User ImageSangria looked at the remains of the torn and shredded basket. It was not long ago that she'd been pretty sure of her life and the direction it was heading. The night she'd taken a dare to go on that seemingly abandoned ride though changed everything. The mare had left the next morning not knowing that something was growing inside of her. That was until it was too late. She had suffered a little bit of stress when she made the connection to what had happened. The worst was trying to stay out of sight of her ally. This condition had caused Sangria to be scarcely seen. And now - well maybe now was the time to reveal the reason why.

Her son faltered along behind her as she shook her mane. How on earth had something so seemingly abnormal come from her. Some of her features her son shared - but those wings were a curiosity. Sangria was taking Zacharael to meet Naraku. The mare seriously doubted that Naraku would do anything to her son when he found out but she was erring on the side of caution.

Zacharael stumbled after his mother. The colt could only guess about who his mother was meeting with. She had only told him to be ready to meet an ally. His tail whipped along the ground as he trotted eagerly after Sangria. He'd behave for now. A low growling noise echoed around him though at the thought that this ally would hurt his mom. He'd fight to protect her if it came down to that.

Naraku had noticed of course, that his new ally had been...absent for a while. He frowned a little and decided she would come back on her own in good time...she certainly couldn't have gotten herself in any trouble, and even if she had, she was a smart mare, She'd know what to do.

He had set himself up in the cave they had last been in together, making it a pleasantly poisonous hideaway for himself. He figured she would know where he was, it was quite easy to see his trail for anyone smart enough to realize that it WAS a trail. Dead vegitation and small animals, killed by the poison appled to his hooves lay in a swath around the area. He waited patiently, for he had all the time in the world to lurk and mix his poisons. Waiting and watching for anything or anyone he could make useful.

When Sangria got here, she would explain. His eyes glowed in the dim light, dancing red and pink in the light of his jewel. There was always a reason for everything afterall. And to the back of the cave he went, his fur rustling in the darkness.

Sangria's keen eyes didn't miss a thing. Her roaming gaze took in the swath of destruction left behind from Naraku. Now was the time to start educating her son it seemed. As they had progressed further along Zacharael had begun to stick like a burr to her side. She gently nipped her son's mane before sighing. How did she go about explaining poisons to someone so young. Without much pause Sangria spoke.

"Look around you Zacharael. Everything that you see that is dead or in the process of dying is a result of poison. There is a cave somewhere in the middle of all this death and destruction that we must travel to. That is where we will find my ally. This is his doing - just be careful and don't get overly curious. The poison still lingers in these animals."

Sangria would have liked to have snacked on the way here but she had hidden that side of herself from her son at the moment and was content enough to graze on grass.

Zacharael shook off the n** from his mother before suddenly stopping. His eyes took in the scene as Sangria spoke softly. Just one person had done all this? It seemed impossible to comprehend the scale of damage. Suddenly Zacharael was unsure if he wanted to meet this ally of his mother's. He wanted to turn around and go home. Anything that did this surely would be a scary sight. Zach's wings fluttered nervously against his back as they tended to do when his emotions ran strong. "Momma. I don't want to go on."

Naraku picked up her scent rather easily, it was unmistakably her of course, his nose never lied, even through the acrid perfume of the various poisons he made, he smelled crushed vegitation, but undernieth the grass and flowers...was the coppery scent of blood.

He had instantly been captivated by her swift mind and how she somehow managed to be both delicate and rutheless all at once. Yes, what a fine associate she made. Though as he slunk out to greet her, he smelled...another, his eyes narrowed to bloody slits and his white pupils dialated oddly. Who would she bring to his lair? and WHY?

Though as she got closer, he heard the rustle of little hooves along Sangrias heavier hooffalls ...One eyebrow raised very slowly.
Unless this was one of those unusual small fellows he'd seen about...Sangria had some explaining to do...So he waited for what was soon to come, like a spider in its web, he waited.

The mare paused at the turnoff to the path that led to the cave. She caught the sound something larger rustling about nearby. Gently and as motherly as she was going to be she halted Zacharael's movements by standing in front of her son. Her gaze narrowed as she caught a flash of white in the darkness. So he was still around. Gently she nosed her weapon free from her leg before turning her attention back to the foal now hiding behind her. Clamping down on her cleaver she watched the movement of the whiteness beyond. The shape was vaguely reassuring. Sangria knew that Naraku was lurking nearby and had probably already realized she was back.

Ducking her head she let her weapon fall to the ground before speaking in a normal conversational tone. "Naraku - I know you know I am here. Quit shuffling around in the darkness. You need not to hide from an ally."

Sangria gave a soft chuckle as she continued with a small ribbing of the stallion. "Unless you are afraid to face me again."

As Zacharael was ushered into place behind his mother's protective stance the young colt fluttered his wings. Where he'd gotten them from the youngster didn't know. Mother hadn't told him of his father yet so maybe the answers lay there. There was an undercurrent of excitement though as he heard Sangria call out to an unknown entity. Even he'd picked up on the rustling sounds before she had stepped in front of him. Peering around his mom's backside Zacharael watched for any movement. Although he was still young he felt a fierce wave sweep through him. If this ally tried anything fishy Zacharael would try and stop it.

He smirked behind the curtain of darkness that hid him from view, of course she would know he was here, her wits were just as sharp as ever. " Welcome back Sangria...i see you brought a guest" His voice purred out of the dim like poisonous velvet, lovely to hear and dangerous to fall for.

He stepped out of his cave and smiled down at her, his sharp teeth glittering " Why my dear friend~ i wouldn't want you hurt, OR me for that matter~ you are much to valuable" he chuckled " and i would like to keep my pelt clean thank you~" His odd white pupils landed on the strange winged foal beside her and many things in Narakus mind began to tinker, the puzzle pieces were on the table, now to put them together.

His tail curled behind him like a cats " Hello little one...and who might you be?"

Zacharael started suddenly at the appearance of the stallion. He had not even realized that the curtain of plants had concealed a cave entrance. The little foal looked to his mother surprised; she hadn't even flinched. He vowed there that one day he would not show fear in front of anyone. His head shot up as the stallion addressed him directly. Confused he sent a frantic look to Sangria before falling silent. He backed up so that he was hidden from view. Zacharael didn't want to answer unless his mother would indicate that it was alright for him to do so.

Sangria noted her son's reaction with a little bit of consternation. She understood that he was still young and prone to being shocked; but to actually decide to look to her and seek assurance was ridiculous. It had to change and fast. Well she'd need to train him better in the near future.

Stepping boldly forward Sangria made a small sound of frustration before addressing her ally. "Thank you for the most pleasant welcome," her voice dripped with sarcasm. "I can not help but wonder what caused you to utter it."

Sangria's posture changed minutely as she shuffled her hooves. The sarcasm left her voice as she craned her head back to look directly into Zacharael's eyes. "I did bring a guest as you have noticed. It is because of my guest that I have been away as of late. I have no explanations or theories for how this happened. Naraku. Meet Zacharael, my son."

He smirked at her and the young unusual looking foal, his smile as dangerous as the air around him. " You're oh so welcome" he responded just as sarcastically, his tail curling languidly behind him " I simply say whatever comes to mind, as i trust you enough not to care" He chuckled, his voice velvety as his eyes took in the entire situation before him.

" Your...SON?" his eyebrows raised far more than usual, he was surprised, caught off guard even, such news it was. His words lingered in the fetid air surrounding the place. " My my...you have been busy while you've been away" he curled his lip and the spade of his tail lashed behind him.
His white pupils dilated as he stared down at the foal " a little incarnation of your dainty dangerous self. Those are some...interesting wings" he murmured " I'm sure you can tell me alllll about it, at your leisure of course~" he purred.

He turned slightly " You can come in if you wish, i'll clear the air"

Zacharael wasn't sure if he liked this strange stallion. His hooves skittered a bit as he ducked behind Sangria. He folded his wings so that they were hidden from view. So much for not showing any fear. Maybe that ability would come to him in time. He was still a young foal. His crimson eyes peeked out at Naraku's form as the stallion turned to head back into the cave that he had emerged from earlier.

Nipping sharply at his mother's tail Zacharael froze as she turned her piercing gaze on him. His voice came out in a mere whisper, "I don't want to go in there."

Something lingered in the air; a fetid stink that terrified Zacharael to no end.

The mare gave Naraku a glare of annoyance. He did not deserve to know about what had happened that one evening. In her eyes it had nothing to do with Naraku so why should she tell anything to him. Instead she took up her ally's offer to settle down in the cave. After a long day of constantly walking with a youngster in tow Sangria was ready to take a break. The kid was starting to get a little bit on her nerves. Her voice was steely as she answered Naraku. "Yes. I said my son. I'd appreciate it if he can be shown the same courtesy that you afford me."

At her son's whispered comment Sangria turned around and nudged Zacharael's backside. "You ARE going in son. I will not leave you alone outside."

Then she turned her back to Zacharael and followed after Naraku. It was going to be an interesting next couple of days.

He easily found what he was looking for, a small, clear vial with similarly clear liquid swirling around inside of it, he uncorked it and tossed the contents into the air, within minutes the miasma around the place began to clear. He rubbed something on his hooves to negate the poison there, his hoofsteps no longer killing what he trod upon. " Well, come if you are, it should be relatively safe to breathe now." He purred, his voice like crushed velvet " Though i'd still take short breaths for now, your lungs will get used to it."

He slid through the curtain of foliage that concealed the dank cave in which he lived, he had spruced the place up a bit, he had carved shelves of some sort out of the rocky walls, they were filled with glass vials of many shapes and sizes, he had procured them from a human scientist who had traveled to the Kawani lands, Naraku had simply poisoned the creature and taken his stuff. Easy.
It left him plenty of stuff to tinker with, plenty of liquid death to make.
The floor was covered in a thick, comfortable carpet of dried vegetation that had been tied together to hold, jars full of fire flies lit the dark cave. His eyes seemed to glow in the place, as did the jewel, hidden deep inside of his pelt, but yet, it's glow was still visible through the fur. " So how have you been Sangria? Well i assume?" His eyes never left the child who, though intensely strange, with his wings and all, hid behind his mother. Hmmm, a weak child was of no use to him...

Sangria nosed her way into the cave after Naraku. She seemingly didn't fear the vapors inside like she should have. Interesting enough the cave looked like it had been made more comfortable since she had left. She heard soft footfalls behind her and was pleased that Zacharael had entered the cave. She was displeased to have him hug the wall like he was afraid. Whatever. Sangria eyed the jars with interest. What a novel concept of providing lighting. She nosed one of the jars before the familiar pink glow from Naraku's jewel caught her eye. "So I see you haven't lost your treasure yet?"

Sangria left the sentence ending more like a question. She was still examining the jars before sighing. The cave seemed much more like a home now. It could be a place to come back to and just relax.

As Naraku asked to how her state of being was she couldn't help but notice that his eyes never left Zacharael. Perhaps now it was time to explain the child's origins. Sangria wrinkled her nose briefly. She still didn't understand the logistics behind that night and the aftermath that followed. Taking a deep breath to show her son that it was all right to breath the air now, she locked her gaze on Naraku's form. How did one even begin to tell such a tale?

"I've been well as one could be. Don't think for a moment that I haven't noticed that you constantly have your eye on my son. He's not some insect that you can dissect. I'd actually prefer it if you left him out of our dealings. In exchange I'll let you know how he came to be."

Sangria nudged her at her son to guide him near the back of the cave before she continued. She wanted him out of sight for the time being.

"It was hereabouts near the middle of fall that I last saw you. During that time I'd begun to wander a little. I was restless and there was nothing to cure that. One evening I noticed a little derelict building that seemed to be abandoned. Curiosity drove me to explore this oddity. It seemed to contain some sort of ride inside and even though it was abandoned I swear that there was still something about the place that seemed alive. Intrigued I decided to stick around. About a week later some Soquili passed by and I questioned them enough to answer the questions I had about who had left such a thing behind. Apparently it was a ride from the same carnival that my father had left once upon a time. My curiosity burned brighter from that moment. The other interesting thing I learned was that some sort of magic took place near the night of Halloween. I deemed that I'd experience this magic for myself."

Sangria took a breath to see if her story was having the intended effect on Naraku. She wanted him to know everything. She gave a quick glance towards Zacharael before continuing. She was essentially telling her son at the same time. She continued. "Around Halloween there was an influx of Soquili visiting the ride. Some went in together as a couple before emerging from the other side. It seemed that they believed spirits might bless them to conceive. I didn't believe it. How could a little shack contain that much power? Near the end of the night I took matters into my own hooves and pushed my way through the line to enter. I thought I was alone. Later I realized that a stranger must have entered just before me or right after. The ride was not that long in length and shortly after I entered I found the exit. I left the area feeling cross at myself for believing the rumors. There was no magic to be experienced. My opinion changed after a few weeks of travel. I began to feel strange sensations and it was then that I realized there might have been more to the rumors than I had put credit into. Soon after I found myself expecting. Zacharael is certainly not what I expected of that night but I cannot leave him. I'm his mother."

Naraku sneered as the two entered his lair, most creatures would have died from the sheer amount of toxins surrounding the place, but with his permission, and a little scientific knowhow, it was possible for him to allow entry to this place. " Of course, it is my prized possession after all"
He raised a delicate eyebrow, his hair whispering against the dry leaves that made up part of the floor covering " Oh i would not..."dissect" him Sangria, I was merely curious, that's all." He chuckled darkly. " Especially those wings of his, never have I seen their like~Hmm" He shrugged " But as you wish."

He listened intently, his eyes glittering as she told the tale of a strange ride that had given her a foal. Stranger things HAD happened. " How very interesting, were it not YOU telling me this I would never have believed such a tall tale, but so it must be, and I suppose that would partly cover your sons appearance, though he still greatly resembles you." He purred " That being a good thing."

" Right right" He wrinkled his nose " Mothers cannot leave their precious kiddies behind somewhere for the walkers to eat, i'm sure he will be strong when he grows, and useful to you." He smiled " congrats are in order then, in this situation." He smirked sharply, his fangs glinting " Keep the little tyke close then." He said plainly, tucking the glowing jewel closer to himself. " And next time, don't be SO curious about strange rides."
