Videogames, however intriguing, have never been a part of her life. Minerva had other interest to tend to—such as reading, or writing, or planning. She had tea to brew and stamps to collect and antique furnishings to purchase.. or, at least at one time she did. The trainee grew up without a father who might have obsessed over them. She didn’t have any brothers or sisters who enjoyed playing, and while friends were interested in it; they always knew she wouldn’t be and never included her when it came to such topics.

That being said, the island they now inhabited limited them as far as extra-circular activities went. Minnie could only do so much of one thing before it got old, and switching to something else that she knew interested her might not be easily accessible. She needed to try different things, and if it meant she would sit down and watch someone else shoot guns or fight zombies or whatever.. well.. so be it.

Blythe queued in, having been sifting through the thoughts as they went along. Yeah, you know? Like.. uh, I guess you wouldn’t know. Honestly, I don’t even know the names of them I just remember seeing some commercials on TV. I don’t know.. I hear people like that stuff?

Silence.

Really, Minnie would take any kind of hobby/activity and run with it. She was more than willing to try anything at this point. It was why she decided to walk the halls of the dormitory, listening for conversations that might strike a nerve of interest within her. If nothing came to pass, there was one boy in particular that had made his videogame love known; but she didn’t know where his room was. All she COULD do was linger like a creeper near each of the open doors, hoping someone was inside.. and hoping that someone might be Deryk.

With the noticeable lack of technology he could access, Deryk felt rather antsy. He had wanted to buy something during his day out, but he didn't think he could get away with having something like that. At home, he didn't have as much time to play games but he had plenty of other tech based things to keep himself happy.

Here, he had been doing whatever he could to keep himself busy, but he couldn't help but feel that sort of crave. Hopefully he'd be able to get over it. Otherwise, his stay at the island was going to be a bit.. painful.

"Uugh.. need something to do," he groaned. He shouldn't have looked up what had come out recently while he was out. It only gnawed at that hunger. Shaking his head, he stepped out of his room. Maybe there were some duties he could sign up for right now.

She had been lingering near one of the doors for too long, ear pressed daintily against the wooden frame, jaws clenched as she tried very hard to listen in on what was being said. A male's voice grumbled in hushed tones for quite some time, perhaps a bit too masculine to be the trainee she was looking for, but still..

A male. She had hope.

But Deryk didn't come out of the room she hoped he would. Instead, he came out of the room directly beside it, towering over her forward-bent frame. Minerva didn't exactly look the part of a crazy-stalker chick, but the slow-dropping, cupped hand and the gradual lean away from the wall were incriminating nonetheless; surely Deryk would be looking her way questionably soon enough.

"Hey, Deryk right?" Side-stepping toward the center of the hall, Minnie extended a hand. "I'm not sure if you remember me, but my name is Minerva. You were in Death's containment room right? For the 'observation'?" She knew he had been there. She remembered him! But just to keep things a little less formal.. "I've been looking for you, actually! I was kind of hoping you could help me with something?"

Turning to start down the hall, Deryk came to a quick halt as he nearly walked into a girl standing there. It.. looked like she was listening to the door or something like that. Before he could ask what that was all about, she had straightened up and turned towards him with a greeting. While he had introduced himself to a number of his fellow trainees, he couldn't help but feel slightly creeped out right about now.

"Oh. Hi! Yes. I'm Deryk," he nodded, recalling Minerva in Death's interrogation room as well. She was also one of the ones that had waken up in his group, if he recalled correctly. Glancing down at the hand, he grinned and shook it.

Tooley giggled.

"You needed some help? With what exactly? Can try to help however to best of ability," he said, curious of what it was she had in mind that required him. He was... slightly wary it'd be some really weird request.

Just given the somewhat odd circumstances of their meeting here.

Ahh, yes. She could see the skepticism in his eyes, the wariness and uncertainty. While he sounded friendly enough there was definitely a hint of hesitation in his tone. Or perhaps she only heard what she wanted to hear. "I'm sorry if that looked kind of weird." Gesturing with her head toward the opposing door. "I was, uh.. well, I wasn't sure if that was your room, and I didn't want to go knocking on the wrong door! Not when I had a question for you in particular."

WHAT?! Things weren't suppose to happen like this.. I'm.. a little..

Uhh, no. Wasn't planning on it? Couldn't you see that? Blythe was surprising Minerva with all of the openness she seemed to have. The trainee had shown a lot of interest in the others at the facility! It was nice not having to battle for thinking space all of the time.

In any case, the firm handshake ended with the woman's arms drawing behind her back, straightening further as if it would grant her extra height. Which it did not. "Right!" A sweet smile pushed the ends of her lips up, curling them slightly just as well. "I heard you like video games and comic books. You do like them, don't you?" She paused for a moment, tilting her head before nodding dismissively. "Well I was hoping you wouldn't mind.. letting me read a few of those books? If you have any? Or maybe show me a video game or two if you have those on hand? I don't know what everyone was able to get on their outing, but I'm assuming since you like them so much.. "

Settling onto the flats of her feet after having rocked to and fro with every word said, Minerva waited for a response.. Having rambled on perhaps, but hopefully the gist of it would be clear.

Wait. Did a girl just ask him about comics and video games? Deryk had a bit of a double take there. While he knew it wasn't impossible it just.. wasn't something he had really faced before. Usually if a girl was into them, she'd be into them. He never actually encountered one wanting to get into these sort of things.

A part of him wondered if he had been knocked out during another training run or something and was being delirious right now.

"You.. .want to look into comics and games?" he repeated, "Well. Don't have any games unfortunately. Didn't end up buying any. Kinda sad and glad about that at same time. Ipod is having issues here. Other electronics probably would struggle too I'm thinking. Wouldn't work. But.. comics. I have a couple yes. Not sure if they'd be something of your fancy though. You like superheros?"

He paused for a moment, then tilted his head.

"What made you interested?"

Well the lack of games was sort of a bummer, but luckily the woman enjoyed a good read. So long as she understood what she was reading. Minerva's gaze softened with a wider smile, teeth showing as the awkwardness was slowly beginning to melt off of Deryk's face, replaced by.. well.. confusion. It was to be expected.

"Uhh.." She thought, tapping at her chin idly. "That kind of sucks, actually. I remember seeing a commercial for a zombie game? And.. there was one about shooting? No wait, about war! I don't know.. " Blythe hissed at the mentioning of zombies, and Minnie couldn't help but feel her face heat up in embarrassment. "But yeah, I guess I like superhero's. Like Superman right? And Spiderman?" It helped that both of those characters had made it onto the big, silver screen at one point. Otherwise she might not have been able to name a single one.

"And, well. I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out what there is to do here! I've pretty much exhausted all of my options; swim in the ocean, read all of the books, train, study, talk to people, doodle.. I enjoy all of those things a lot, but it's always nice to try something new, you know?" A pause.. "I just didn't want to go out and buy the books, read them and not understand what was going on.. I was kind of hoping I could read them with you around, just in case I had questions? Or I could just borrow them and read them back at my room, and then ask whatever I need to when I return them. Which ever way is easiest for you."

Minnie quieted for a long moment, eyes never moving for Deryk's.. mostly because she was thinking. Hard. "OH! And isn't Wolverine a superhero?!" She had no idea..

War game.. Maybe she was thinking of something like Call of Duty. As for zombies it could have been a number of things. Perhaps Left 4 Dead. Oh man, he could go for a round of that right now. Whining mentally at the loss, he nodded at her explanation. Well, at the very least she had some grasp of what he was talking about with super heroes. He didn't have Superman or Spiderman, however.

"Makes sense, yes. Doesn't hurt to try expanding horizons. Though, sometimes can be hard to get into comics without starting from beginning. At least at the start of a story arc. Not many are episodic. Luckily the ones I have are compiled into larger books. All in one place," he murmured thinking. "I don't have many though. Maybe another trainee around has some more. Can't be the only one around here who likes these things."

Thinking, he soon paused as she mentioned Wolverine.

"Yes. Wolverine. One of the X-Men. Marvel Comics," he nodded before glancing back into his room.

"Well uh then. Come on in? You can take pick of what you want to read. Have a couple different things."

"Exactly. I'm expanding my horizons!" She crossed her arms with a matter-of-factly nod, lips pursed before continuing. "Luckily I pick up on things pretty quickly, but it'll be nice to get the whole story all at once. Compilations; they're the best!" As for his follow-up comment, the one about other trainee's, Minnie offered a partial shrug and a mumbled "Eh..".

"I'm sure there are, but I figured since I knew you were into this kind of stuff FOR SURE I would drop by to see if you were interested!" Hatchlings had to stay together, right? "Which I'm guessing you are??" But by the time she had said it, he was already inviting her inside.

Before thanking him and entering the room, Minnie couldn't help but widen her smile subtly, a mouthed 'yes' done just as she tilted her head down; face hidden behind golden bangs. Wolverine was a superhero! She got it right! Success!

Taking only a few steps in, she gave the room a once over until her eyes met with a collection of books he had, casually pointing a finger toward them. "Are those them?" Minerva didn't move, waiting for him to follow in suit after her. "Which would you suggest a novice like myself read first?"

Stepping into his room, Deryk took a moment to look towards the books before Minerva managed to spot them on her own.

"Yep! Those are it. And lesse here..." he murmured while making his way over and spreading the books out onto his bed, looking them over. It was a good question for what would be good for the other trainee to start off with.

"Hmm.. Maybe one of these two?" he said while grabbing two books, "This one here is actually a manga. Japanese graphic novel. Don't read those as much but pick one up now and then. Besides, this one is a classic. You might have heard of the anime. Couldn't watch that here but this is the next best thing I guess. Cowboy Bebop. Takes place in the future about a group of bounty hunters."

He paused for a moment, then looked at the second book.

"And this is one volume of the X-Men. Wolverine shows up a bit around here. Figure since you kinda know him and his group already might not be a bad start either."

"Anime?" Minnie questioned as she stood beside Deryk and leaned over his collection. "I've never heard of it, but cowboys are cool! And if they're futuristic bounty hunter cowboys, then I'm sure it'll be an interesting read!" Minerva wasn't sure if she fully agreed with that statement, but then again she had never read anything remotely close to it..

The second proposed book seemed to spark a more genuine reaction out of her, although if Deryk could even tell the trainee would be thoroughly impressed. "Yeah! It might be a little easier for me to get into actually! I already know some of the other characters like, uhm let me think.. Halle Barry played her.. Storm? Anyway, I might take that one if you don't mind?" But a secondary thought prompted her to continue. "You know, actually I might just read both of them! It isn't like I'll have anything better to do after I finish the first.. well, except come back to see if you have any others worth suggesting! Plus, I do like a challenge!"

"Well they aren't literal cowboys. Name probably comes more from the fact that they're bounty hunters. Something like that." Deryk nodded before tilting his head as Minerva seemed to be really interested in the X-men book. Grinning in return, he nodded before handing them both over.

"Yep! Storm's in here too. And Xavier of course. Anyway, here you go. Hope you enjoy them. Though, I have to wonder how often we're allowed to go back to buy stuff. You know? Dunno if it's just like a once a year type of deal," he mused, "But the few books I have here should last a little while at least!"

The trainee may have flustered pink at assuming that the Bebops were legit cow wrangling, horse riding, ten gallon hat wearing cowboys; but the color faded just as soon as Deryk handed her the books. He was right, they didn't look anything like cowboys.. the art was kind of nice though, and the boys on the cover were clad in some awesome wears! At least she was more acquainted with the X-Men crew, shifting the two around so that it was on the top.

"Yeah! But I bet this was a one time deal, or a yearly thing. I'd love to get more time outside of this place but I'm sure there'll be more missions than we can count to keep us busy." Minerva slid further toward his bed, sitting at the very edge with her hands draping over the two books on her thighs. Now that she was inside with the other trainee she wasn't exactly ready to leave, not when the boy offered a better distraction than she could have hoped for! Even if she had exactly what she had 'originally' come for, Minnie rested in her seat with hopes that the other wouldn't mind. "Sooo, where did you come from? I'm of New York blood myself, born and raised and all of that good stuff. I kind of miss it every now and then, but I can't say this new lifestyle isn't an interesting change of pace."

"Yeah. You have good point there. Would be nice if we were let out a little more often though. You know?" he agreed. Deryk watched as Minerva went to sit onto the bed and went on to do the same for now. He looked at the other comics he had for the moment.

"New York? Nice! Went there once. Pretty cool city. Me, I'm from LA. Other coast. And yeah. Know what you mean. This life is just so different from what I left behind. Definitely different. But.. kinda get the feeling that we're doing something good here. Fighting the baddies and stuff like that. But yeah.. miss the tech and stuff. Bummed that stuff like that doesn't really work here," he frowned.

Maybe at some point they'd find some work around for that. Hunter technology was interesting and all but he couldn't really mess around with them.

"Oh yeah I definitely agree." And she did! Minnie was one to work herself to the bone, and within the confines of this facility, where the majority of their tasks were to do just that; the trainee would more than likely find herself burning out. They would need breaks from saving the world. That much she was certain of.

The likelihood of it all was slim, of course.

She then listened and nodded, shrugging her shoulders once he turned his lips downward into a frown. "I know, I miss a lot about the city myself. Not the forty hour work days or the crime, but the leisure time I had to myself without worrying about what kind of mission I would be going on within the next hour, and whether or not I would lose a limb out there on the battle field." Minnie couldn't help but let out a laugh. It was crazy just how quickly her life had changed! "I KNOW we're doing something good out here! I mean.. We were the fortunate and the unfortunate ones who got to see the darkness. Now we can protect the world from all of that." What a big responsibility..

Then, the trainee paused to looked down at books. "I can't say I'm not bummed about the game stuff though! I was really looking forward to learning and watching since I've never really had enough time to go out to the theaters back home. And since we don't have DVD players out here, at least I don't think we do?.. Watching a game would be a wonderful substitute!" Probably a little easier to get into as well, at least when compared with comics.
