Candice opened the door to her closet and smiled. It was the time of the year where she wanted to give a little bit more to the community. She knew that in her life, she got a lot more things than other people did. Plus, she spent so much money on things like cute outfits every few months, there were things that she just didn’t wear after a while.
She opened a cardboard box that was folded in her closet. Making sure the box was sturdy, she nodded in approval. “Sorry closet! It’s time to donate some things that I don’t wear anymore!”
Opening the door to her closet wide, she made sure that there was a clear path to her bed and the closet. She had decided earlier in the day that she would move close she wanted to the bed and directly fold the clothes that she didn’t want and put it in the box. Previous years, she hadn’t donated much, but this year, she hoped it would be different.
The first outfit she pulled out from her closet was her costume from this year. Candice let out a small laugh and looked at it and then draped it on herself. “Who else would want to wear this? Hehe. I think I like it enough to wear it next year…” She walked over to her bed and laid the dress out carefully; she had a problem with wrinkled clothes, which was the reason most of her clothes was hung.
She continued to pull things out of her closet. A few blouses were laid down on the bed while there was a small stack of clothes draped over the box. There were some socks that were too small, shirts that were too large, and pants that just didn’t seem like she’d wear again. Once she sorted out the clothes that were in her closet, over an hour had gone by. “Phew… I didn’t think I had accumulated that much stuff!”
Candice sat down on the floor and looked at the clothes that were drooping out of the box. If she didn’t fold them quick enough, she was sure the box would be ruined. Thinking about the stability of the box, she decided to layout the unwanted clothes on the floor. She didn’t understand why she felt so picky about it, but the clothes had to be in good condition! Even when she wore each of the outfits, she was careful about them, never knowing if she’d stumble upon the same thing again. Plus, she would never donate clothes that looked ruined. It just didn’t feel right.
Picking up one shirt, she folded. One after another, she made sure that each one was folded neatly with no wrinkles showing and stacked them neatly in the box. They each were pushed flat by her hands and by the time she was finished, the box was about half full. Standing above the box, Candice beamed at her work. It was neat as well as the fact that there seemed to be about double compared to last year!
She picked up the box and put it on the table, grunting a little bit as she walked. “It’s a little heavier than I expected… But more weight training for me! Maybe people will stop calling me a stick after this…”
Once she had gotten ready to leave, she opened her front door and lifted up the box again. She closed her door and made her way down to the street. Candice hummed to herself and walked down to the street. ”I hope someone else will enjoy these clothes…” She looked down at the box of clothes and smiled. ”I know I had a good run with them!”
