Alright one important part of the Reaping is taking out Tesserae. This is how you gain more numbers in the Reaping Ball. Just how it's explained in the book Tesserae has it's good and bad effects.
The good is that you have a choice to get your family grain, oils, meats, fruits, vegetables, and comfort items like blankets and clothes.
The bad is that it adds your character name more times into the Reaping Ball.
One of the main things that everyone should know about the Tesserae is that you can take it for each family member you have. For example lets think of Katniss Everdeen for a moment here. Each year she has her name put into the Reaping ball because she has to and she can take 3 Tesserae for herself and her mother and sister. So she would have her name in the Reaping Ball 4 times for her first Hunger Games. Each year you can add your name more times. So by the time she's 16 she had her name in 20 times.
Taking Tesserae is totally optional. You don't have to take it but if you want more chances to be put into the Hunger Games then this is the perfect way!
