For the second time, Reine had woken up in the infirmary with Jordan beside her. She was hoping it wouldn't become some sort of trend- the point of training was to be able to take care of yourself- and make yourself stronger- wasn't it?

With this in mind, Reine slunk out of her room after days of recuperation. She had mostly healed up, and this time, she wasn't going to ask Jordan along, even if she was slightly afraid of bleeding to death on her own or the like. There had been trained hunters on watch at the Miss Taken Tower, at least.. that was a relief, wasn't it? Reine was loathe to try the same training course again, after what had happened; she didn't need new burns on her arms.

Perhaps a different one. Whatever it was, she knew she needed the practice.. Jordan wouldn't always be around to pick her up. Blushing slightly at the thought, she looked around, trying to distract herself by figuring out which course to run.

The last training course he tried didn't turn out too well. But perhaps that was because it was for the Sun Hunters who were supposed to be better at fighting off things or something like that. Deryk wondered if he should try out the course that was geared towards his own division. Perhaps he would have an easier time with it.

There was only one way to find out.

Making his way towards the designated area, the blonde noticed one other trainee standing about, looking a bit lost. He recognized her as being one of the ones that woke up in his group but he didn't really know her past that. Not being in too much of a hurry, he paused over by her.

"Oh hey. You ok? Look a little lost. Possibly confused," he said with a tilt of his head.

"Hmm?" Reine turned around, looking somewhat spacey. "Oh! Nah, I'm good- just can't decide which one to go for, y'know? Just felt like I had to train a bit, or just toughen myself up in general.." She didn't have much of an impression on this guy, but he did look vaguely familiar, and he seemed pretty nice.

"How about you? Got any recommendations?" The life trainee turned over to him, smiling. "Reine Walker, by the way. Nice to meet you!"

"Yes. Know the feeling myself. Didn't do too well in last mission. Need to improve," Deryk nodded in understanding. Toughening up was definitely something he needed to do. He still wasn't really used to getting hurt. Or running around a lot.

"Hm. Was gonna go to the death course myself right now. Only tried Sun so far. Didn't do too well. Taken out in the third round. Attempting something different this time," he replied before smiling back to Reine, "Bond. Deryk Bond at your service. Perhaps if you still are trying to decide, you could try deathsweeper with me?"

"Yeah!" Reine beamed at him, nodding emphatically. It wasn't just the last mission.. or the one before, after all, the missions up to now could pretty much have been considered successes, and the halloweeners were probably the last thing on her mind right now.

"Death course, huh?" She chewed her lip, then smiled wryly. "Yeah, I didn't do too well with Mist, either- Death sounds pretty good! Not completely sure what it's about, but heh, can't be too bad, can it?"

Heh heh heh. Reine didn't sound too convinced herself, but what didn't kill you made you stronger, didn't it? She giggled a little at the introduction, then clumsily attempted a curtsey. Robert was the dancer, not her.

"I'd be glad to." Now, hopefully this other guy wouldn't end up carrying her out of the arena- or vice versa. He didn't look very portable.

"Alright! Let's go."

Preparations for the deathsweeper course was not quite what Deryk expected. They had to get into golems. This... worried him a bit. If they needed to get into the golems, it likely meant that the training course was even more dangerous than the shadow run was. At the same time, it likely meant he wouldn't come out bruised up like in his previous run.

Then again, with a name like deathsweeper, he could only imagine why.

Once he was suited up, he stood at the edge of the field.

"Well. Good luck to you Reine. Let's see if we can get through this yes?"

Taking in a deep breath, he looked around before picking out a spot to step onto. He flinched as he did so, expecting to blow up or something like that. He didn't. In fact. Nothing happened!

"Oh hey. I'm in one piece. Yay! Didn't die in first step. Good start. Yes."

"Sure!" She followed after him happily, excited to see what the training course would be like. When they entered, though, Reine cringed visibly- not.. not pods, again? At least golems would mean that she wouldn't sustain physical injuries, and that at least she was a little grateful for.

"Good luck to you too, Deryk!" Flashing him a somewhat wobbly grin, Reine steeled herself and jumped into the pod, letting it close around her.

Like waffles. Waffles. They were her kindred spirits...

Distracted by the thought, Reine stepped onto a square, then tripped and fell over onto the one next to it. Which was lucky, because she barely managed to escape the column of flame from the one she'd stepped on first.

"Oh god," she groaned. "So this is why we need golems..."

Deryk suddenly felt a blast of heat from behind. Jumping, he turned around and stared with wide eyes as Reine narrowly was barbequed on the spot!

"Y-Yeah... Well then. Also explains.. name of the course. Deathsweeper. On a minefield.. more or less," he said nervously while looking around. Ok. Take it easy. He could do this. Shifting in his spot for a bit, he looked around while trying to see where to go next. He picked a step and made his move, cringing as he did so.

Nothing happened once more.

"I'm fine, I'm fine! Thank god- er, Dr. H for the golems, huh?"

Reine was actually more than just a little shaken; parts of her jacket had been singed, and even if the flame hadn't exactly barbecued her, she could feel the heat from the adjacent square. This might be how chickens felt while they were being roasted, but at least they'd been killed before being shoved in the oven.

Scrabbling around on her square, Reine took a deep breath, before sitting up and surveying her surroundings. There would be more traps, Reine was more than certain of that, and considering her last stroke of luck in escaping the fire, she didn't think she could expect another close shave.

"Man, all these tiles look the same..." There was a one out of two chance that any tile she stepped on would have a trap on it- it wasn't even like a multiple choice question, where you could sort of at least derive the correct answer by logic or elimination. Tentatively, Reine stepped onto the square on the right, inching over to it slowly and carefully instead of just jumping right on it.

It seemed safe. With a sigh of relief, Reine placed her other foot on the tile, and promptly fell; it was as if the tile had just disappeared right from under her feet. Screaming and flailing, Reine was suddenly aware that it was getting hotter-- and hotter- wait, she'd just avoided fire, and now..

Splash.

It was agonising, the boiling water all around her; even as she kicked and screamed, trying to grab onto the sides at least, and clinging on to the hope that maybe she could climb out. The pain seared through her- heh heh, sear.. she had the almost.. surreal, realisation that she was cooking, being boiled alive. After what felt like an eternity the screams quieted down, punctuated by sobbing sounds, until Reine felt the pain ebbing away slowly; she almost felt.. sleepy.

Even as the golem's eyes closed, Reine Walker jerked awake, falling out of the pod and onto the ground.

It felt so cool.. She wanted to sleep here forever.

Reine was right. All the tiles did look the same. Anxiously, Deryk watched as she went to make her move. One moment she was there.. and the next moment she was gone. Fallen through a hole in the ground. Some time later, he heard a splash, in which he heard screams following.

"R-REINE!" he cried out, now a little horrified about all of this.

"Ohmanohmanohmanohman. Not good not good not good," he whined, feeling a sort of sick sensation as the screaming and splashing stopped. He just had to remind himself that Reine didn't really just die right now. She was in a golem. She was fine.

Right.

Next step. Closing his eyes, he picked a panel and made his move. Nothing happened.

Ok. Deryk hadn't had any close brushes with death just yet, but he didn't feel like he could relax. He did take a few moments to try and calm himself down though. He was in no rush here. No rush. No rush.

"Ok. Next move. Next move. I can do this. Yeah. No sweat. Not a big deal. Nope."

Looking around him, he hesitated briefly, then took the next step. Safe.

Ok, now Deryk was getting really nervous about the floorboard. He hadn't triggered any traps just yet. Fidgeting, he looked around him, then planted a flag in the space directly in front to see if it was safe. The moment he did this, a large drill suddenly erupted from the ground going straight into the ceiling.

"AAAAAAHHHH!" he cried out, falling back. Oh god he was bleeding now. Or rather, the golem was. Coughing, he stayed there for a while, unable to move with the massive pain he felt. The drill had mutilated his right arm and a part of his torso too.

"whatthehellmanthisisreallymesseduppp," he whined.

On the plus side, he now had finished the course more or less.

Slowly, he pushed himself to his feet, trying to not deal with the pain right now. Deryk stumbled on into the next spot. Wait, what were those weird holes in the ground for? Oh s**t. He tried to get out of the way, to move back to the safe spot, but his injuries made it practically impossible to do so.

Acid began to spray up at him. While he avoided a good bulk of it, he didn't avoid it all. The acid that had hit him, ate away at his flesh, causing him to scream and writhe in pain. Between that and his previous wounds, he just couldn't take any more.

He woke up in the pod, drenched in cold sweat, shaking from the experience. Deryk could almost still feel lingering bits of agony.

Reine stirred when she heard sounds- oh, Deryk was done with his run, then? The trainee felt slightly bad that she'd spent the better part of what was supposed to be their Attempt To Finally Finish A Training Course napping on the floor, but at least the burning sensations were mostly gone.

Stretching, Reine picked herself up off the ground. Perhaps sometime she'd try this one again.. Walking over to Deryk's pod, she tapped it lightly.

"You okay in there?"

Deryk didn't exit just yet, feeling rather unnerved at the moment. His death at Amityville didn't bother him too much since it had been quick. That wasn't quite the case for this one. Even his death during the trials was faster than that had been.

When he heard a tap and then Reine's voice all of the sudden, he jumped a bit.

"Uh. Yeah. Just. Need a moment. Slow death. Not pleasant," he murmured while closing his eyes.
