Infinite Spark: A Superhero Roleplay - Rules and OOC The Intro:It happened in a flash, literally. It was a cosmic event the likes of which humanity had never seen before. For several minutes, the atmosphere around the planet Earth came alive with incandescent light, visible even in broad daylight. As the world ceased its activity to gaze up into the heavens, the light pulsed, and rained down upon the planet a shower of shimming sparks of light. These lights fell upon living being upon the planet, absorbing into plants, animals and people alike.
And just as quickly as it came, the light above vanished, leaving humanity in an awestruck stupor. Though there was fear present, fear of the unknown, the world merely sat and wondered: what had just happened? What was source that light and the glowing particles that now rested within them? What did it all mean?
Answers would come in the following month.
It started with little things. Someone surviving a car accident unscathed, with the vehicle totaled. A woman screaming about ‘impending doom’, evacuating her apartment building just before it went up in flames due to an unknown gas leak. Strange accidents happening around everywhere, with unexplainable circumstances and causes. People vanishing without a trace, things going bump in the night…it was only a matter of time before someone caught on to what was happening. His name was Nathaniel Graves, the world’s leading roboticist and CEO of Hyperion Industries, and in a major press conference televised all over the world, Graves confirmed the truth that had slowly be showing itself.
People all over the world, a small percentage of humanity, were emerging with untold abilities. They were gaining superpowers. Flight, super strength, psychic abilities, shape-shifting, spiritual arts, even magic…whatever the nature of their powers, these ‘Sparks’ as they came to be called, were bringing the pages of comic books to life.
It was inevitable that there was a period of panic and fear concerning Sparks and the cosmic event that caused them, dubbed the ‘Spark Wave’. It’s understandable, when face with the fact that the person living next to you could potentially kill you with their brain. However, in the six years that followed the Wave, humanity came to cope. Spark prejudice is next to non-existent, and any designs for a ‘Spark Registration Act’ are understood to be futile and quite frankly stupid. Championed by Graves – and his alter ego Arsenal, the power armored hero created through his gift of super-intelligence – the Sparks were able to lives as normally as possible.

The Story: Quantum City. A metropolis to end all metropolises. A thriving city, with a population rivaling that New York. Home of the Hyperion Industries HQ, and known as the ‘The Super Capitol of the World’, unofficially housing one of the highest concentration of Sparks in one area. If something is going on in the news about a Spark-related incident, you can bet nine-times out of ten that it’ll have happened in Quantum.
Of course, the people Quantum don’t have much to worry about, not with Arsenal keeping a watchful eye over everyone. And that doesn’t even touch the superhero scene. However, contrary to popular conceit, a world with superpowers doesn’t instantly equally a world filled with vigilantes and criminal masterminds. The number of known masks in the world is surprisingly low, but those that do choose to fight the never-ending fight of good versus evil certainly don’t like the flair of their fictional counterparts.
Arsenal usually keeps a tight leash on the other masks, making sure that collateral damage is kept at a minimum. However, things have been heating up in the streets of Quantum. Fighting between the two most notable groups – the vigilante Infinity Corps and the criminal gang Pariah – has been ramping, and more and more Sparks are getting drawn into the fray. And little do the populace of Quantum know, the impeding showdown between the two groups will serve as a catalyst for something with the potential to be devastating.
Nathan Graves, in his study of Sparks and the Wave that granted them powers, has stumbled on something most vital: that somewhere, out there in the streets of Quantum, there's a Spark with the ability to grant powers, or take them away. And as these things go, it's only a matter of time before this knowledge is no longer a secret...

The Rules:
1. Understand and Obey the Rules & ToS You should know this already.
2. If you Join This Roleplay, Commit Too many times have my RPs died before they got anywhere. This is meant to be a long term roleplay that will hopefully reach a fine conclusion. If you put in the effort to create a character, try sticking around.
3. More Stuff You Should Know Already Romance is welcomed, but make it believable. People don't find true love in one day, though they can very much be utterly infatuated from the get go. And if it gets hot and heavy, spare the details.
Fighting is expected. It's superheroes, after all. You know the spiel here: no god-modding, auto-hits, or one-shots. Make the fights real. Take a punch or five. No one wins, and no one always leaves a fight safely...if at all. That being said, keep the gore to a bare minimum. Profanity, too.
4. When it Comes to Powers: Be Creative, but Keep It Simple When it comes to a Spark's abilities, the possibilities are endless, and everything is fair game; the Spark Wave simply enabled the potential for gaining powers. However they come to be and what they are is up to you. They can be the typical flying brick, or their power could be relatively useless unless you want them at your next party. However, don't go overboard with it. Having hundreds of awesome powers is out of the question. And the less you have to explain about your powers' mechanics, the easier they'll be to deal with. What's more, everyone has a weakness. It can be something like a time limit, loss of power under a given condition, or something as simple as a well placed bullet. But otherwise.
5. My Superpower: Control of This Game Any and all complaints, questions, and suggestions should be thrown my way - either in the OOC or PMs if its more personal - before anything happens in the roleplay. Keep it civil, we're just here to have fun. Any of these rules are subject to change, though I think I've covered everything. I want to keep things moving in here, so make sure to pay attention and try not to get left behind. Break any of my rules or guidelines badly enough, and expect your character to meet an untimely end, without a change of revival; we may be playing in a comic book world, but Marvel and DC this is not.

Guh! Interested! Definitely interested! *checks status of other rps* Hmmmm... I'm already in a lot... Well, school's almost over, so why not? Expect a profile from me! Oh! and question. In the plot you talked about the ability to grant powers and take them away... Could I use the ability to steal powers? I dunno what plans you have for the other two... but yeah, thought I'd ask.

I hadn't ever thought about this problem.
The Spark that has the ability to give and take powers is special, in that she can awaken powers in people that aren't supposed to have them. And of course, take away the powers of others, leaving them normal. In that, she's supposed to be special.
If you do wanna use the power, it'd be more 'borrowing' than stealing. As in, your character's power is to use that of those within, though at a severely weakened level, and it wouldn't deprive another character of their strength.

Yeah, that'd be fine. Mainly what I meant by stealing was that the original user would be deprived of it for, say, a day or so, before it returned to them, and my character would be able to use it at a normal rate, but some side effect to it, like it saps his/her strength, or life-force, or something like that.

Yeah, I figured something like that. Dunno about the loss of power for the other person, doubt people would like their characters not being able to fly around. Though, I'm sure it wouldn't be a big deal.
I like my idea better a little better, partially cuz it's mine (lol!), but also cuz it'd allow your character to still be viable should they need to fight, without putting another super in danger or anything.
....Yeah, I think a little too much about how things work in this RP. xD

It remind me of rogue...like she could only keep the powers forever if she killed the person. Otherwise they'd be temporary and she only makes them weak but when they wake up or whatever then they have the power still even if she is still using it. I don't really remember the specifics but whatever.
Then there is this other story I read that has a steal ability and later learns how to give stolen abilities to others. But it's in the form of a marble. Like if she steals the ability of fire it might form into a reddish ball. Then she can give it to another person and they can use it for a certain period of time but it depends on how often they use it and such. Also, they have to be compatible to use it...otherwise their body won't except the power. She can also give people multiple powers. Even though she steals these powers from others...it's not always that she takes it away completely...it depends I think on if they are using the ability. For instance...if some guy has the power to spread a deadly disease by touching someone...if he touches her and then she tries to save herself...then the power will turn into a stone but he'd still have it. But if she completely steals it then it's gone forever unless she gives it back...
Anyway, the talk reminded me of that.
Rhea trying to steal the important/special role. Pffthahahaaa
It sounds interesting. ^_^

That's right. Rouge steal a proportionate amount of power and memory from the people she touches deepening on length of contact. A light touch will allow the person to remain standing, and full touch usually leaves them out for a moment.
I was thinking Mimic in this case. He's an older X-Man character, I think a villain now, if he's not dead. He could have the powers of one person within a given distance, but at a reduced level. Eventually, he fully took on the powers of the original X-Man team (Cyclops, Jean, Beast, and Angel). I was thinking something like that, aside from the the taking on the full powers part, because it'd be easier to manage I think then dealing with who's power did she have as well as moving things long so the character can get the power back.

Oh yea that's right... ^_^
I have no idea what kind of power I'd want a character to have...something not as common I suppose.

I'd love something uncommon. Even something that's pretty silly, like changing the color of things or shooting bubbles. Dunno where those to came from, but you get my point. I'm pretty sure I'll have enough of the usual powers that the you won't feel cliche, but just try out a couple of ideas, no matter out there they may be. I might just accept it.

^^ Yeah, I was basing it off of Rogue. She was always one of my favorite characters. XP MEH. I need to figure out specifics. But I don't like the idea of stealing a power and having it forever and ever. That just builds up and the character eventually becomes a Mary Sue or Gary Stu, and I HATE that couple. stressed
Do you mean Mikan from Gakuen Alice? Love that manga/anime. >.< That's actually a good thought... *brainstorms*
DX I am not! I'm just asking! And there's a difference between mine and the others! gonk

Whoa! This is neato! ...Just one question before I begin drafting a character. I'm a big Spidey fan; in what capacity might I retain a majority of Parker's radioactive abilities... I don't want to blatantly become the next Spiderman, but that's almost where I want to be, ya' know? XD The unique mode of travel, and borderline telepathy being the most desirable
EDIT: Actually, I've got some energy-based ideas that could accomplish those abilities for me.
