Bul was swift to take action after his meeting with Nox in the midst of the night. While he knew enough people in the school to start talking there had to be something quicker than a mass text or an update on Scarebook or groanspring. He also needed a tactical way to circulate a secretive message that even decoded only Halloweeners could understand. This was not going to be easy at all. He knew that and kept it in mind as he approached a dark and sealed off room in the club hallway. Rumor had it this was the place to go if she was no in the scarecade.
But who?
This snot was someone Bul had never had the displeasure of meeting so he honestly did not know what to expect other than 'she is kinda weird.' But sources said that she was the spearhead at a student newspaper... a newspaper which had yet to ever be published. Relying on someone and something so unheard of was a gamble... but maybe if he talked to her before the first issue it would get more publicity until the hype dropped? And that was really all he needed of her.
Knocking gently on the door he waited to hear a welcome but instead heard a couple of synthetic noises beeping from inside the room and suddenly a loud roar and a couple clanking noises.
"Jack what is... going on?" He lurched back at the noise until he heard a screech of dismay. Naturally his first response was to barge in with claws readied to defend whomever was in distress but halted when the ghoul whipped her head around and stared at him over her shoulder with two terrifying orbs of noise.
"WHAT??! CAAN'T YOU WORK YOU STUPID-" Was Pepin talking to Bul? Floating around the thing she peered in and saw that some bolts were rattling in the printing press. "I haven't even run a full bundle through you yet and now you're giving up on me??" she pouted.
Pepin sighed and turned the thing off for now. Unfortunately it was not made of the same electronics that the computers in the room were which were her saving grace at times. "My team isn't here today is there something you need?" she suddenly appeared at eye level with the monstrous boil.
"I don't think I've ever met you before, boil. o.o"
Well... she definitely was weirder than Bul was imagining but nothing he couldn't handle. Chuckling nervously the half beast reached back and scratched the back of his head and stepped back to give himself some space from her.
"No I dont think we've met each other before but uh.. I had a favor to ask. Sources told me that you were like.. the newspaper ghoul?" he raised a brow. She... did have a lot of newspaper clippings scattered all over the floor. It would appear if anything she was at least part of the club. (She was too young looking to be a maintenance gnome anyway. Maybe short enough but-)
That was not a good thing to bring up- Bul tried to resist envisioning the ghost as a short, stump gnome. "Yea but uh.. I kinda need your help on something and I don't know if like.. I uh.."
Before he knew it Bul was starting to wonder if he'd approached this too fast. He never met her before and as much as he trusted people this was a very dangerous operation that could be messed up with EASE. Especially if he knew Pepin for who she really was.
"ooOOoooh... a favor you say? I am good at doing favors but it might cost you. Unless... DO YOU HAVE A STORY TO CONTRIBUTE??" Pepin cooed and giggled as she whirled over to grab a clipboard as if ready to take some notes. "Come on, sit sit, make yourself comfortable stilts, we have work to do!"
Abrasive much? Pepin also forced a chair closer in Bul's direction and grinned darkly ready to hear whatever dark, secretive gossip he had to offer. Little did she know that he really did have something explicitly secret to share.
"I know that we haven't published yet but I plan to do soon asap before those pesky NEWSCLIPPINGS KEEP GETTING IN THE WAY OF OUR PARANORMAL POST!" she pouted. "We are currently working on some investigations but the story is not complete yet-" she growled and turned to a page on the clipboard flashing the headline
HALLOWEEN DAILY CONSPIRING WITH BOOGEYMEN
Bul spotted the bold letters and opened his mouth to speak; finding it hard to interrupt the charismatic ghoul. "Hey what was that? Is that what you're talking about??" he asked with great interest. Clearly she'd spoken with students that were in the know-how to have such a headline. In fact the information that he desired to share directly related to the story she was working on. Perhaps in a much more persuasive fashion.
"Look I know its weird for me to just come out of the blue like this and stuff but I'm a knob. I've been here for at least a year now and I've seen a lot of things happen that the Boogeymen are trying to hide." Now lowering his voice he gestured towards the door with his head. "Do you.. mind?" His subtle request for the door to be shut was met swiftly. Pepin did NOT like to share information about the Paranormal Post club with anyone not inside the room. Plus, a cute ginger knob was seeking her help with desperation in his eyes.
"I need you to do something really important for me when you publish the first paper. I need you to send out a message."
"A message... a message? That's what we are aaaaaaall about, lizardtoes!" Pepin smirked. The glimmer in her eyes were reminiscent of the look that Jove got... except Bul was less afraid this glitch ghoul was going to eat him and more worried she may ******** this all up.
"I usually do not share what I write or what any of my team writes to anyone outside this club... but you've come to me seeking my help~ I AM SO EXCITED!!"
Pepin gathered herself again and brushed herself off, quietly reminding herself to stay calm. "Tell me more about this secret message. Is it long? Is it scandalous? What are you going to do to the Boogeymen are you going to hack their systems?"
"What? Wait... hack what now? No no, I'm not going to attack them," Bul assured the ghoul and smiled. "Look, this is about something so much bigger. It involves the Boogeymen but it's more like.. a message for all the students. See I'm doing some research sorta and I need an outlet like your paper to get the word out. I can guarantee that if we work together I might even be able to help your post get more attention how does that sou-"
"Stop right there boil," Pepin barged in with a hand up and a sour look on her face. "You want to exploit our newspaper but for yourself? What will this message gain for me? Besides more attention for our paper. What if it makes people read it less?? HOW DO YOU EVEN KNOW what it will do??" she practically demanded of the half beast.
Glitch ghost was pretty feisty! Bul looked innocent when she attacked and sighed rubbing his temples. "Sorry no I don't mean to put it that way. See like you, I'm sorta sworn to secrecy. You know our president Riley right? Have you had a chance to meet her?"
"Oh Miss Riley, of course I have-" Pepin interjected.
"Good well you understand that this is something that she would do. If you know anything about her current condition then you'd know she'd have a hard time coming here herself. I'm gonna talk to her but this is like.. pertaining to some things that she knows about. Trust me long story short this is a really big deal and you will be doing the school a big favor. I don't know what all you know about the hunters except I doubt anyone here DOESN'T know about them anymore.." Bul took a deep breath. Even if she didn't hear he didn't have the time right now to explain.
"We're going to be taking action you see? So please? Please could you help me out?" he asked with an exasperated sigh.
For a few awkward minutes Pepin fell silent, obviously deliberating her role in this event. Of course she would do Riley a favor she was the first face to greet her at this school when she officially arrived!
"Alright."
Finally she answered and smiled with fingers rhythmically tapping the clipboard. "You've sold me. But if this blows up on Paranormal Post in a BAD WAY I will come after your tail and sell it online. Don't even think that I won't because I. WILL." The light on the monitor beside them flickered faintly and Pepin leaned dangerously close. "So... what's the message?"
There was another moment of silence. Bul actually hadn't thought about getting this far and had no idea what he wanted to write, let alone how to code it.
"Er... before I tell you... are you good at like making secret codes and messa-"
Bul was treated to the utmost unpleasant look of dissatisfaction upon a constantly datamoshing face. How did this boil ever make it to being a knob??
"Sorry.. I uh... should assume so from.. yea.. Hey, I have never even met you okay? Candlejack-" Bul snorted. "Anyway, this is what I need to ask the students. Uhm... would it be cool if I just wrote this down? I'd rather not risk any bugs. No offense."
Bul had every right to be any bit suspicious and Pepin enjoyed that she still had the upper hand here in a roundabout way. As long as he wasn't being the boss of this operation she was fine. Handing him a paper and pen she let him jot it out and took the sheet back when he'd finished deliberating what to write.
Reading it over she smirked and leaned in close again making the boil nervous. "You are very skilled at this... secret business. How in the world did you get the idea to do this anyway?" she asked curiously. If she ever had the rare opportunity to meet Nox she would definitely gush.
"That I can't tell you.." Bul said uneasily but looked to have relaxed now that he'd gotten his full point across. "But I know that having talked to you I have yet another skillset to write down for this whole thing. I have one last thing to ask of you though before I go. What's your name? Yanno in case I ever get stuck in a class with you or something," he jeered playfully.
"Pepin Molyneau. You can call me anytime stilts," she replied twisting a hand through her hair, already examining the message that he'd given and how she was going to approach coding it just right. He had the answer, all she had to do was create the puzzle right?
"Expect to see this as soon as I publish the first special for Paranormal Post. We're going to skip a whole issue for a special story that I can stick up over that ridiculous bulletin board.." Pepin looked aside scornfully at some of the Halloween Daily clippings she had stolen and poked holes in along with drawing mustaches on photographs of Boogeymen.
"Cool Pepin, I'm Bul Itches. Its good to know some people here aren't afraid to kinda.. yank some cords heh," his pun was unintended but Pepin still flickered in delight.
"Alright look I've been missing for too long now so... I'll see you later and I will be on the lookout for the newspost. Don't let us down Pepin!" He left her with an encouraging nod and slipped out of the room while she turned to the computer.
Pepin appreciated being a threat. To anyone really. Slowly she turned with the slip of paper in hand and began to get to work at the computer as it glitched and twitched unpleasantly with each of her keystrokes.
THIS IS HALLOWEEN
WHERE IT IS ALWAYS HALLOWEEN (and sometimes exams)
