The two ghouls had decided to go out together one day, just letting some of their cooped up minis get a bit of good exercise and fresh air in. Since their masters were always out and about together sparring and practicing, it seemed like a good idea to have their minis follow suit. The tatzel ghoul flickered a pigtail behind her shoulder when her candy corn treat Sweets came to land on her shoulder after a few circling flaps overhead. They both agreed to meet just outside the main building's doors so they could get a good overall rounding of the campus for their walk. Levi peered from side to side, giving the churring treat a twitch of her fingers underneath its chin. Any sign of the baku?

There was a squeak at Levi's feet.
If the Tatzel were the look down, she would find a pair of soft pink eyes staring straight back up at her. It seemed as if Shu had somehow arrived first, but she wasn't alone for long--Jian, who had been right on her heels, went running up to them a few moments later.
Finally, the pair of minis were followed by their owner, who was wide-eyed and currently in the process of braiding her hair. "Jiejie! I'm sorry, I didn't keep you waiting, did I--" Her gaze suddenly slid to the treat perched on her friend's shoulder, and she stared up at the mini. Xiu blinked once, twice, and then...
"S-so adorable..." The baku clasped her hands together in front of her, seemingly going starry-eyed.

Familiarizing himself with the school building was not going to cause classes to magically appear. Yǐn Cáng acknowledged this, but still found himself there, scanning the bulletin boards without actually reading anything. Pulling himself away he began to head down the hallway.
The sound of female voices carried to him and he quickly turned and almost scurried to the front door. Something...smelled rather delicious, coming from the other side of the door. If he had been thinking clearly he might have remembered that most things that smelled delicious to him on campus tended to be minipets. And minipets had owners.
So upon opening the door he almost walked straight into two ghouls with their deliciously scented pets. He froze, horrified. Maybe if I keep walkin they will not notice me. I am a mere boil after all. Testing his theory he hunche slightly and tried to walk around them without being noticed.

The squeak perked her two white ears, causing her to look down. Ain't that precious~ She knelt down, offering her hand to the mini to sniff, not assuming the pet would automatically take to being touched. Sweets chirped in greeting, eyes going wide at potentially meeting a friend. The scent as familiar... something it had picked up on the baku before...
Not at 'all, screecheart. Rolling back up, Levi chuckled at Xiu's running/braiding while concerned of being late. Sweets fluttered off the tatzel's shoulder at seeing the familiar small form that had appeared before in its master's room and circled Xiu before perching down on her shoulder, nuzzling into her cheek. "chiiirp chiiiiirp!"
kekeke~ seems ta like 'ya plen-
Her tatzel sense was tingling.
Tail curling up, she turned to acknowledge another figure walking rather suspiciously in a hunched posture. Her eyes narrowed; was he up to something? Did he just set a trap somewhere around or what? Looking back to Xiu with a raised brow and then back at the student, Levi called out. Aye thar!

Shu was more than happy to rub up against Levi's hand, even moving closer towards her so that she could wind herself around the tatzel's legs in an affectionate greeting. She then turned her attention to Sweets, raising a paw and flopping it in an awkward imitation of a wave.
Jian, meanwhile, still had that rather sour expression on his face.
Xiu positively beamed when Sweets decided to perch on her shoulder. However, before she had a chance to lift her hand and pet the mini, her attention was drawn towards the strange figure who was...not so subtly trying to creep away. Immediately, the baku felt her stomach knot uncomfortable, remembering what the horsemen had said about the Hunters and their infiltrations. She didn't recall seeing this boil before either...
She didn't say anything when Levi called out towards the figure, but she did offer a weak--and vaguely wary--smile.

Despite his best efforts to hide it the mantodae visibly cringled, knowing there was no reason for one of the ghouls to call out so loudly to the ghoul beside her. He had been spotted, and it went against everything that had been ingrained into him as a child to ignore the hail.
He turned, eyes cast downwards so as not to accidentally look one of them in the eye. This did give him a rather nice view of the delicious looking food sources, minipets, not food, he reminded himself that had relieved him of his senses earlier and his mouth began to water, despite his reminder.
"Yes?" he replied uncertainly, his voice waivering slightly. More than anything he wanted to be away from here. These are not Mantodae females. They were not Clan and I had no allegiance to them. Telling himself that was one thing. Believing it was quite a different story.

Levi placed her hands on her hip assertively while looking the boil over more carefully. Her lower lip turn up slightly in a sort of pout and her eyes turned to suspicious slits. The only defining factor on her that she was in thought was that long white tail flickering behind her. The tatzel ghoul herself also had the slightest scent of candy corn to her which may or may not have been noticeable.
Ain't never seen ya none 'round these parts. She looked to Xiu again before slowly stepping closer towards the boil. New ta tha' school? .... Eh... Name's Levi.... She found herself mid-introduction peering at his... ears? What sorts critter are ya?
The classic question.
Sweets chirped thrice (one for Xiu and each of her companions) as if to ay excuse me a moment and fluttered toward the shoulder of her master again. It too was curious about this new potential comrade. It chirped at the boil, tilting its head questioningly; a fluffy-ended tail wagged behind it.

Xiu, on the other hand, looked far meeker compared to the taller tatzel. She stayed one step behind Levi, wringing her hands in front of her in an anxious gesture. Quietly, she looked the boil up and down, almost in an analytical manner. He's probably just a new student, She told herself, Stop being so paranoid!
The baku perked up when her friend introduced herself, and she was quick to follow suit. "I'm Xiu-Ying! But I just go by Xiu. It's nice to meet you, ah..." Right, he hadn't supplied his name yet. He was...an awfully nervous fellow, wasn't he? Perhaps it was because he was new, or maybe he was a Hunter in disgui--
No. She immediately cut the thought off, scolding herself. Taking a deep breath, Xiu offered the boil a slightly wider smile. "How are you finding Amityville?"
Neither Shu nor Jian made a noise during this exchange. Instead, they simply stared at Yin, wide-eyed and curious.

Yǐn Cáng gulped nervously, fingers twitching nervously as he continued to avoid looking up, though he did sneak a glance at the minipet that smelled strongly like dessert that chirped at him. He could feel that he was under scrutiny, and straightened up slightly.
Despite the somewhat rude manner that Levi had phrased her questions there was no question in his mind if he was going to answer their questions or not, as his training automatically kicked in. Females asked questions. He answered questions. He forced his tone to be as polite as possible as he answered their questions. "My name is Yǐn Cáng Mistress Levi," he said with a nod in her direction. "I am a mantodae, a weremantis, and I am indeed new to the school." He shifted to more fully face Xiu though without looking, forging on ahead. "Mistress Xiu-Ying, I have much to learn about Amityville though my stay so far has been enjoyable."
Questions answered he remembered that he did not have to simply obey, and he mentally berated himself for slipping so easily back into that mindset. He forced himself to bite back the customary compliments, such as they were kind for asking after him or how elegant Xiu-Ying's name was, and considered that a small victory.

He sure looked agitated or up to something with all that twitching about he was doing. Levi usually did try to make eye contact with opponents, so she noticed his lack of facing her as well. The boil did, however, come around and answer her inquiries. Mirroring his motion to nod, the tatzel too nodded in response.
Mis...Mistress. A Mistress?
Wasn't that some sort of demon term? Levi had never heard this name used on any of her kind let alone her. This new type of critter wasn't one she'd seen around the halls for sure and the name didn't ring any bells either.
Weremantis. hmm... well- She placed a finger and thumb to her chin in thought, tail swaying behind her somewhat like that of a metronome. Sure can't say I'd seen none'like ya before.
Listening to him speak to Xiu was like- was he some sort of royalty? The boil had a manner to him as if- maybe instead of him being royalty... Do ya'll think we're she resisted the urge to hiss while saying the word princesses 'er something? Why tha' Mistress talk?
He seemed to make Xiu a bit nervous at first but Levi somehow didn't see him as a threat. Given he couldn't even look them in the eye spoke wonders about how much of a fighter he was.

...Hmm, that was strange. Even Xiu had noticed his lack of eye contact as he spoke to the two of them. Taking a deep breath, the baku worked up the courage to step a little closer, trying to look as friendly and reassuring as she could. "Yǐn Cáng, is it?" She smiled, committing the name to memory. Like Levi, she had never met a weremantis before, so a part of Xiu was genuinely curious about this new student.
The title did catch her off guard, though. She stared at the boil in surprise, and then glanced over her shoulder Levi when the tatzel spoke. Indeed, she had also been wondering where that "mistress" title suddenly came from. Clearing her throat, Xiu gave a little shake of her head.
"There's um...there's no need to be formal here! Please, just call me Xiu." A pause, and then she added, "I insist!"

While he probably could have handled the either of the ghouls fairly well, but having both to deal with at once was a bit much, especially when Xiu began to intrude into what little space he had left. He forced himself to hold his ground, he was stronger than this.
"Calling you Mistress Levi is simply a sign of respect," he explained, and actually flicked his eyes up to her face so that he could fix an image of who he was talking to in his mind. "I do not assume that I will meet any princesses here, though I have never encountered one personally."
His gaze moved over to Xiu before he looked back toward the ground, unable to actually look at them but mentally congratulating himself for looking at them. Finally, a step in the right direction. "I do not wish to appear disrespectful Xiu-Ying, but if you insist I shall call you by your given name." It felt bold to do so, and so he ignored the fact that he was obeying her in the process.
"I did not mean to intrude upon your time together. Do you require my services?" As soon as he offered he mentally kicked himself. He was not supposed to be scraping about doing the bidding of every female. But it was hard not to. And who knew, maybe he could take the opportunity to escape, or they probably would not need him.

Ah- there. The boil looked her in the eye. It was much more relieving to be able to stare into a potential opponent person you were talking to. Somehow the ring of "Mistress Levi" appealed to her, but the tatzel was in no way about to level herself as some sort of royalty over another student. Especially since she wasn't one. That goes fer me too,... She pronounced his name as best as she could which likely came out poorly. The ghoul was never good with other tongues. Levi'll do just fine. Smiling reassuringly, Levi's eyes went wide again- this time to the mentioning of services.
Levi looked at Xiu as if to say is this guy serious? ... just walking' tha critters is all. Not really needin' no.... servicin' Just what sort of servicing was even being suggested? but yer sure welcome ta come'long n' walk with us. Tha'grounds 'er good n' go pretty far fer walkin'. Yer kin like that sorta stuff? Ya know- exercisin'? Stretchin' out them legs? The baku didn't look like it either, but she sure could hold her own; perhaps Yin was a hidden warrior of some sort too. Whadda'ya think, Xiu? Take tha' new fellar 'round fer a bit? She remembered how Lizzy had taken her to meet the other ghouls in a flash when she was new- it was nice just to be feel welcomed. Why not try to do the same for another student?

At the mention of disrespect, Xiu was quick to lift a hand and wave away his concern. "Honestly, most of the students here are quite casual! High-class or not, most of us prefer to go by our nicknames or given names." Though now that he had mentioned it, she was becoming a little nervous. Though she had initially wondered if she could simply call him Yin, perhaps it would be best if she called him by his full given name.
The thought was quickly shoved to the side, however, at the mention of services. Xiu's expression mimicked Levi's as she turned to stare back at her friend, and then at Yin again. It was...a strange request, to be certain, and she wasn't entirely sure how to answer. Fortunately, the tatzel did that for her, and the baku simply had to agree, her face brightening once more. "Yes, that sounds like a good idea to me, Jiejie!"
To Yin, she smiled. "What do you think? We're okay, but maybe we can help you by showing you around?"

These ghouls seemed nice enough, they really did. But Yin was not comfortable even around nice ghouls. In fact, they were almost more difficult to deal with than rude ones. "I do enjoy exercise," he said slowly, backing away ever so slightly as he did so.
And then he flat out lied. "In fact that was what I had planned on doing, go for a fun. I hope you ladies have a nice time on your tour." And with that he turned and fled, trying to act like he was just out for a nice run but knowing fully well in his head that he was just fleeing the scene as quickly as he was able to.
He could deal with ghouls.
Another day.
