Hey everybody. I was just curious what you all thought. I heard anti-depressants had awful side effects, but I also heard they are the best thing to have during teenage years. Of course you should go to a doctor first.... o.o

Actually that's a very good question. I don't like the thought of using drugs as a general rule of thumb, and I'm particularly leary of anti-depressants. Besides all the possible side effects, once your body gets used to a chemical doing something, it no longer tries to do it for itself. That's why I've been working hard on cutting back my caffine intake, is because I would get horrible headaches from not drinking any pop, and I knew that wasn't healthy.

I don't like how the drug industry keeps putting new things on the market with horrid side effects that haven't been fully tested out in long term studies, and then pulls them from the market when people start dying. I don't remember which drug it was, but there is now a class action lawsuit against the company because it did kill a few people. ~_~

Back to anti-depressants though. I personally wouldn't use them because it would be too much of a crutch. I could blame everything on being depressed and I wouldn't be taking responsibility for my own happyness. I would just fall back on taking a pill to make my life easier, and that isn't right (for me at least). I would rather feel both the good and the bad in life than to be lukewarm at best, and go through life drugged up all the time. I perfer having a clear head about things.

I agree on your veiw. Yet, currently I have been taking prescribed anti- depressants since I was told by the doctor that it was a hereditary illness passed down from family members. My mother has it, her mother has it, my dads mother has paranoia issuses. It's kind of freaky I feel like Im not thinking strait but I also feel more confident and loess vicious. I no longer want to kill everything xD Anyway, my family has major depression and paranoia issuse xP

I know that one of my aunts was commited for a little while due to depression...so my mom told me to be careful because it's a somewhat herreditary thing.. She also told me about a few other things in her side of the family that aren't exactly things I wish to repeat, but I know i"m at risk which is my first tool in combating it really.

Anti depressants do diddly s**t, pardon my language.

I was admitted into the hospital after a suicide attempt, and they put me on anti-depressants.

They made me even more depressed.

Life sucks... stare

Anti-depressants.
The messed me up.
Didn't really help.
It could be maybe I'm not meant for them.
There's not much to sya about them
Only take them if your doctor says it's okay.

I think they're just a temporary fix for the problem.

Hmmm...anti-depressants, I have anxiety problems, where I always feel like throwing up at school, I've had it for a long time and still have the problems now. I went to a doctor and I think he told me to take those anti-depressant things, unless it was another type of drug...it was something to stop myself from worrying all the time. But I didn't take them and never will.

There are nasty side effects to prozac? I am currently taking that. o.o i have noticed a decrease in my appetite. thats weird. o.o Im scared...

I wouldn't worry too much if that's the only side effect you've got. Some people I know are on prozac with no problem. Everyone's affected differently, and I got weird problems for some reason.

If you want to switch, though, Celexa might work. It treats the same symptoms as prozac, and nobody's got withdrawal symptoms from it.

I was on anti-depressants for a while when I was 14, and I wish I'd stayed on them.

They really helped. I guess I just got lucky, because some people aren't compatible with cerain kinds, but after the initial feeling of worse depression, they eased me into a much more laid back place.

They should never be considered as a long term more solution. More, something to help you through a weak time while you learn better ways to cope.

I don't approve of anti-depressants. I think people need to learn to deal with their own problems. But I do have to say......that my mom is on anti-depressants. She doesn't take them for depression though. My mom has a rare nerve disease, and it's incurable. It makes her nerves constantly send signals of pain to her brain. It hurts whenever someone touches her and even hugging too tightly can be a problem. The anti-depressants they give her are used to help dull the pain. I don't think that there is anything wrong with that. So if anyone reading this is taking anti-depressants because they can't handle life, at least make sure you have a good enough reason.
