Practicing on a training dummy, Eva had realized, was boring. Maybe it was just because she had been spoiled by sparring with some of the other trainees, but it just wasn't any fun fighting against something that didn't move or couldn't hold a conversation with you.
The solution to this problem? Find someone to spar with, obviously! Reine and Otto had been the first two to come to mind, unsurprisingly, but Eva honestly wasn't sure if she could bring herself to beat up the two who she considered her closest friends right now. Not yet, anyways. But who else? Who would pose a good challenge? Someone bigger than her, and stronger, and living close by--
--Ah.
"Hey, Robert!" Eva knocked on his door, grinning from ear to ear, "Are you busy today? I need a sparring partner!"

Robert opened his door just enough to peek his head out through it. There was a toothbrush hanging out from his mouth, and his lips were covered in foam. OH GOD HE'S RABID DON'T LET HIM BITE YOU EVIE.
"Whuff's uff', fretty fafy?" Robert asked, the toothbrush and mouth full of toothpaste hindering his speech. He held his hand out, a single finger risen up in gesture for her to wait, then left the door open as he went back inside and finished brushing his teeth. After he spit into a bowl, he wiped his mouth with a towel and grinned with a shiny set of bright, newly cleaned teeth.
"Course I'm not too busy for you, doll. Sparring sounds like fun." He reached up and tugged on a lock of her hair, before winking playfully. "Let me finish getting dressed and I'll be outside in a minute, all right beautiful?"

Bahaha, oops! Maybe she should have waited a bit before asking him to spar! While he finished brushing his teeth, Eva leaned against the door frame and mulled over the possible meanings of "fretty fafy". Pretty...pretty...fatty?
...I don't think so, Eva.
Hmm, what about... Unfortunately (or fortunately), she didn't get too far before Robert returned.
Grinning, she gave his hair-tugging hand a playful swat, and then gave him another on the arm. "Doll, beautiful...Evie, Robert. My name is Evie." Laughing, she jerked her head in the direction of the training fields. "And I'll meet you there, then?"

Robert looked overdramatically hurt at the swats, and pouted as she walked out the door. As soon as she was out of sight, his cocky grin returned.
A few minutes later, he was fully dressed and had already summoned Jezebel by the time they'd walked outside. She was waiting patiently, and he gave her a flourished bow.
"Evie, then." Robert greeted her with a smooth, even tone. His eyes still held the same mischief as before, however. "Please, be gentle. I don't know if I could hit such a pretty face."

Like before, the bow was met with an exaggerated curtsy. "Thank you for accepting my sparring invitation," Eva smiled, trying to keep her tone even to match his. After a moment or two, her lips spread back into that familiar grin of hers and she summoned Chara, giving the weapon a twirl.
"Oh, don't worry about it, Robert. If it helps, you can think of me as a man." A crossdressing man. "Now, get ready!"
Would she actually win up against Robert? Eva had no idea, but she was going to try not to make a complete failure of this battle!

Robert stared at Evie, trying to picture her as a man.
His brain broke.
"Sweetheart, I don't think I could ever picture you as anything but the fine piece of-"
HEY.
Right. Engaged. Thanks, Jezebel.
" .. Hunter trainee that you are." He finished off lamely, giving her a thumbs up. "Bring it."

Eva raised a brow and laughed. "For the sake of your relationship with Reine, I will pretend that I didn't hear that slip-up." She informed him, giving Chara another spin. It looked as if she wanted to say more, but she chose to withhold the comment for now in favour of suddenly lunging forward and bringing down the bladed end of her staff.
She felt the attack hit (woohoo!), and so she immediately jerked backwards in an attempt to distance herself further from Robert. "But yes, I certainly hope to be a fine piece of Hunter in the future. Right now, I'm but a lowly trainee~" Eva lifted a hand to her forehead in the typical "damsel in distress" pose.

She had wracked him with pain on the first hit, and then tried to play the damsel in distress. Robert rubbed his side, grinning through the pain. "Mmm, I really wouldn't call you in distress, Evie. But you are most certainly a damsel."
His batleth swung in one arm, before flicking out at her, with a hit that.. might have felt a little weak. Was he holding back? Maaaybe. Would he admit it? HELL NO.

She stumbled back a little at the hit, but it wasn't anything too bad. Once she regained her balance, she propped her free hand on her hip. "Hey, hey! Robert, don't hold back on me, okay?" While she had never actually seen the man in action, she had seen those wounds that Otto sustained...granted that she didn't quite want to go that far.
"And I'd much rather be the knight in shining armor than the damsel," She informed him, chuckling as she swung out for another slash which, unfortunately, she misjudged the distance for. Oops. Raising Chara in case she needed to block, she raised her brows at Robert.
"Right. How are things going with Reine?"

Robert felt the air pass by him as her swing missed, and he gave her a pitiful look. He didn't want to hit her, there was something really wrong with the idea. Nevertheless, he did as she wished, bending down with his left leg perched dramatically in front of him, toe pointed out while the batleth matched the movement. His other leg was bent, his pose looking startlingly ballerina in form, and the oncoming twirl was something best left to the stage.
Still, the batleth came crashing down with the proper force, doing it's damage.
When the slice was over, he was against her, and looked down at the girl from his overbearing height. His eyes twinkled merrily. "How about you just be my damsel in shining armor? I bet I'll need saving one day."

...Well, this wasn't what she had been expecting. For such a large fellow, Robert's movements were surprisingly...dancer-like. So poised. So graceful. So--
"OW! Geez, that thing hurts!" Of course it did, Evie--it was a sharp, pointy weapon, after all. Though her shoulder now ached, the girl was still grinning--after all, she wanted this fight to be fair. No holding back, especially because she was female!
"I don't know Robert," She teased, twirling her staff from hand to hand like a oversized baton, "Considering that attack just now? I think you'd be more than capable of saving yourself."
Chara might have grazed him mid-twirl. That had actually not been intentional.

"You're right." Robert nodded, poking Evie gently with the tip of the batleth, right under her chest. "But that don't mean I wouldn't prefer being saved by you."
A big grin plastered on his face, as he backstepped and waited for her next swing. "Things are going much better with Reine, since you asked so nicely." He finally was answering that question. "Not the same as the old days, but you know. It's more than I could ever ask for. Thanks for anything you might have said, or done, just.."
His big grin softened, and became more genuine. "Thanks."

Pffffffff. "I can try," Eva said, emitting an exaggerated sigh, "But don't expect me to princess carry you or anything. I'll probably have to grab you by the legs and drag you along." Unfortunately, despite her teasing tone, this was actually true. While she would obviously not hesitate to help a fellow trainee if she needed to, she was not the strongest girl.
She seemed satisfied by the answer, but the thanks? The thanks made Eva paused, her blue eyes widening slightly. After a second of blank staring, a small smile spread over her face. "Awwww! Really though, I can't take credit. Reine already wanted to...um...'talk'--" Air quotations, "--to you after we saw what happened to puppy."
Her smile turned a little wry as she turned the staff around so it was crystal-side up and gave Robert a rather light whack with it. "Puppy is fine now, but it scared us for a bit!"

Robert winced as he whacked her, looking sheepish. "Hey.. he asked me not to take it easy on him, just like you did! I was only doing my job.. it ain't my fault the boy can't take a hit."
That wasn't entirely the truth.. but it was close enough.
"Besides, he's okay now, ain't he? And it was a fair fight. A good one, too. Just didn't end so well for him." Robert winked. "Maybe you'll have better luck with me."

"He's fine now, yes." Eva confirmed, grinning as she thought of the grumpy teen, "Believe me--you would have heard if he wasn't fine. Not only from me, but Reine as well." The girl rose her eyebrows at this. Honestly, it was only because she thought that Robert seemed like a good person that she wasn't up in his face about what happened to their puppy. If he had been a complete a**, though, she would not have even attempted to be friendly with him.
That being said, friendly or not, it didn't stop her from dealing a surprisingly decent blow.
Okay, change to a happier topic! "Heard there's a Christmas gala coming up! Excited?"
