I love eating citrus fruits (grapefruit and lemon are my favorite). That and their cheapness means we usually stock up (3/$1.00 for just picked locally grown organic grapefruit from the market? Sign me up please, that's a whole week's worth of breakfast). Anyway, my boyfriend went insane and he was rubbing my grapefruit peel all over his feet and hands and stuff the other day. Then I realized that grapefruit peels smell really good and instead of tossing them in the compost I could potentially reuse them for other stuff around the house.
Any ideas people?

Lemon zest (peel) is awesome. I found a recipe once for a berry dessert that had a whipped cream topping. The topping was basically adding a little lemon zest and a little vanilla to the whipped cream. I made it [the whole dessert] for my family, and all they could talk about was the whipped cream. Now, whenever we have pie around the holidays, I get a tub of whipped cream and add a little lemon zest to it.

I eat them sometimes. I also use them around the house for the smell and to keep bugs away.

-You can use them in cooking, the peel or the zest. -Peel tisane, which is tea just soak the peels in hot water for a while and drink.
-if you have LOTS of it you can always make candy out of them. youtube candied oranges. -Marmalade.
-potpourri, put them on your heater or stove and it dry out eventually.
