The walk out to the training grounds was quiet; Jordan couldn't think of anything to say, for once. Maybe he should have had the cookie after all, he reflected. The things seemed to make him talkative.
Ferros snorted, but said nothing.
I know, bad idea. Jordan glanced over to Jerry. "You okay?" he asked after a moment, recalling the older man's expression as they'd left the cafeteria.

"Fine, fine, I'm great! Still a bit sore, but us Sun Hunters have to stay fit, huh?" Jerry beamed, positively dripping with forced enthusiasm. "A few scratches aren't going to slow me down, ahahaha. That's uh. Nice of Robert. What he's doing for Petra, I mean. What about you? You planning any big presents for anyone? Have any requests for Christmas-slash-Hanukkah?" He wanted to get the phoenix leader something nice, that was for sure. But he had no idea what.
Same thing with Candace. Would jewelery be too forward? A gag gift too goofy? He had time to ponder, he supposed.

"Still thinking about it. I'll probably write down a list so I can make sure I get everything when I actually go out," Jordan answered. Jerry was definitely acting a bit off, his smile not quite natural; something was up, and it was obviously something he didn't actually want to talk about. He'd leave it for now, Jordan decided, and didn't look at the thought too closely. "How about you?"
They'd reached the training grounds; Jordan stepped back, cracked his knuckles, and summoned Ferros, a small sigh of relief escaping him.

"Oh, Goodness... I hadn't even thought about myself. I'd say some music, but I don't even have a CD player here, ahahah, and NORMALLY I'd say anything but socks, although mine are getting pretty worn and I'm not too fond of the ones they supply here, they're all itchy. I'm still... debating on what I'm getting Candace. I KNOW what I'm getting Robert, but that's a secret. Harrison- don't laugh, but I want to get him a unicorn something. It's.... an inside joke, ahaahaha. I think he'll love it though, I'll just have to find the right thing for it to be perfect." He summoned Roar as well, the cannon materializing in a green glow on his bony shoulder heavily. "You ready?"

The corner of Jordan's mouth quirked. "Well, I know I'm getting Robert a bathrobe," he said. "For the mental health of everyone in the hall, you know."
He swung Ferros back slightly, falling into a stable stance. "Ready as I will be," he replied, and tried on a confident smile.

Jerry cackled, "Oh, thank GOD. Alpha, you really are the most practical person." He positioned his weapon better, taking a few steps back, "You sure? Roar can pack a punch..."
Seeing as how Jordan was just waiting for him, Jerry took aim- just a bit to the other Sun-trainee's side. He didn't REALLY want to hurt him, but at least this would give him a primer.

"Practical, or sneaky?" Jordan's smile was more genuine this time. The focused blast of Roar's howl stung his shoulder and face; he shook the hair out of his eyes. "Don't hold back," he said. "You want this to be good practice, right?"
Ferros snickered. Our turn.
A few swift strides brought Jordan into range, and he brought Ferros around in a quick arc. "I won't go easy on you."

Jerry gave a yelp as Jordan's weapon came swinging, glasses slipping down his nose as his skinny frame crumbled after just one good blow. "Aah- s-so I see! Ahahaha! Serves me right thinking it would be any other way! Just... just remember I'm healing a bit still, ahahaha, don't need to go back to the infirmary too soon or Candace'll kill me herself!"

Jordan hesitated for half a moment, some unreadable emotion flickering in his eyes, before his smile turned deliberately wicked. "In that case," he said, "you'll have to let me know when you're just about done. Or beat me. One of the two."
A half-turn brought Ferros swinging back at Jerry. "Come on, man. Hit me."

Jerry gave a yelp at Jordan's encouraging shout, Roar misfiring as he jumped, "Aah! Sorry, you startled-" He started, but was unable to finish as the heavy hammer came swinging down on him, tumbling back into the grass.
Yes. He should. Probably start paying attention now, definitely.

Honestly, sitting, or crouching, anyway, was the best position to fire. While Jordan was hesitating, hand offered, Jerry gave a mischievous grin before flipping the cannon up, "Gotcha!"

Caught off guard, Jordan stumbled back a few steps; Ferros swung forward, clipping Jerry's shoulder lightly. Once he'd regained his balance and breath, Jordan started laughing. "That's what I get," he said, and grinned. "No more help for you, not till this is over."

Light glinted off of Jerry's glasses as he swayed to his feet, hefting the cannon up wit a fresh, well aimed blast. Roar purred in the back of his mind, Yeah, man, that's how I like to see it.
"Always be afraid of the skinny guy!" He cackled excitedly. Perhaps the Joy cookie had finally sunk in. Or perhaps it was just a Jerry-ism. Honestly, he was glad for the opportunity to show off a little in front of his old-leader.

Either Jerry had been being sneakier than usual, or he was starting to get into the fight now; either way, his aim had definitely improved. Jordan had been silently considering telling Ferros not to flame. Now he decided that no, he was going back to the no-holding-back policy. It was a good thing, anyway; it would be a more effective fight if both of them were being serious about it. In a relative sense, anyway.
Distance put him at a disadvantage, with Roar's longer range; Jordan put his strength into a straightforward charge, throwing his momentum into a spin at the last moment and grinning evilly at Ferros's gleeful roar as the hammer's head burst into brilliant flame a second before impact.
