wayward thoughts before she found her mother grazing nearby. As she approached Cataclysm she ran over her deliberations once more before announcing her presence. It was now or never.

Stormfall had made her decision. A few days had gone by since she stood looking down on the open expanse of the land below. She had talked long into the night with her mother about her reasons. Something was keeping her daughter from coming home so she would go out and find Tsunami and bring her home to safety. There was no telling how long she would be gone for this time. Life in the herd would go on without her. Hopefully her mission would end successfully. Looking over her shoulder at the land behind her Stormfall straightened her wings. With no further delay she took flight from the Thunderbird Herd. The skies were clear. Stormfall dipped lower and lower in elevation before turning away from the mountains. She had no idea on where to start her search. It was a confusing thing. Was her search akin to locating a needle in a haystack? Stormfall refused to give up hope though.

There was a bit of doubt in the mare's mind as to what she was leaving behind. Winter was coming on and it was going to be difficult to search during the cold. Angling her wings the mare settled into a slow, but steady flight. It was time to begin. She needed to find others to question. Hopefully she'd get answers to lead her on the correct path that would help her find her daughter.

Stormfall was now regarding her decision as rash. When she had departed the herd the weather had been unseasonably warm. There was no hint that winter would arrive with a vengeance. The first few days that the mare spent flying as though nothing was wrong with the world. She'd land and question other Soquili that she spotted from the air before taking off again. But on the fourth day of her journey a wind blew in bringing an alarmingly dip in the temperature and grey clouds that were laden with snow. It seemed as though a freak blizzard had blown in just in time to sideline her search. The mare struggled with the elements as she flew erratically.

Landing was the only safe option. Her wings burned with the effort to support her body as she dived towards the ground. Her legs buckled as she hit the ground hard. Stormfall groaned before picking herself up from the ground. There'd be time later to feel the pain from her landing. She needed to find shelter as soon as she could. Otherwise she'd risk exposure. Stormfall ducked her head and scanned the horizon. She needed shelter and fast.

The blizzard had passed over. The world was blanketed in white and tucked away deep inside a little cave a figure stood shivering. Stormfall's injuries from her abrupt landing were not as serious as she might have thought at her initial assessment but she was injured. There had been too much strain on her wings as she fought towards land and now they refused to work. A day after the winds had died down she'd stepped outside her shelter to take to the air and the pain that lanced through her wings when she tried to fly shocked her. Never in her life had she experienced something so agonizing. Flying was what she was born to do. What could she do if she couldn't fly? As Balrog had once told her "the skies were her inheritance" ... but now she was grounded for the time being.

Stormfall gazed imploringly at the mouth of the cave before gently lipping at the few shoots of grass she had managed to scrounge. The meal would not be enough to tide her over and with the blanket of snow covered any potential food sources from her immediate discovery. Alone, bruised and hungry; what a turn in fate to have befallen her. However the intensity in which she craved answers burned brightly inside of her. She'd rest for now and continue her journey when she was able. Sidelined - but definitely not out of the game.

Days passed by. Each morning Stormfall exited the cave and gently exercised her wings. The mare made sure not to overdo anything lest she injure herself even more. That was the key. Enough but not too much. It seemed that her approach was starting to work. Her wings felt stronger with each passing day.

Stormfall took a last long look at the shelter that had sustained her during this time. The skies were clear and she believed that her injuries were as healed as they were going to get. Something in the air told her that she needed to move out again and she was not one to doubt herself. With a gentle flick of her wings she caressed the cave's smooth walls before trudging outside. The snow levels had receded since her arrival. Grazing was easier and Stormfall settled in for one more meal.

When the sun was at its zenith Stormfall raised her head and nodded to herself. It was time to leave. Satiated and brimming with confidence the mare took a bit of a running start before lifting herself into the air. She gave a joyous bugle as the wind once again passed under her wings. Airborne. Stormfall gazed towards the direction she was heading in ... already ideas forming in her mind of who she wanted to seek out.

Stormfall drank deeply from a stream she had found. The water had been covered with ice. A few well-placed hoof strikes had created a hole large enough for her to slake her thirst. She was waiting. The one idea that had bloomed in her mind during her latest flight was that she needed to recruit help. To actually make this worthwhile though Stormfall knew that only family would be interested. That is why two days had passed since she'd found this location to rest. Her companions had fluttered off in an attempt to locate a being that Stormfall knew existed. He went by the name of father.

Perhaps Fantome wouldn't even answer her summons. Since it was his granddaughter that was missing Stormfall fervently prayed that this wouldn't be the case. He had a right to know his grandchildren and she wasn't about to keep them from knowing of their grand sire. Stormfall glanced up to the skies around her again. All she could do was wait for any sign that her companions would return.
