Flying had lost a little of its charm for Terra. Currently the batwalker was putting distance between herself and what she'd left behind at a ground-eating lope. The last decision of hers had sent her on this journey. She was going to track down anyone she could find of the Blood Moon Carnival. Although she assumed she was out of her right mind for even attempting this. What if she found something out that she didn't like? Terra gave a grimace of distaste at that thought. Anything she learned would merely help her to grow even more into her new role.
Slowing to a canter the batwalker took note of her surroundings. The sun was dipping below the horizon and Terra gave it a mock salute. There was a forest in the distance that she could hunt in if she got hungry and woe be anyone who thought that they could stop her from doing so. Embracing her heritage as a skinwalker had left her feeling more powerful than ever before. The mare would foolish to think that she was the most powerful so she settled for knowing the difference in her mind. The sounds of night life awakening in the distance had Terra salivating. It was time to hunt. Like a shadow she slipped into the forest to satiate her hunger.Tefla's teepee = http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=18150559

Demon lazily strolled through the forest, the wolf had been fun to play with, it reminded him of his adventures with Santeria.... they had once been more rival than friends, but as things had developed they had become friends, even to the point that he had started to see her as 'his'; but not in the same way as Cherish.... no, there was nothing romantic connection between them, Santeria had her own mate to rely on. He stopped.... had he really just compared that son of a b***h to Cherish? He growled, angry at himself, but at the same time pleased... after all, he did enjoy pissing the SOB off! He would purposfully rub himself 'intimately' against Santeria just so that his scent lingered upon her before she left, it always angered her but she came back for more. Demon suspected she loved it. He was in a good mood, his lips curled up in the softest of smiles -though most would see more of a snarl due to his oversized fangs. That was of course until he remembered one very, very important thing.... Cherish was still stolen. He growled again. Her family would give her back to him.... one way or another. No one played with things that were his....! He slammed a hoof into the dirt of the forest, it was dry and crumbled below the impact of his hoof.... it had rained far to long ago in this area for his liking, some of the forest animals had started dying due to the lack of the lifesupporting substance. Demon didn't care that they died, no, after all he would happily kill any of them for his supper or simply for sport, no, what bothered Demon was that if this continued his hunting ground would be spoilted. Lack of food made him one cranky Kalona. Demon stopped. Ears twitching. Something was close.... he sniffed the air, every predatory instinct flaring to life. Something or someone had ventured into HIS forest! Large. A soquili. Wings. Light hoofs on the ground. A predator? He went to growl, only stopping himself as to not reveal his position.... it was time to play a game of hide and seek! In a flash Demon moved to the shadows, blending perfectly from all the practise he had. It didn't take him long to locate the source of his announcance.... a batwalker! Rare, almost close to his own breed, their leathery wings similar yet so different.... still.... it was unacceptable! His nostrils flared at the arrival of a secondary scent.... wolf, if he wasn't mistaken. Demon decided to observe.... for now at least.

There was something stalking the woods nearby. Terra had realized this just shortly after entering the forest. The mare gazed forward seemingly unconcerned. This game had worked before. To appear unaware sometimes brought her prey to her. This time was no exception. A loud snarling from her right had Terra bracing herself just in time to see a large canine charging towards her position. A smirk graced her face as she turned her body to meet the charge.
Her wings had been tucked tightly against her side until now. Just as the wolf leaped towards her seemingly unprotected side Terra flared her wings and delivered a stunning blow. The wolf tumbled backwards end over tail and struck a nearby tree. Terra grinned lazily as she approached the stunned animal. It looked like dinner was served. Although the creature appeared to have the fight knocked out of it Terra was careful as she gently tugged at the creature's side with the tip of her winged claw. The animal didn't respond. With a quick motion Terra used her claw to slash the wolf's neck. The creature would be lucky to even realize what was happening before its life was ended.
Terra watched impassively as the scent of copper rose around her. It was strange to say the least. Most predators had run from her before. What caused this wolf to have tried to attack her? Studying the now dead animal Terra noted the creature's thin appearance. Obviously starvation drove the creature to try and take down a much larger target. Who would have thought it possible? The batwalker took another glance at her surroundings before dragging the carcass away from the tree. Eat or be eaten. That was the rule of the food chain. Someone was always on top. Tonight it was she.

Demon huffed, rare ashamed that he actually enjoyed the walkers little display.... though for him, the fight had been over too quickly. The good thing about the animals in their current situation was that they had a lot of fight in them, desperation often had that effect, when you had nothing to lose you tended to give your all.
He waited and continued to watch as the creature looked around -did she sence him or simply seek more prey? So far she hadn't made a move to eat the wolf she had just killed... was she killing just for sport? Given the delicate nature of the forest right now... that was not a good thing. When the small animals numbers dwindled the larger ones soon followed, if the effects had reached the wolves then there was a slim chance he may have to change hunting grounds -something he would despise doing, as this was HIS forest! But survival dictated that he have blood and flesh to survive, he would never lower himself to eat.... grass! A shiver ran down his spine at the mere thought.
Focusing once more he watches as the intruder went about her business. He could tolerate the interuption no longer. Pride and survival drove him forward -even as a small part of his logical brain told him that there was a chance he could lose against such a beast. "Almost impressive," he hissed, his voice carrying an almost delicate growl with each word as he stepped out of the shadows towards the walker. His eyes wandered to the wolf, and then to her claws.... if he had been a lesser creature he imagined he would be inclined to run away from such a scene, but instead he embraced it. If today was his day to die.... so be it!

Terra had been about to take the first bite from her kill when her ears swiveled to catch the sound of a much larger creature moving towards her location. As the words floated on the air Terra actually bristled. She took in the arrival of the intruder before hastily standing in front of the wolf's carcass. The stranger wasn't what caused the reaction in her though. It was the words that he had spoken. It almost sounded like an accusation that this stranger could do better. From the quick once-over that Terra spared it seemed like this newcomer was of the Kalona breed. While she shared the commonality of seeking out a meat-only diet this stallion could survive on grass if needed. The stranger's appearance caused Terra to snarl in aggravation. If this stallion thought that he could waltz in and take her kill than he'd soon learn a valuable lesson.
The mare stood silent for a moment as she observed the stallion. Certainly a Kalona - but there was more to it than that. Oh well. Terra remained motionless before lowering her head to take a quick bite out of her kill. Slowly her head rose as she glanced at the stallion again. Crimson liquid, blood, dribbled slowly down her neck as she gave a dramatic swallow. She brought the claw that she had used on the wolf to her mouth and licked it before letting her hard gaze settle on the Kalona.
"What do you mean by 'almost impressive?'"

He stepped forward so he was close enough for her to see his size, scars and traits but not close enough that he was in direct swiping distance... she would have to move to get him, and he would have time to react. He smirked, he supposed everyone who had ever tried to teach him something would be proud that for once he was using head and not simply rushing forth towards his death. Of course, the beast before him knew not why he smirked, his extended fangs probably making him look more to be snarling.
He shrugged at her question, not at all intimidated, his heart beat steady within his chest.... and a small part of him was pleased that it was at least eating the wolf that lay dead upon the ground. Still, he had marked this teritory as his own, and while it was not quite as important to him as the mountain side where Cherish usually stayed safe and eagerly awaiting his return it was still HIS. He sighed, a dramatic sound designed simply to extort some type of responce from her... after all, rattled 'prey' were far easier to distract and overwhelm. "You have entered MY forest." He growled around the 'my' showing dominance and possession. He would fight for his land, for his entitlement.... at the same time
Plus he was thinking of Cherish, she wasn't with him... and that was eating him alive one sliver at a time... he just wouldn't admit it out loud. Perhaps getting bloodied and broken would help clear his head.... or better yet... an idea slowly started to form, perhaps he could somehow find a way to trap the walker into assisting him in his cause...?

As the Kalona emerged from the shadows Terra got a sense of his size. She couldn't judge his appearance on that merit alone. When she'd met Jayden he had appeared larger. The smirk that the stallion gave her had her on edge briefly. Terra mused silently as the stallion seemingly shrugged off her question. Well that was quite rude. Her hunger was far from being appeased but she didn't wish to lower her guard again with this stallion so near to her. Moonlight glinted off the manacles that adorned the stallion's forelegs. Obviously he too had escaped from something it seemed. While he had come nearer to her Terra realized that he did stay out of the possible range she had for an attack. That means that he must have been watching when she took down the wolf.
As he made his statement with a growling emphasis on the word "my" Terra echoed his gesture from before with a shrug of her own. "I don't care if this is your forest or not stallion. I go where I deem fit. I also see no visible signs that this parcel of land is claimed," Terra gave a small smirk of her own before she continued. "Maybe you should make your signs bigger. Or is that too much for someone like you to handle?"
Terra flared out her wings. The wingspan that she had was impressive. It didn't help her to fly in her larger form though but in her smaller form she was a force to be reckoned with. She was wary in taunting this stranger but felt compelled to do so.

Demon grinned at her, this creature was as deadly cold and efficient as the stories had said. His mother had often spoken of them, regaling stories of a time when Kalona's and batwalkers had worked in harmony before each breed had gone their own way. Kalona's had become the enemy of Angeni's, the yang to their yin. While skinwalkers had become the enermy of all. Impressive. Not that Demon had ever reserved his own skills for the pure breed, they were rare and he was far happier in a constant flow of blood -the source mattered not. Then he shook himself, that wasn't true -he would never take from Cherish, not for substance at least.
He found a growled chuckle escaping his lips, "Signs are not needed when reputation is enough, when I am more than capable of marking my territory in another way.... blood." He tilted his head, looking to the wolf. "By all means, eat your kill..... I shall not steal it from you." His mind was already attempting to place a plan into motion... could he possible entice a skinwalker to join his cause? Even if she was in it for a different purpose? The mere thought that Cherish's family would cower at fear at the mention of what HIS army contained, well it was enough to make him drool. He had already recruited several strong fighters, beast of all manner... some who only fought because he gave them no other choice. Black mail was a great tool if used well.

Terra merely snorted in response to the stallion's comment about reputation. But she did find her gaze and hunger directing her to gaze at the carcass of the wolf again. It had been decent enough in size and Terra flicked her gaze to that of the Kalona again. He said that he wouldn't steal the kill away from her but would he try attacking while she was distracted? Her hunger decided the issue and she lowered her head and took a heartier bite of the dead animal. She flicked her gaze to the stallion occasionally. What kept him from attacking if this was indeed his territory? Something else was in play and Terra's senses kicked into overdrive. As unstable as she could be the batwalker also trusted her gut instincts sometimes. There was something else going on in that stallion's mind. Terra continued to make the most of her meal before finishing.
At least now she was satiated. Terra kicked at remained of the wolf, which was very little, before thinking on the situation. She didn't exactly feel like fighting with this stranger but there seemed to be something that he wanted. Why else would he not challenge her else wise?
"You claim that this forest is yours by your reputation. And yet I have never even heard the whispers of others mention fear of this place. Maybe I haven't been listening hard enough though. So stallion are you going to introduce yourself or leave me guessing at what your name might be?"

Demon found a growl escaping his lips but he surpressed it... he had a higher goal, a purpose and he couldn't allow his emotions to block such a thing. Cherish hung in the balance... and he would not lose what was his. "I could care not if such a beast as yourself has heard whispers.... it is not as if many would find you a common target for idle chat." It was true, he imaged most would fear for their lives at that moment when faced with his creature.
"As for my name.... I am called Demon." Demon had always felt it was fitting, and he did his best to live up to it. A true demon of the world. A force of darkness and blood. "Your own?"
He looked over to the wolf carcass, surprised slightly that she had risked eating it in front of him... perhaps she was simply that hungry? He would have to tread carefully in fear of becoming her next target.

"You are right in saying that many do not risk idle chatter in front of me. It does not stop me from listening in on conversations if they do not know that I am about though. You tend to hear more than simple-minded beings pleading for you to spare their life if you stalk from the shadows."
Terra spoke of experience. She'd hidden in the shadows as her smaller bat form and taken in a lot of conversations that weren't meant for her ears. It had been interesting at first but now she rarely deemed those below her to have meaningful talks. It was like her interest had dimmed over time. Now since she had embraced her true nature such talk merely resulted her trying to attack the ones talking. Sometimes it worked especially if her prey were of the small animal variety like those that partnered with Soquili. What were they called - ah yes - familiars. Of course it didn't matter now. What mattered was trying to find the angle that Demon was trying to play.
"I can't say I've heard of you," Terra paused. Would she actually want another creature bandying about her name. Although her decision to look for those she sought was freshly made Terra was uncertain if she wanted them to know in advance. Terra snarled softly more in annoyance. "My name is Terra Stryker. I'd say it was a pleasure to meet you but I really don't care."

Demon nodded his respect for her cunning, and the way her eyes watched him gave him the impression he was being stalked for weakness. He would have coward had he been a lesser creature, not that he didn't have that urge for self-preservation but there nothing to be done now, he had revealed himself after all.
The name that hit his ears was unfamilar to him, but that didn't surprise him since he had never met a batwalker in the flesh before. He didn't even know if his mother had ever had direct contact with one before, after all the information had been basic.... but gave him more of an advantage than others who knew nothing.
"Understandable.... consider me a passing fancy!" He chuckled to himself, making it appear as if he had relaxed when in truth his eyes caught every detailed, his relexes trained to react with a seconds notice... one could never be too careful around such creatures.
He looked at the Wolf again, "Did you enjoy?" His attention returned completely to Terra as he spoke again, his glowing eyes enough to put weaker creatures at ill-ease, though he suspected this one would not notice. "I could offer something more challenging to wet your appetite." In that moment Demon felt as if he was making a pack with the devil herself!

Terra snarled at Demon's presumptuous chuckle. She would do no such thing. Why should she consider this stallion a passing fancy? The idea was not something to her liking. The batwalker watched Demon with a calculating gaze before glancing at the carcass of her prey from before. The wolf had been enough to take the edge off of her hunger for now. She was loathe to admit that she felt she even needed something akin to a guide for this forested area. However if she merely to take wing it would solve all her issues. But maybe she could pick Demon's brain of what lay beyond.
"What if I did enjoy the meal? Are you offering me more?"
Terra growled uneasily. She did not wish to rely on someone else for her sustenance needs. The idea was simply not to her taste. Her wingtip claw flashed forward towards Demon. It was not an attack more like a reaction test. She wanted to see just how jumpy this stallion was around her. She could feel that he didn't trust her one bit and that was wise. But now she wanted to know what his agenda was. Why had he revealed himself to her?
"You say you could offer me something more challenging. Why offer me something like that unless you gain something? What is your angle Demon? What aren't you telling me?"

Demon watched, and waited. His entire life had been built on pain and death, so when she struck out towards him the only reaction he gave was the thining of eyes. The flinching had been litterally attacked out of him as a young colt, by the evil Lana'thel and her minons, they had tried everything to recruit him, to destroy the spark of life that made him exactly who he was. And in truth, Demon liked being himself far to much to want anything else.
When she spoke again he didn't even pretend to contemplate her words, he simply spoke the truth. "No point lying, something that belongs to me was stolen and I want it back. But keeping it captured are...." He chuckled, "...lots of tasty morsels that I could nothing for." It was true, they had stolen her from him so now he didn't care what happened to them now... yet there was a slight twinge, as if harming Cherish's family may actually harm her.
He paused for a moment and then said, "I doubt you would be interested. So I shall leave you to your.... hunting." He flashes his fangs and looked around trying to decide the best way to leave.

Terra cocked her head to the side as if she were actually contemplating Demon's words. Her little test had had no effect on his movement. That was interesting. Her agenda though was concrete. She didn't have the time necessary to offer any assistance to this stallion. Why would she even care to deliberate her decision? She didn't owe anything to him. Even the offer of tastier morsels could not sway her to follow this stallion. Her gaze narrowed as Demon apparently read her intentions loud and clear.
"I am not interested. I have other interests in mind right now. They don't revolve around someone foolish enough to lure one such as myself into aiding them either. So I will take my leave from you Demon. I don't think I'll be stopping here again. This forest is dead. Continue to live here and you'll die too."
With that Terra decided to shift forms. The hell with walking. Flying was easier for one as small as she was in her bat form. She squeaked loudly before slapping at Demon's head with her wingtips before flying off into the darkness. It was time to continue her search.
