Caly padded around the eastern edge of Pride Rock with a concerned looked on her face. She'd only been in the pride for a short while, so her unease was justified, but not her reaction around Akairo. Whenever she was near him she could loosen up, and take in her surroundings with an open heart, instead of expecting some loud mouth to give her marching orders or tell her to beat it.
She didn't feel comfortable around anyone else enough to strike up any small talk, so when she wasn't being versed in the ways of the Pride Lands she just...walked around. Caly didn't really want to bother Akairo since he had his duties to uphold, nor did she really want to bother anyone else because she didn't want to make friends. In fact, Caly wasn't sure WHAT she wanted. A home? Or adventure? Or adventure in a home? Friends? Enemies? Frien-emies?
She groaned and rolled her eyes. What she needed was a swift kick in the pants, but that wasn't happening any time soon.

“You don’t look very happy.” A small voice piped up from behind a large rock and a pair of bright purple eyes slowly rose as the head if a young cub came into view. One tiny paw helped propel the cub over the rock and the golden boy looked up expectantly.
“I’m Kwende, what’s your name?” the little cub whispered after looking around furtively and suddenly dropped to the ground and hid behind the rock again without so much as an explanation. There was, however, a muffled giggle as a little red tuft danced playfully at the edges of the rock.

In her surprise, Calypso turned to look at the young cub. The more feminine side of the young lioness melted on sight. It screamed that he was just too cute, and that his eyes were the prettiest little eyes she'd ever seen, but it was quickly pushed back.
"How can you be so sure, Kwende?" She watched his antics with a light hearted smile, and a little eye roll. Cubs. "Oh no, where did he go?" Calypso gasped dramatically, craning her head to and fro in mock search. "Kwende! Kwende, where did you go? Now you'll never know my name!"

“You were frowning!” the tailed rock quickly retorted in a loud whisper. If she was frowning, she couldn’t be happy, right? As simple as that!
“Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!” It was if a snake was hissing furiously from behind the rock. A forehead popped up from behind it and then two bright purple eyes followed suit, wide and bright. “Don’t do that! I’m hiding! Don’t say my name so loud!”
He had actually been playing hide and seek with his siblings but the truth was that he was far more interested in talking to a friendly adult. He circled the rock with a few quick steps and ran to the orange lioness trying to hide behind her instead.
“As punishment, you have to hide me everywhere I go.” He paused, cocking his head for a few seconds as he looked up. “You’re really big… almost as big as my dad. What’s your name? Are we related?” Rei was a fairly large lion and most lionesses – even those born in the pridelands – tended to be visibly smaller. Kwende stared in wonder.

Calypso gave laughed quietly. "Sorry." It was pretty clear at this point that he was either playing a game, or hiding from his superiors after getting in trouble. She could only hope it was the first rather than the latter. Her crimson eyes twinkled with amusement as she came closer, dipping down so as not to give away his position.
That is, until he came around behind her. Really, now? How was she supposed to even move a paw without knocking into the little guy? Calypso looked down at Kwende, her own head cocked to the side for the moment. His question had really knocked her off balance. "My name's Calypso, and we're not related, so far as I know. I'm from a place far, far away from here." At least, she didn't THINK any of her family was in the Pridelands. Then, almost teasingly, she added, "Are you sure that you're daddy is bigger than I am? I'm pretty big."

When Claypso’s head moved closer, Kwende unceremoniously sniffed her nose and then gave it a quick lick for good measure.
“Dad’s big, too. He’s always afraid he’ll squish us.” The cub chuckled with a happy grin looking up with big wide eyes, apparently finding the idea terribly amusing and completely missing the little tease in the lioness’ tone. “Are you sure…? Dad is orange-y too and he wasn’t born here. His name is Rei and he has purple eyes!” Maybe she was… an aunt! She could be! No, she definitely was! “Hey, you didn’t tell me your name! What’s your name?” A cub walked past them and Kwende ducked behind the large lioness as his voice gradually dropped to a soft whisper.

She'd...never seen a cub quite like this one before, and despite herself, she was feeling more open to the little guy. As strange as it was, the lick he'd given her was probably the cutest thing she had ever seen.
Well, at least someone feels that way. She could sympathize with the cub's father; she was worried about whether she was going to step on him or not. "Alot of lions have orange pelts, so that's not much to go on." Calypso couldn't completely rule out their being related, as she hadn't met Re, but she wasn't going to give him an inch to go on.
She stood still a moment, patiently giving a smile to the other cub before it walked off, making sure to keep her legs as close together so as not to give Kwende's position away. When she was sure it was safe, she turned back to him. "I've told you my name already. It's Calypso."

Kwende made a silly little exasperated face as if he were silently chastising the lioness for crushing his hopes once again. Not that he actually needed more family – oh, he had enough of that! – but the idea of an unknown aunt suddenly arriving from the mysterious rogue lands was rather appealing for the young cub. He loved his father's stories about faraway lands and strange creatures.
“Ah… sorry.” He had the decency to look mildly abashed when Calypso had to say her name again. He was already easily-distracted to begin with and carrying a conversation while playing hide-and-seek was not exactly helping the situation. “I can introduce you… to my father.”
Oh, that was a great idea. They would find out for certain if they were related and he’d help introduce the lioness to a bunch of lions so she’d probably like that.
“Dad is a Scout. He’s always with uncle Samawati and uncle Akairo. They’re not like real uncles but almost. They’re always around.” He chuckled, wondering what the adults would think of such an odd little introduction.

"Really?" The idea of meeting this cub's father wasn't very high on her priority list until he dropped the name of a few she already knew. One name in particular had her smiling, though she had the good graces not to appear overly eager.
"I've met Akairo a time or two before, and I've heard of Samawati." Wasn't he that golden lion? The one with the daughter? "Let's go talk to them, then. Maybe I met your dad a long time ago in the rogue lands, and I just forgot about it." She highly doubted it, but if it kept the cub interested enough for her to talk to Akairo again it would be worth it.

“You already know them?” the cub asked in awe, bright eyes looking up at the orange lioness. “We can go now? Great! Follow me then!” Kwende said excitedly, jumping out of hiding and was instantly spotted by another cub who had been playing the game. The cub ran up to the other to explain he was leaving before quickly turning to the adult again.
“All set! Let’s go!” the young cub said brightly, leading the way without going quiet for even a second. “I’ll introduce to my mom first! She’s a princess, you know? And then my six brothers and sisters. I also have some older siblings. Nine of them. If we see them, I’ll introduce them too!”

Caly shook her head. Cubs were full of more energy than she ever could even dream of possessing. She figured his parents would have their paws full with this one, and she could only hope they didn't have a whole litter like him.
"A princess? Really?" Oh wow, this kid really did have connections. "Well, what are we waiting for? Pick up the pace, champ, we've got people to meet." Caly said with a laugh. She had a feeling that she was going to have serious social shock by the end of the day, but it would be worth it.
Maybe Akairo would even be there.
