People often considered Wilson’s penchant for walking backwards to be unusual. He couldn’t disagree—how many other people walked backwards as often as he did? It was a funny quirk that had been born from the simple desire to fully face a person while talking and walking at the same time. Perfecting it had taken some time, but now it was a fairly easy task to accomplish. Usually he walked forward, just like everyone else, but the vastness of the island tempted the trainee to revert to his habit more often. While there were no cameras—the thought of a security guard rewinding the film to see someone walking forward amused him—there were also much fewer people to bump into.
He hummed a Christmas tune to himself as he strolled backwards, heading for the kitchen. While Wilson recalled the peculiar effects of the cookie lady’s cookies, they were simply too delectable to pass up for the rest of his life. Plus it was holiday season, which clearly called for delicious cookies, questionable or not.
Per usual, Wilson glanced back briefly. Blond trainee crossing his path. Normal—HEY WAIT. He stopped just a foot away from him while Wilson awkwardly laughed and apologized. “Ahaha…Sorry about that! Didn’t see you, obviously. Usually that’s not a problem…” Gradually, he began to realize he had seen this guy before. After the mission to Halloween, hadn’t he been the one with the girl in his lap? [I have a wonderful impression of this guy already.]

Among the things that wouldn't go unnoticed (which, so far, his list consisted of pretty girls, rainbows and Caelius, along with a couple other things), watching someone walking backwards was now in the ranks. Normally he would have stopped or moved side or both, but curiousity had him and he continued walking down the hallway, wondering when the other trainee would stop and notice him.
Did the thought that he could get bowled over cross his mind? It did. Did that change anything? It did not.
Luckily it wasn't a problem as the trainee caught sight of him and paused, enough to make the Sun trainee stop as well, burying his hands into his pant pockets. The nameless face was giving a cheerful smile and a curious stare from golden eyes. "Naw, man, s'cool. Were you...walking backwards?" A pale brow raised, though he knew the answer, he just wanted to hear it outloud. Or, you know, pretend he hadn't noticed a while ago. "...Usually? So you do this a lot?"

He laughed uneasily at the sun trainee’s questions. “Uh. Yeah, I was, and yeah, it is. It’s a habit of mine.” Wilson shrugged. A moment later he figured it was necessary to elaborate on that last bit. “I like talking with people face-to-face instead of side-by-side so I walk backwards.” The words sounded familiar, and he quickly realized that he had said something similar to the other trainee during the lecture with Dr. H. Minerva, was it? Perhaps Wilson would have to seek her out later. “I’ve been asleep for a while so I’m a bit rusty at it.” A pained smile. Before this whole hunter business, Wilson had been pretty good at evading people while backwards walking.
“I’m Wilson by the way, and sorry—again. Haha. Um. You are?”

Well, that was sound logic. Jeremy couldn't really argue it; he'd never thought of that either, really. "Huh. That's good logic buddy!" He complimented, pondering over something as he dug into his pockets. "You know, walking backwards is good for your legs. Works muscles there...which was probably why an old african tribe did nothing but walk backwards!" He held up his finger matter-of-factly, smiling as if he believed everything he was saying; the last half was a lie, probably. But he certainly tried to be convincing!
"Jeremy." He held out his hand for the man to shake. "Welcome to the island, belatedly. How ya liking it so far?" He moved like he wanted to start walking again, and in fact would likely leave Wilson in his dust if he stayed still.

His eyes lit up at the compliment. “Really? Thanks!” Back at home most people just opted to throw Wilson weird looks before mutely nodding their heads and playing along with him, pretending to understand his logic. It had really made him feel like he was a bit whacked up in the head, but now he had found at least two people who understood his thinking! It was like a pleasant Christmas present. Perhaps the holidays would arrive early this year.
Wilson’s expression quickly turned dubious. “I can believe the first part, but I find it difficult to believe that there’s an entire African tribe that walk backwards.” However it would have been nice if this tidbit was actually true—perhaps he was secretly African and his mother had never told him because he looked so pale. Or maybe he had a really old ancestor that traced back to that tribe. That would be nice.
“Jeremy. Got it.” He nodded. “Oh, thanks! Uh, well, it’s better than sleeping in that pod.” Uneasy laughter. “First mission was horrible.” Wilson shook his head and shuddered as he recalled unpleasant memories. Then he noticed Jeremy’s movements and motioned for him to move. He would follow. “Cookies are tasty though.”
