 The Meadow
The Meadow is one of the only places on the outside of District 12 that isn't off limits. Wildflowers are found throughout the meadow, some edible, and some not so much.

≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎ Gemma Neive Vanderbell District Twelve ≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎ Sitting among the wildflowers, I watched the wind forcing them in to a lazy dance, and jotted down a few notes in my journal. There was hardly much beauty in District twelve, and I found that here was one of the few places to gather a few inspiring thoughts. I've always enjoyed the company of the wild thoughts that ran around though my mind, always dreaming of what the rest of the world contained. Surely it couldn't all be as bad as District twelve?
I closed my journal and laid back in the tall grasses, staring up at the few scattered clouds in the sky. The air was tinted grey and familiar from the coal dust and I wondered what it would be like to see a clear blue sky. My thoughts also went to the many starving families that I could barely manage to help most of the time. What would it be like if no one starved? I sighed, knowing that these thoughts were foolish, but weren't all dreams? ≎≎≎Mood:Thoughtful≎≎≎Location:Meadow≎≎≎Inventory:Journal≎≎≎

It was one of the few hiding places that held a sort of benevolent peace amongst, away from the blackened streets caused by the light layer of coal dust that clouded it out... Gabriel was always too busy nowadays to get the time to come back to the wild haven, what with being put as a leading deep-travel miner, always gone all day just due to the fact that it was an hour's worth of walking just to get all the way towards the newer developing ends. He didn't mind at all, even though the others were afraid that, as the mayor's son, he was in the front and, therefore, one of the most likely to get killed... Does it matter? He's just another man, just like the rest. No special treatment required. And he reminded them that, always.
Gabriel was only working half a day since they were beginning to run out of more coal again. And that meant finding new veins again, which also meant explosives. And, of course: there was no way the mayor's son was going to be around such dangerous materials while they go on a miniature expedition for more resources. But, at least, now he had time to reminisce old, fond memories.
He walked through the field of flowers and grasses, his mind feeling more and more dulled and blank as he let the sight consume him, just losing who he is for a moment. When he spotted a female figure lying on her back amidst it all. At first, he assumed that it was some student skipping school, maybe even an old flame or something... Then he caught the sight of light blond hair, matching his own, complimenting a fair but pale face, sky blue eyes just peeking out, staring up at the sky. He walked over, his silhouetting shadow beginning to loom over and block sunlight as he spoke, his voice calm, though a bit roughened by the dust partially stuck to his throat: "Hey Gem. Writing another story or something?" συτ σғ cнαмσмιʟє : Shoop-de-woop.

I flinched a small bit when his shadow blocked the light from my view, but when I looked up, I immediately saw no reason to be frightened, for it was only my curious brother, and his presence caused a gentle smile to spread across my face. I was always pleased to see him, for I worried quite a bit when he was down in the mines all the time. I understood his reasons for going down there, but I hated the anxiety it gave me when the work days were longer than they were supposed to be.
"I'm attempting to write another one, but I'm having a little trouble trying to imagine what I want to say." I said, sitting up to get a better look at my older brother. "Did you get out of work early today?" I asked him, curious to know why he was out here in the first place. ≎≎≎Mood:Content≎≎≎Location:Meadow with Gabe≎≎≎Inventory:Journal≎≎≎

He always had been the more serious of the two siblings, putting family, friends, and then work before ever making free time. Especially when it came to his goals in life, in which were currently few; never shame the family name, always look out for the ones he loves, and honor his best friend's death by living it out for him in life. That's what fueled him to become a miner, and to turn to the simple, hard-working class of society instead of staying in the cushy living he'd become so accustomed to in the past. It gave him a new perspective about his surroundings and the district, which was very refreshing in comparison to all that he knew before.
When Gemma spoke to Gabriel that, indeed, she was trying to write a new story, he nodded in a bit of a solemn gesture. She always had been so good at creativity. Something he lacked, but always was proud of in turn of the fact that she took it on fully for him. As she sat up and asked if he got out of work early, he nodded once more and replied, "Yeah. The veins are empty, and they're going to searching for new ones. Going to be off for a few days... Tonight's gonna be a bit rough, most especially, so expect a little quaking to go on." It always was like that when they ran out of resources, and the shaking that happened on the surface would cause the dust to slowly shift off of the buildings, gathering on the streets. It would be nice to see the more original gleam of District Twelve instead of its blackened version that it would soon return to once new veins were found. συτ σғ cнαмσмιʟє : Shoop-de-woop.

≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎ Gemma Neive Vanderbell District Twelve ≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎ I attentively listened to my brother speak to me, telling me that he would be out of the mines for a few days, much to my immense relief. Accidents were unavoidable in the mine when the quakes happened, and I was glad that my brother wasn't going to be inside when things were crashing open.
"Well, I'm glad you're not going to be in there, Gabe. I worry so much sometimes." I said softly, hugging my journal to my chest. I blinked and looked up at him, wondering what his plans were for the days that he had off. It had been so long since he had some time off to himself. The wind was beginning to blow, and I started to feel a couple light sprinkles of rain hitting my cheeks. My eyes traveled towards the sky, seeing a few storm clouds had moved in while we had been talking. I didn't mind the rain, in fact, rather enjoyed it due to the false illusion that it cleaned away the dust from the district. That was foolish though, for the dust and ash always came back with a vengeance, no matter how much the rain washed had away. ≎≎≎Mood:Curious≎≎≎Location:Meadow with Gabe≎≎≎Inventory:Journal≎≎≎

Although it had started to rain just slightly, Eric still strolled through the meadow with his usual calm nonchalance. He wasn't dressed for work anyways, and didn't mind getting a little wet. Besides, his wife said that rain water was good for your hair, or something, and he didn't want to go prematurely bald. And the third reason was that he simply enjoyed the rain. It was always so cool and refreshing and seemed to bring a new life to the District. When it rained heavily, sure, the streets were black and mucky for a little, but the buildings were bright and clean. No one cared too much about their shoes around here anyways, one such person being Eric. He could walk through a mud hole and not care in the least, because he felt if the people saw him doing the work they did, they'd understand that he was just like them. And it seemed that so far his honest strategy was working. He helped out when and where he could, and it wasn't uncommon to find him doing odd jobs for a person here or there. He liked to help, and would in any way he could. Which brought him to the reason for his trip to the meadow. He was looking for his children, to tell them he was off to the Capitol in order to push some reforms on the President. He'd been invited to lunch by the man's eldest daughter, who fancied herself skilled enough to at least sway him on some matters. Eric had spoken with the girl only briefly, but had been pleasantly surprised by her compassion for the suffering. She was obviously nothing like her father, and would make a wonderful President, if the cruel mass of the Capitol would elect her. Which, Eric knew, would never happen. Rosemary wasn't nearly cruel enough, and she would want to abolish the Games. No, the girl would never be President, but Eric thought that she may make a difference some other way. Starting, hopefully, by pushing some of his proposals through. As he neared Gemma and Gabriel he raised his hand, calling out in his deep, smooth voice, "Hey guys! I'v been looking for you two all day!" He stepped up to them with a smile, blue eyes sparkling with warmth, "Ok, well maybe not all day, but at least an hour or two." He brushed his fingers through his short blonde hair and examined his children with the eyes of a man who was proud of how well they'd turned out. He gazed around the meadow for a moment, then back to his kids, "So, what's up guys?"

"Heartache and sorrow death and pain..."
Leanne sat on the bed in her room. She held the letter that was calling her husband to the Capitol. She didn't want him to leave but she understood why he had to go. She couldn't be selfish and had to let him go but she wanted to help as well. Her whole life she had tried to help those in the district. A warrior for justice. She cleared her throat and went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. Her blonde hair fell in light waves around her shoulders and her light blue eyes stared back at her. She couldn't take a back seat, but Eric would never let her go with him. She could argue and beg him but he would always pull the who is going to look after the children and I need you here to ensure that things run smoothly in my absence.
Licking her lips she left the bathroom and put on some shoes. She took a light gray sweater and wrapped herself in it. Her hair was thrown up in a ponytail. She wasn't going on official business so there was no need to do herself up. She left her gray house and shook her head. She really wished she could paint the town so that it didn't blend in with the sky. A little color might brighten everyone's constant somber attitude, but with the coal smoke the color would just gray and dirty. There was no point at all. Rain was falling, like usual and it felt good on her skin.
She knew where the rest of her family would be, in the meadow. At had become a place of refuge for them much like everyone else. As she made her way a mockingjay flew overhead singing some song it had picked up. With a smile on her face Leanne began to hum the same tune. The tune seemed to make no sense at all so she wondered if the bird was mixing a lot of different notes together. As the meadow came into view she saw her children and husband. With a sly smile on her face she began to creep up on them. She wasn't much of a sneaky person so she was sure her husband would catch her, but it was worth a shot.

Elizibeth Bloodheart As I walked by the meadow I heard A mockingJay singing a tune I listened then I added a few notes to the the tune.Makeing it a bit unique. Before i got home i wanted to get some dendilions just to add a little more taste to the soup.As usual the Mayor and his Family were here.I personally Thought they were preetty decent people for being the family whos husband/father is the mayor in all. So i decidded to wave at them quick not really carring if they saw the wave or not. Just careing Because i have been on edge today not that i am not like that every day but they are good people so they deserve some kind of niceness.
I turned back around walking towards the patch of dandalions that i usually pick from.I inspect each Dandlion befor i choose them to put in the soup i gather around 10 Dandolions and put them in my Bookbag.I then gather a few unopened Dandelions just to have around the house so when they open in a few days i wont have to go pick some.I think about if i have any left over meat to put in the soup and i remember 2 days ago i killed a rabit and had half for dinner and a quarter for lunch the next day so i have just enough to put in my soup.
I was releived i didt have to do anything for the next hour untill i have to make dinner so i lay down in the meadow and close my eyes for about 5 minutes.I opend them up again and gathered all my stuff to head back to my home.I get up and start exciting the meadow leaving the Vanderbells to talk. A selfish one, he knew, but was it that horrible to acknowledge it? Of course not, for he would have cared as well should it be his sister or mother or father in such trouble. And so, this is why he loved family so. See, when he pushed and begged to become a miner and drop out of school, they were quick to understand his decision... Indeed, he did inherit quite a few things from both his parents that clashed well with each other, even if there were downsides, as with all things. For example, Gabriel held the same speech and people skills his father was known for all around the District, best for being mayor and all, but he also has the man's stubbornness. His mother's compassion lay within him as well, but not without being bad at knowing when it's a good time to speak, most especially in serious situations.
Gabriel would have replied if not for, all of a sudden, hearing his father's voice calling for them from the entrance of the meadow. He turned his head in the general direction, his eyes then finding Eric's figure in his more casual kind of clothes. 'They certainly beat his suits,' Gabriel couldn't help but think almost humorously. Sure, their dad looked dashing in them, as probably Gabriel will appear one day, but the mayor seemed much more himself when in just a jeans and tee. As the man asked what they were up to, the son simply shrugged and replied, "Nothing really for me. Just got off; mines are empty, so they'll be finding new resources. No work for me for a few days." He easily was expecting, in a similar turn like Gemma, for their father to be happy about the news, though saddened just a bit that there will be a stem in fuel flow until then. And just before Eric would be heading off to the Capitol. συτ σғ cнαмσмιʟє : ... *insert "We Are Family" music here*... =D

Eric frowned slightly when his son said that the mines were dry. Although Eric had known that resources were running thin, he hadn't expected them to run out so fast. Although he was glad to hear that his son was getting some much needed rest, it would also mean that the other workers would be in double the danger. With a sigh, then a soft smile, Eric nodded, "Glad to see you getting a break, kiddo. You deserve it." The Mayor heard a rustle behind him and turned just in time to catch his wife trying to sneak up on them all. Eric raised his eyebrow at her, then chuckled, taking her hand lightly, "You, my dear, are no huntress." He teased lightly, then pulled her up to him and kissed her gingerly. His wife had truly been a perfect match for him, and he'd been chasing after her for years before she would even give him the time of day. Those had been good times. Like a light in the darkness. And now that his whole family was gathered, he turned so that he could speak to them all at once, "I needed to tell all of you that I'll be gone for a bit. I'm heading to the Capitol, for a private little lunch with the President's daughter." He looked at his wife and winked playfully, then sobered quickly, "I'm hoping that she will be able to convince her father to reform the hunting laws among other things." He paused, letting this information sink in and giving them all time for questions.

"Heartache and sorrow death and pain..."
Just as she had suspected her husband had caught her. He was right she was no huntress. She had never tried to hunt anything in her life. It had nothing to do with a weak constitution but everything to do with she was not quiet when she walked on a surface littered with dry leaves or grass. Her tread was heavy and noisy. Leanne's hand fit perfectly into Eric's when he pulled her up to give her a kiss. She returned the affection and stared into his wonderful glimmering eyes. They were limpid pools of fire and passion and even though his face aged those eyes never did. They remained young and full of vitality. Leanne put her arm around her husband's waist and looked at her two wonderful children.
She had heard what her son had said and she was not happy about the mines running low on resources. What would they do once the supplies ran out? Then her husband brought up the lunch he was going to. A wave of dread spread over her. She among many hated the Capitol. If it had not been for her cousin she would've been in the hunger games and most likely have died. The playful look her husband gave her lightened her mood for a moment until she saw his own features sober. She looked to her children and waited for their reaction. The two would no doubt be devastated as well. No one in the family liked to be separated for too long. She would let them ask the questions first.
"the hunger games does this to us come cry on my shoulder."

≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎ Gemma Neive Vanderbell District Twelve ≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎ A smile covered my face at the sight of my mother attempting to sneak up on us, but she was being so noticeably loud that it was difficult for me to keep myself from laughing at the amusing sight of her approaching. Of course, my father wasn't someone you could sneak up on, especially if you were my mother. When he finally did notice her shenanigans, he pulled her in for a kiss, and I was so relieved for their undying love, for it was hard to come by here in district twelve due to the daily stresses of life. It was, when my father spoke again, that my smile began to disappear.
His idea to go to the Capitol left a burning in my stomach, and I couldn't help, but worry about his well-being, especially knowing what he was going there for. It was definitely a bold request, trying to repeal the hunting law, but it would be wonderful if we had the opportunity to feed more of our starving citizens. I despised the fact that our citizens had to starve a good percentage of the time, and I knew my father would do it with or without my consent, so I decided to just accept it for once. It was what was best for the citizens, and I was completely for their well being.
"I think it's definitely worth a shot." I said, forcing a slight smile on my face, not wanting to cause a silly arguement because I was afraid of my father being in the Capitol with people who could easily make our lives nonexistant. ≎≎≎ Mood: Worrisome, Hopeful ≎≎≎ Location: Meadow ≎≎≎ Inventory: Journal ≎≎≎

Danny, once reaching the meadows, bolted on ahead. Taking her bow and a sheath of arrows from a nearby bush. "Kevin hurry up!" She laughed. Strapping the sheath on her back and her bow in hand she sat down looking at the daisies, distracted. 'Ohh, maybe I can bring these home. Brighten up the place a little.' She thought smiling down on the flowers, picking them up and putting them inside her bag.

KEVIN Hourglass We walked to the meadows not making much contact me being afraid that and being afraid that a peacekeeper would want to know what they were doing more or less the newer peacekeepers.once we were at the meadows I turned my head exspecting to see dannys smile like she usually does when we get here hence getting ready to smirk my self since her happyness was mine.Looking she was not there hereing a laugh my head turned quickly in that general direction.I saw her farther out knealing down ready to pick up something.Taking my time to get up there I tapped her back evidentally causing her to flinch.Smirking I walked forward hinting her to follow before people saw us. Before I went under the fence and in the forest I yelled well it was more like a deeper voice talk for me since I nearly never talk led alone yell in public."And I thought my younger sister was the faster one. I guess with younger brothers the older brothers are always faster."I said ducking under the fence pulling my bag out from under. That was meant by since my sister likes to be called danny a boys name and I truly am slower then her usually olderbrothers allow there younger sisters to win a race(I really can not run faster then her) and younger brothers its fun to win againsta dn they always do since they are faster runners.
