Jett was not against texts by any means, so most of the time he rather enjoyed having someone to converse to without actually having to talk or see them. He wasn’t much for idle chatter on the phone, but texting was a good way to pass the time and talk to someone without having to be too dedicated to the conversation.
He and Raven exchanged a good number of texts—most of the time.
Conversation with Raven had been relatively slim after she’d gotten the dog, and the long (albeit mostly pointless) conversations he and the girl had once had seemed to have all but disappeared. Sure, she still texted him pictures of the dog doing adorably cute things, but if Jett hadn’t known better, he’d have suspected she liked that little rodent more then him.
So he’d devised a clever plan to get her out of the house and have her attention off the dog for a bit.
Or, at least. For long enough for her to remember that she was dating him, not the dog.
Jett had called her to make sure he had her full attention and chatted her up for a short while before he got to the point—dinner and a movie.
Of course, Jett was feeling a little stingy, so he’d informed her that, yet, it would be fast food, but he did promise to hold her hand or snuggle during the movie.
If Raven had been using the dog against Jett to warrant his attention—it had worked. He pulled into her driveway at five, sharp, put the car in park, and then honked his horn.
Had her parents been there, maybe he would have been discrete or tried to make a good impression—knocked on the door, called her, whatever. He kind of liked harassing her; it was good to keep her on her toes.

Once again, Raven was playing with the puppy. She was ready to go, yes, but… But that puppy was just so completely adorable. When she heard the car honk, she sighed, shaking her head. “What a jerk he is, don’t you think?” She held the dog up in the air then sighed, before putting the small creature on the bed. “I’ll be back later, my dear! Be a good girl, okay?”
The blonde stood up then and ran her brush through her hair before braiding it loosely and throwing a sweater on over her turtleneck.
She ran down the steps and out the door, locking it behind her. After that, she went to Jett’s car and plopped inside it, sighing. “You honked, really? You can’t even just call or text me? I’m not some sort of trained animal, Jett. But. Nice to see you.”
She sighed and stretched out, though blinked when her foot hit something that was rather interesting for a car. “Um..Jett? Why do you have a can…”
She bent down and looked at it. “A can of carrots in your car? Were you hungry or something?” Man. Maybe Jett was a s strange as Darwin.

A small smile twitched onto Jett’s face when Raven came into the car and started nagging him about honking; he ignored her and just continued checking his stocks until she mentioned the can. That got his attention. He finally lowered his phone, content that the market wasn’t going to drop in the next few seconds, and glanced at the can of carrots.
“…If I was hungry, I’d stop for some fast food, Raven. I thought you’d know me a little better than that,” he huffed. “…Buckle up,” he demanded as he put his hand on the stick, pulling the car out of park and into reverse. He began to back out of her driveway, peering over his shoulder to make sure he didn't hit her mailbox.
Though, that would have left him with an interesting introduction story to tell her parents, he was sure. “Nah, there’s this event that the city’s doing. Food drive. One of my friends kept bugging me to help. I thought she got all the cans, but. Guess she missed one and left it in my car after we went shopping or something,” he mused, thinking it completely possible that one of the many cans he’d gotten for Millie had spilled out.

Raven raised a brow as she looked at the can of carrots in her hand. The label informed her that they were ‘fancy cut’ carrots. Since when did the way something was cut ever have anything to do with the taste of the vegetable. It was like green beans. They had all sorts of cuts for green beans, fancy cut, French cut. It didn’t matter. What mattered was that all green beans tasted amazing when mixed with mushroom soup and French fried onions. That’s what mattered.
She gave a little sigh, looking forward to when she would be able to have this wonderful indulgence again, then shook her head to clear her thoughts. “Huh.”
Finally it seemed that Jett’s words had gotten through to her and she looked up at the male and frowned. “’She’, Jett? I do hope you weren’t making out with this ‘friend’ of yours…Because I thought that this time you and I were on the same page that we are in fact dating.”
If he was screwing around with someone else, yeah. She was going to get very, very mad. And no amount of puppies could fix that.
There was a nagging voice in the back of her mind that should tell her to be interested in the nonsense about the food drive, but she ignored that, for the moment at least. Figuring out if her boyfriend was cheating on her again was the most pressing matter.

Jett scoffed and gave Raven an annoyed look. “She’s ten, Raven. Chill out. Just because I hang out with a girl doesn’t mean I’m making out with her. Are you so paranoid?” he asked, returning his eyes to the road as he stepped on the gas a bit more.
”You know,” he continued, “you can trust me. I’m not going to go cheat on you. You forgot to tell me we were dating when I was making out with Harmony. I have very strict policies about what I do with other people while I’m dating, all right? I’m not some flake. If I want to make out with someone else, I’ll break up with you first. Put a little faith in me?”
He seemed mostly calm, eyes on the road, though there was a slight bit of agitation—Raven’s words had damaged his pride and, given that Jett was a prideful person, he was very much on the defensive after her words. It wasn’t just that she was jabbing at his fidelity, it was that she hadn’t given him a chance after the whole thing with Harmony—which had all been some big misunderstanding in the first place.
It’s easy to cheat on someone when you don’t know you’re dating them.

Raven blinked, then felt her cheeks heat up slightly in embarrassment. “Oh. Well…No, you wouldn’t cheat on me with a ten year old…that is quite silly. Sorry.”
The blonde glanced out the window, holding the can of carrots tightly in her hand now. She didn’t really want to comment on him asking to put faith in him…because right now, she still wasn’t sure she could completely just put her faith in him. Blindly trust him and trust that he would be hers completely.
Bah. It was time for a change of subject.
“So, a food drive, huh? That sounds like a pretty good cause…maybe I’ll see if my mom and dad have any canned food lying around and I’ll bring it to you, okay? Then you can give it to your friend.”
There. Maybe that would direct this rather uncomfortable moment back into more neutral waters. She didn’t want today to spark a fight…she just wanted to enjoy the time she had with Jett. And…maybe she needed to take a chill pill and not get on his back for every little thing.
Maybe.

Jett was something akin to relieved with a subject change, though there was still the mild nagging of a lack of closure on the topic. Still, it was always possible that now wasn’t the best time to talk about it—Jett had enough going on that he didn’t need drama with Raven, too.
“Yeah?” he asked, relaxing a bit in his seat. “All right, that would be fantastic. She’d certainly be thrilled with it. And it would pad my pocket a little better. I spent almost a whole week’s paycheck buying her cans. Not that I wanted to, she just…”
Jett felt a little more ridiculous admitting it, but grumbled, “Tricked me into it. I don’t like kids,” he added. “Sneaky little bastards. Very pushy, too. You know, you might like Millicent, though. I’ll have to introduce you two. It’s way less creepy for her to be hanging out with an older girl than me. Plus, she could learn a few things from you, you’re quite a catch,” he said, flashing a smile.

Raven laughed. “On just cans? Goodness, Jett. Between me and her, it seems like you’re going to be broke before too long, aren’t you.” She reached over, taking his hand and giving a little smile. “Ah. I don’t know. Kids and me…Not sure I’d really get along with many. Sometimes they really get under my skin and I just want to punch them. That’s cool that you get along with her. You could always call it community service and stuff.”
The blonde shrugged. The food drive might be fun, and maybe she’d hang out with Jett and his little friend someday. Maybe. If he really wanted her too. Kids weren’t her thing, and she didn’t think they ever would be. “But…I’ll bring you all the cans I can find, okay? I’ll help you and her out. Maybe if we feed enough homeless people, they’ll have more energy that we could farm from them.”
And it never hurt to give back to the community…Well, so long as it wasn’t an every day thing. But, it was the holidays and one good deed wouldn’t hurt her.

A rich laugh spilled from Jett's lips and he glanced over to Raven, fortunate that they had hit a red light so he could do so. "I like the way you think," he said, lips curled into a smile.
And it was true. He doubted things could have worked out much better than the way they had been—and suddenly there was a nice new twist to this whole food drive thing. Raven was right—the more food that they had, the more energy they had, the more energy he could get from them.
Things couldn’t be working out better.
Oh. Unless it wasn’t coming out of his pocket.
