It wasn't too often that Shun ventured out into the scarefari. He had no need for more pets. However, he was currently scouting out the area to see how it'd be for his falcons. They had begun to hover, meaning they were likely going to be able to take their first flights sometime soon. If this was true, he was going to need to find some nice areas for them to practice and strengthen their wings. Perhaps he could get them to hunt on their own a bit too. It would take a bit of training.
Not only that, but he did set a few traps here now and then. He found that the scarefari was good to collecting various resources.
How coal and stuff got into his traps.. he didn't know. At the same time, he didn't really question it. A number of the things, he didn't really use himself, but there were a couple things that were decent for pawning off for seeds.
In any case, he had Yin and Yang with him, letting them get a feel for the lands.

Lark loved the scarefari. She loved the endless expanse of landscape that spread out in front of her. She loved the quiet solitude of the Misty Fields, the eerieness of the Dark Forest, the murky depths of Landdown Bog. Lark loved discovering and catching little pets, or pretty stones or pieces of ribbon and fur. Sometimes she even found silver seeds in her traps, and that was always a nice way to add to her funds.
Today, though, she wasn't trapping.
In an attempt to build up her endurance, she was challenging Ben to race her. And she was also being a dirty, rotten cheater.
"Y'keep CHEATING," a loud voice carried across the field. It was male and sounded absolutely livid.
"It ain't cheatin', Ben! Go again!"

As he made his way through the scarefari, Shun paused as he heard a few voices from nearby. One of the voices sounded to be rather pissed, but he didn't recognize either. The other thing he noticed was that they had an accent he wasn't too familiar with either.
Yin had ventured over in that direction, so he moved to make sure that his bird wasn't in any immediate danger. With everything going on as of late, he felt like he couldn't be too suspicious to begin with. Though, he didn't know if Hunters had any interest in minipets. Even so, he made his way to investigate, summoning his daggers just in case something was amiss.
It was too bad Yang couldn't fly yet. He could have sent the white falcon to scout otherwise. This wasn't the case.
Quietly, he just went towards the source. If it was an enemy, he'd be the one with the element of surprise. Not the other way around.

"I said go again!"
"Jackdamn it Lark, y'ain't gettin' no practice outta this. Yer jest actin' th'goat. This's jest plain jiggered."
"On your mark... -- to that big tree there, just like last time -- get set... GO!"
Both lanky blonde and kangaroo familiar took off as fast as they could. Of course being a creature of great speed and formidable musculature, the kangaroo pulled ahead almost immediately. The ghoul pumped her legs as fast as she could and yet still fell behind.
The kangaroo neared the so-called finish line where he promptly disappeared.
Lark gave a hoot of laughter and crossed the finish line. The kangaroo reappeared where he'd vanished. A very sour expression was on his face.
"Dirty on! Dirty tricks!" He pointed an accusing finger at the ghoul. "Y'can't win when ya do that crooked s**t!"
Lark was too busy howling with laughter.

Now what we have here, is a kangaroo. Dangerous buggahs when provoked. Watch out for their legs as they can deliver quite the powerful kick! Watch as this boomer races ahead. What speed!
No that wasn't what was going through Shun's head. That was just his player being a dork. With the way he was creeping closer through the grass, he might as well have been doing a documentary for Minipet Planet. He watched as the two raced, only to see the kangaroo disappear and reappear moments later.
Well. That killed any suspicion that he was dealing with a hunter. The only ones able to do this sort of thing were Reapers. While he watched, Yang was creeping along with him, blinking as he didn't know what they were doing. Yin, on the other hand, was just chilling nearby.
"He does have a point," he commented while straightening up, dismissing his daggers.
That was a bit of a dirty trick for a race.

Lark spun around guiltily, narrowing her eyes at the intruder. Turns out the scarefari was home to dark haired boils who slunk around in the tall grass before popping up and offering opinions that Lark didn't want to hear.
Ben spun around curiously, narrowing his eyes at the newcomer. Turns out the scarefari was home to intimidating-looking boils who offered an opinion that mirrored Ben's own, opinions that Ben was happy to agree with.
"S'what I was tellin' the chit but she's too much of a gink to lissen." The roo shook his head and loped a few paces forward, his dark eyes meeting the boil's.
"Oh, great," Lark rolled her eyes and threw her arms up into the air. "Now 'e's never gonna shut up. S'all in fun, ain't no harm in fun."

Shun raised an eyebrow as the familiar spoke. He used some lingo that he wasn't really too familiar with. Namely 'chit' and 'gink'. It took him a moment, but he got the gist of what he was saying thee. Not saying anything right away, he looked over the roo that had stepped closer to him, having never really seen one up close before. The closest were the sungaroo minis he had seen someone have. It was good to see that this person wasn't inclined to shout 'kyokugen!' like that one guy was.
"It depends on what you find fun, I suppose," the Reaper replied with a shrug. For some reason this made him think of his little encounter with Charlie. The pranks the demon thought of didn't seem particularly harmful but...
Eh, he just shrugged it off. Though now he felt like something was amiss. Wasn't there some sort of rule of locking eyes with another Reaper in the Scarefari means you have to fight? No. That was just Blade being a dork again.
Shaking his head, he placed his hands into his pockets, looking around to see if he could spot where Yin had gone off now. The young black falcon had fallen out of his line of sight now. She had a tendency to go off on her own a lot more than Yang.

Lark snorted. Loudly.
"Ben likes it when I make funna him," Lark grunted as she crossed her arms over her chest and stared at the solemn-looking boil. Okay, that had been a total lie, but whatever. Lark didn't have to explain herself to this stranger.
"No I ain't like it," Ben huffed, sending the stranger an apologetically pained glance. "She jest been havin' a rough go of it lately, mate. I ain't like it, but Lark needed t'blow off some steam. Since she's m'reaper, s'my job t'help her out."
He peered over his shoulder at Lark and narrowed her eyes before saying, loudly, "EVEN IF I AIN'T LIKE IT."
"Tch," Lark grunted with a shake of her head. "It don't matter. What about you, boil? Sneakin' around in th'grass like a jackdamned snake."

Shun was not put off by Lark's current attitude. It didn't really matter to him if she had been having it roughly lately or what. His gaze was still scanning the grass for the moment, trying to spot his other bird. Around that time, Yang decided to try and help out. The white bird began to jump up and down flapping hard to gain some altitude, peeking around as he did so.
It was good practice for him anyway.
In any case, it seemed that this... duo was a rather dynamic one, given the comments shot at eachother.
"I heard a pair of unfamiliar and somewhat foreign voices. Given everything that has happened lately, I felt it was best to go unnoticed while I investigate. If there were hunters around, I'd rather not be the one taken off guard," he said lowly, ignoring the fact that he had a white falcon flapping up and down next to him.
"Once I saw you, it was obvious you weren't hunters. So there was no point in remaining hidden."

Lark glared at the boil for a long moment before the flapping of wings caught her attention. She peered over at the white bird with arms crossed over her chest, watching the thing try and fly from a distance.
"Aye, been a bit wonky 'round 'ere lately," Ben agreed with the boil. "Good t'know that there's someone always lookin' around and keepin' an eye on things." Ben beamed at the boil, pleased with the initiative that he was taking. "Lark got burnt up real bad at this la--"
"S'wrong with yer bird," Lark's voice rang out. It was obvious that she was bored with the ego-stroking that Ben was offering, and she certainly didn't want her familiar talking to some stranger about her faults as a reaper.

"Cannot be too careful," he shrugged.
The words Ben said caught Shun's attention. Burnt up real bad? In they were talking about recent events, it sounded like this Reaper had gotten herself caught up in the little invasion of sorts that had happened not too long ago. He didn't recall seeing her there, but then again, there were a lot of students involved in that ******** style="color: darkgoldenrod">"Many were burned that day, if you're referring to what I'm thinking of."
At the question, he glanced over at Yang who had now stopped flapping around to take a little break.
"Nothing. He's still a fledging. Hovering is how he builds up strength for real flight," he replied, "He may be seeking out the other bird though. A falcon like him only black in color. She should be somewhere around here."

"Aye," Ben admitted. "I wasn't there fer th'burnin'. Th'traps finished m'off. Suffocated th'FEAR right outta Lark." He shot the ghoul a glance. She was off inspecting the area around them for the dark bird, pointedly ignoring both Ben and the boil.
"Ain't got yer name, boil," Ben continued. "M'names Ben, that's m'reaper Lark." He grinned fondly after the ghoul who continued to ignore him.
"Found yer bird," Lark called out, dropping into a crouch. "They're beauts, too right," she murmured softly, thought it was doubtful anyone heard.

That confirmed that they had been around for that fiasco. Shun recalled the strange suffocating feeling he had once the trap had been triggered. It had slowly drained him before he ended up getting caught in that barrier which took out nearly the rest of his FEAR.
"The name's Shun," he replied to the roo with a nod, before glancing over at Lark who had apparently located Yin.
When she walked on over, the dark bird of prey peered up, puffing out her feathers slightly at the sight of the stranger. She was always a little more wary of new people than her brother.
Speaking of him, Yang took notice of this and started to make his way over, bouncing up with more flaps of his wings. It was hard to say if he was trying to move there faster or trying to show off. Either way, Yin glanced at him, then just looked away, as if annoyed.
Shun didn't quite catch the last comment, but he took a few steps over so that he could see the other young one more easily.
"Settle down, Yin. She won't hurt you," he said to the bird. At least he thought Lark wouldn't. If she did well then she would have quite a bit of a problem on her hands right then and there.
Yin glanced up at her master, then looked back at Lark. Her feathers were slowly easing down. It still looked like she was a bit wary. At least it didn't look like she was going to try and bite or anything like that.

Lark rested her chin on her knees, wrapping her arms around her shins. She stared at the dark bird, admiring the way her feathers puffed up as if in defense of herself. When the other bird drew closer, Lark smiled at him.
"Give a go," she crooned softly to the white bird with a chuckle. He was trying so hard to fly. So determined. Lark knew how that felt, to feel such determination. It was an admirable thing, even for a sleek bird of prey. When Shun spoke up in an attempt to soothe the darker bird, Lark turned to peer up at the other student.
"So," she began, turning back to stare at the dark bird, Yin, though her words were obviously directed at Shun, "Who was that man, then? Th'one with the scythe?" Her voice had taken on a soft tone filled with both curiosity and apprehension. Did she really want to know the answer?
"And th'hunters? What... what do they hunt?"

Yang stopped jumping around, having gotten tired of doing so. He needed to take a short break before he could try again. At Lark's words though, he gave a small call in response, then began to preen himself.
"Us," Shun said simply, replying to her second question first, "You might have heard the stories in the newspaper and whatnot, claiming they don't exist. Well. They do. The one with the scythe is one of their leaders. They're a group not to be trifled with."
Crouching down, he motioned for Yin to come closer, since she still seemed a little apprehensive. The dark bird came on over, settling down more readily when she was closer to the Grim. There, she received a gentle pat to the head.
