It was one of those odd afternoons that Edel wasn't spending in the demon dorms. With the school play coming up and Roch's request for her violin playing, the ghoul had taken to cooping herself up in the music room for a few hours every day practicing those scores. Luckily it was only for one or two songs, otherwise the ghoul would have pretty much given in to pressure overload.

It also seemed that Edel wasn't the only one Roch had asked for assistance for the play.

While Rikki usually did any drum playing and practicing in his dorm on his own set, he'd left most of his sticks in the music club room. It wouldn't have been a problem, normally, except he'd been playing more than usual lately so he could think, and that meant more than one pair had splintered and broken. Why did the enchanted sticks have to be so jacking expensive?

He shoved his hand through his messy hair as he entered the room, but stopped in his tracks. "Oh..." he breathed, caught off-guard by finding someone else in the room. She looked familiar, and he knew it was from music club, but his memory refused to supply a name. Giving a wide, charming smile, hoping to bypass any awkwardness he'd caused, he chuckled. "Sorry if I'm interrupting. Just came to get my sticks."

The ghoul was a little more surprised than she should be when she spotted the reaper entering the music room. Well, it was a public facility after all. So much for private practicing, but alas she couldn't do any of her violin practice in her room as it was too cold. Well, not for her, but for the instrument at least.

No, uhm, don't worry about it.
So he was a drummer. He did look a little familiar. Edel furrowed her eyebrows a little, trying to recall. But likewise, no names came to her.

Are you from the Music Club perhaps?” she asked. No harm introducing herself to a fellow club member or at worst, a fellow schoolmate right?

He was relieved to realize that his hunch had probably been right. She'd been in music club, and not only that but she was having trouble remembering who he was too. That made him feel less like a douche. "Yeah, I am. I'm Nyyrikki, though everyone calls me Rikki."

He walked behind the drum set in the corner of the room and successfully located a nearly full package of sticks he'd bought a couple weeks ago. At the rate and intensity he'd been playing lately, they wouldn't last long. "You're in the club too, yeah?" He glanced at her instrument, glad he at least knew what it was. "Violin? Strings are difficult."

Edel's eyes grew very wide as soon as the boil introduced himself. “Oh, so you're Rikki!” And then upon realising that she probably didn't make much sense, she nodded her head apologetically and clarified. “Roch had mentioned that he would be getting you in for the music for the school play.” Sudden epiphany much?

Yes I am, my name is Edel and uh-” the ghoul glanced down at the violin quickly, “- yea, they require quite a bit of practice,” she finished sheepishly. A Really Great Idea suddenly crossed her mind – if they were both going to play for the school play, why not practice together?

Uhm, you are going to play the drums for the play right?” Edel prodded herself with the violin bow absentmindedly. “Would you like to practice together?” It was a wild suggestion, since some musicians did most of their practice alone at times. Edel wasn't sure if Rikki was one of those types.

He'd been mildly surprised at her reaction to his name, but soon had a similar reaction to hers. He nearly choked as she introduced herself, and ran a hand down his face roughly. "Jack me. The Edel?" Oh man. Danny practically spat this girls name every time she talked about her.

"Yeah," he nodded in response to her question. "Roch called and sort of demanded that I do the drums, then hung up and emailed me the music. Not a whole lot of ways to back out of something like that," he laughed, sounding less irritated and more glad that he'd been approached for the position. "I'd be down to practice. Doesn't hurt to get together and know what it'll sound like in the end." He settled behind the drum set, adjusting the stool and the position of a few of the pieces. He tapped out a few short, simple beats, and then grinned up at her. "It's always weird to play someone else's set."

The frost demon's face fell when she heard what Rikki had to say. “Jack me, The Edel?

WHAT COULD THAT POSSIBLY MEAN?!

The ghoul had a moment of panic as she tried to recall if she had offended anyone before to deserve such apparent notoriety. Was she a subject of gossip now? But she hadn't done anything bad bad had she -

The Edel?” she asked, her tone wavering.

The frost demon simply blinked as Rikki confirmed that he was in on the school play and also obliged to practice together. She continued to watch as he tapped out a few beats – he was quite good at the drums! The ghoul grinned back at Rikki. At least he was being nice. “Do you mind?” she asked, hoping that she wasn't making him uncomfortable or anything.

Oh, and do you need the scores too?” she asked, glancing back at those that sat on the stand in front of her. It was quite silly of her to ask for him to practice together without their own set of scores in hindsight, but the ghoul couldn't back out of it now. Also, she was somewhat confident of playing the piece, having practiced it for quite some time.

His expression turned contemplative as he considered how to explain himself. His lip pouted out for a fraction of a second before he answered her. "Danny's one of my best friends. It can't be a secret that you don't give her the warm fuzzies, yeah?" He felt the need to console her though, knowing he'd hurt her feelings on some level. "Danny's pretty polar though. She either likes you, or she doesn't want to be in the same room as you. I'll reserve judgement," a friendly wink served to indicate that he wasn't going to jump to conclusions about the demoness before him.

"Nah, I don't mind. I'll probably be playing this set in the play anyways. It's difficult to move mine in and out of my dorm," he shrugged his shoulders, genuinely looking as if it didn't matter to him, and took out his eye phone. A few flicks of stained fingers across the screen, and then he shook his head. "Nope, I've got them here on my phone, saved in my email. I know them pretty well, though." The grim propped his phone up on a nearby table so he could see it if he needed.

Well that figures. Edel pretty much wore a ._. expression upon hearing how Rikki was related to Danny. “I see,” she said, nodding her head in resignation, “And I'll thank you for that,” flashing a grin back at Rikki. The frost demon wondered how Danny had such nice friends then she recalled what Rikki had just said. Edel never quite understood Danny's problem with her, all this while she had assumed it was something to do with their natural dispositions – fire and ice just don't mix. She also began to recall the incident with Danny and Moure, which left her with the conclusion that the flame demon also did not like her mixing with her friends.

Well. Nothing she can do about that.

Edel peered over curiously to see what the reaper was doing. So he had his scores on that fancy electronic gadget! How convenient, she could possibly also invest in one of those things.

The ghoul nodded and struck a up a few notes to warm up again before they began. Pulling the stand over, Edel positioned it so that they could face each other while they played. It was a wordless signal, but the reaper would have caught it. On the count of three the frost demon had begun to play.

Rikki peeled off his hoodie to leave himself in just his t-shirt as she finished prepared herself, and took a deep breath. This was his domain, what he'd taken up as a stress reliever. It was a world he melded seamlessly into.

As she gave the signal he gave a savage smile and began playing. The drums made the score much heavier than it had originally been, and Rikki appreciated it. Roch had done well and given the music an edge it had lacked. However, the strength and beauty of the notes coming from Edel's violin served to effectively floor him.

Drums and violin. A combination he'd never considered, but might come to favor.

He stumbled over a beat and bite out a curse, but kept playing, not willing to let the screw up ruin the entire song.

Likewise, the ghoul found herself enthralled with what Rikki was doing with the drums - drums that weren't even his preferred ones. The percussion really gave an edge to the music, something different from the timpani. As for how they sounded, it was really quite amazing. Edel could only imagine how they would sound with the full accompaniment - Roch seriously had some wicked vision with music.

Edel lagged a beat when Rikki missed his, recovering quickly and giving the boil a smile. In his defense, she had gone sharp on a few notes too. As they neared the end of the song the ghoul had already burst into a wide grin. She couldnt remember the last time she had so much fun playing music.

Nyyrikki laughed aloud as the song ended and rubbed his arms, which were starting to protest the unusual amount of work they'd been doing over the past couple days. It was the good kind of protesting though, the kind that burned and made you feel like you'd done something worth while. He crossed his sticks over his legs and blew out a breath.

"That was pretty damn cool. I think Roch might actually know what he's doing with this," he joked. Really, the younger grim was talented, and Rikki had a deep respect for that. It wasn't often that such talent was paired with the pure love of music. He'd play anything Roch told him to. Especially when it would come together with other instruments like this, because drums sounded amazing on their own, but pair them with anything else and it could be mind blowing.

Edel took in a few deep breaths as song ended, feeling some sort if adrenaline rush that she never got from playing any other piece. Perhaps it was because the song was more up tempo? The ghoul smiled widely back at Rikki - it seemed like he had enjoyed playing as much as she did too.

"Indeed, Roch has quite a ear for music. This rearrangement - fantastic!" There were only so many ways the ghoul could describe Roch's talent. It was one of the many reasons he deserved to be club president after all. For Edel, she had just witnessed that today.

"I guess I'll see you at the rehearsals and at the play?" she asked, packing up her score sheets and putting her violin back into the case. That practice had been a thorough workout, and that was, the frost demon decided, quite enough for the day.

"It's been nice meeting you Rikki!" she said, extending her arm out for a sort of good job handshake for the both of them.

Taking her packing as the cue that their practicing was over, he got up and stretched, throwing his hands over his head in a long, lazy gesture. When the throb in his limbs felt less intense he tucked the sticks he'd been using securely in his waistband and returned her handshake. "I'll definitely be there. It's been good meeting you, too."

He watched her leave, feeling good about what he'd accomplished today. He'd met another musician, found out what he needed to work on with the scores for the play, and managed to not get in a fight with someone Danny hated.

.... :'D

He put on his hoodie, picked up the rest of his sticks, and trotted back to his dorm to work out the kinks in his drumming.
