An army. A whole army. Kai had helped save Christmas many times before and he had faced his fair share of mindless drones, but usually these things started off a little....smaller. With a sigh, the Grombie stepped forward from his spot on the edge of the clock tower. The wind whistled past him as he fell head first, unmoving and eerily calm. As the ground rushed up to meet him, he snapped around and landed with a crunch in the snow.
Figures moved in the streets, dark and menacing. The menacing red glow from their eyes pierced the gentle snowfall in the streets of Durem. Bots. There was a good reason that nobody outside of the loons in Akea used bots. Zero Omega was demonstrating just how little he cared for the safety of others.
"Well, now." Kai said out loud, attracting attention from the bot army. "You guys are botting outside the regulated safety zone....and I am pretty sure you do not have a license. You know what that makes you?" Kai asked innocently before letting a malicious grin spread across his face.
"...scrap metal."

As he approached the first grey clad contraption, he felt more than saw the hundreds of red eyes turn their attention to him. They regarded him as a curiosity at best, right before he unsheathed the blade at his waist and sent it piercing into his quarry. As if there were no resistance at all, the blade bit deep into the monochrome malcontent and ripped through the other side. With a great heave, Kai tore his weapon free, sending the semi-separated pieces of bot into the snow. Kai was no longer a curiosity. Now, he was a threat.

The closest functioning bot took a step forward and swung its axe at his head. Its movements, though accurate, were mechanical; predictable. It was little trouble at all for Kai to avoid the arc of the deadly weapon, ducking low and rolling within the bot's guard. Unable to bring its weapon to bear, Kai had an easy go at its exposed torso, aiming to pull of a second skewering. The blade slid in and the unstable bot powered down, leaving the dead weight at the mercy of momentum. It slid off Kai' sword and spun away out of view, a kill hardly as impressive as the first.
The bots abandoned whatever evil purpose they had been sent on and began to shuffle towards the steps of the clock tower where Kai stood. He gripped his sword tighter and prepared for the onslaught. In the distance, he heard the clash of weapons and the crump of an explosion. Kai smiled. Others were rising to defend Gaia...to defend the holidays. As the soft clank of metallic footsteps announced the closing horde, the clock tower's peel heralded the onset of another hour.
"Looks like your right on time, metal-heads. Time to die, that is!"

Several of the monochrome men advance out of the whirling snow at the same time. Having seen the result of attacking one on one, these metal maniacs had sense enough to attempt overwhelming Kai. Unfortunately for the fearless hero, it worked. Kai stepped forward to meet the first axe swing, deflecting the blade enough for a miss, however, a bull rush from behind took Kai and his assailant to the ground before the Grombie could capitalize on his oppertunity.
Damn, Kai thought, I'll have to switch up tactics. Kai reached to his back and drew a long slender blade. Its surface, thought clean, seemed dulled with time and its pock-marked cloth, wraped about the handle, seemed worn from the many times it had been drawn. The Ancient Katana may have looked worse for wear, but it was truly a powerful sword. Now wielding two instruments of death, Kai leapt back into the oncoming press of bodies, looking for a kill with every strike.

The whirling death that was Kai seemed too much for the gathered bots. As the destructive blades swept closer, the Zero bots that had gathered, slipped further away, disappearing into the poor visibility of the falling snow. At the furthest edges of his sight, Kai could only make out shapes, but he knew well that the advanced sensors of his foe could see him well enough. An axe, thrown end over end, came spinning out of the dense snow fall. Kai had just enough time to weave out of the way before it chopped through the place his head had been only a moment before.
For the second time that battle, Kai wondered when minions had become so tough.

Kai cursed under his breathe. They were trying to be smart, using the cover of the snow for protection. A lesser man would have rushed of to attack them one at a time, but Kai knew better. The horde would let him attack one while the rest shifted position, leaving Kai exposed again with little gain. Raising the Giga-sword high above his head, Kai summoned a warcry from deep within his unliving lungs. Throttled and hoarse as it may be, the cry resonated deep within the enchanted blade. Infused with anger and battle lust, the Giga-sword flared brightly and a burst of flame emanated out from Kai in an ever expanding ring. Where it traveled, the snow seemed to melt away until, suddenly, Durem was left with clear skies, which meant the bots were completely visible and out in the open. Kai grinned and leapt into action. Faster than their processors could compute, Kai powered up his Coyote ring with all his Gi. It was too much for the majority of the bots left standing. The sound of screeching metal and exploding circuits filled the air as Kai rushed through the streets cutting down the bots as he went. A downward slash cleft one in two, while another bot was beheaded by the Ancient Katana. Still another was left with a gapping hole between its bright eyes. By the time Kai had completed his circuit of the Clock Tower, more than half of the bots lay broken and twitching. The remaining few formed up, attempting to overwhelm Kai with their ranked combat.

As the ranks approached, Kai backed up onto the steps again. One of the tin cans broke away from the rest, a hulking figure with an ornate axe. This must have been the main command unit. Kai thought. Taking this one down would send the rest of the army into unorganized combat, disrupting their formation. The command bot leveled its axe at Kai in challenge, though the ranks of troops behind it continued to march towards the Clock Tower, surrounding the pair. In a display of martial prowess, the command bot twirled its axe, chopped the air in a powerful swing, kicked forward and landed in a stance ready to do battle. Kai returned the show with a single slice of his Giga-sword, beheading the command unit. It dropped to the floor, but Kai had already turned his attention to the rest of the machines.

As the last of the bots fell into dissarray, Kai went about the business of destroying them with little regard for their counter attacks. Clumsy and uncoordinated at the best of times, these bots were little more than a field of wheat before the gruesome farmer that was their executioner. By the time the snow settled back in, it fell only on the dismembered pieces of Zero's Bot Army...their enemy was long gone in search of the next evil-doer in his quest to save Modmas.

Kai had long since left Durem, heading towards Barton. Now nightfall, Kai was walking through the graveyard hoping to avoid the usual traffic. As a Grombie, Kai had no aversion to the fields of the dead. Perhaps he was to accustom, for he did not notice the walking dead that surrounded him until just before they struck. Unlike Kai, they were brainless things, mostly bone than anything. Kai spat at the closest.
"Filthy corpse. You give us a bad name." Unfazed by Kai's contempt it swung both axes at once. Kai leapt back. He readied himself for the closing horde for the second time today.

Weaving through the grave markers, Kai ducked the heavy swings of the creatures until he could aim a true strike at a gaggle of the creatures. With a sweep of the blade, Kai sent a wave of destruction through the boney figures. He had cleared himself enough room to fight, now he just had to keep them at bay.

Kai's vicious onslaught caused the zombie army to pause in their assault. The cold, eerie grins regarded him without emotion. Kai had the sense that a cunning, malign intelligence was planning their next move. This only served to irritate the Grombie hero further, for it illustrated the depths of Zero's cowardice.
