Madison hummed her way to the cafeteria, taking a deep breath when she stepped outside the dormitory. The festive decorations really had her in a good mood, and the news that they would be permitted time off for shopping was the most amazing thing that had happened to her since Kouki moved in. So to speak. The trainee kept up the light hum all the way through the cafeteria line, too, and she loaded up her tray with a glass of orange juice, yogurt, and a bagel. YUM.
Nothing was going to get her down today~ not a single thing. Especially not when she turned to the seating area and spotted a familiar face. "Jordan!" she called out, waving with her free hand, then wincing as the tray threatened to overbalance. She steadied the juice before it could spill, then walked over to where he sat.
"Looking for company?"

"Good company is always welcome," Jordan replied, and smiled over the rim of his cup at Maddie. From the empty plate and the fact that he was answering coherently, it appeared that he'd already had breakfast and was just taking his time over more coffee. "Doing okay?" he asked.

"Yeah, pretty good~ ugh, I don't know how you can stand that coffee. God, I miss Starbucks," Madison sighed as she put her tray down. "Frappuccino with whii~iip... I'm going to get, like, eight of them when I go shopping. Shopping! Jordan, I am officially in heaven. Practically," she informed him, grinning and taking a bite out of her bagel.
"How 'bout you?" she mumbled, around said bagel. It seemed having the crush thing resolved had also resulted in a bit less posturing and posing around the other Phoenix... for good or ill.

"It's pretty awful, but at least it's coffee, which is more than can be said for most of what comes out of Starbucks," Jordan said. "Rank heresy against the true name of the Great Bean." He took a sip of his coffee and made a face. "Of course, this stuff's pretty rank too. I think I'll indulge myself and get some good coffee when I go out to shop."
"Pretty good. Looking forward to an expedition to the outside world," he answered. "One that doesn't involve mental or physical trauma or crushing embarrassment, anyway." He laughed. It was a relief to see that she had relaxed; he was grateful that the warm, comfortable friendship was undamaged.

Madison swallowed her bite of bagel, then stuck out her tongue. "You gonna teach me how the Great Bean is done sometime, Boss? You can pry my tasty Starbucks out of my cold, dead hands, though. Sorry." She punctuated the statement by taking a long drink from her glass of juice.
"... I'm going to buy, like. Shampoo and stuff. And get my nails done. I've missed that so, so much... Oh man, I feel like such a wuss admitting that, but... anyone calls me that, I'll fight 'em. It works for Robert, right?"
Because taking Robert as a role model is a good plan. Yes.

"Of course," Jordan said, with a look of unassailable dignity. "I suppose I can't fault you for having a sweet tooth. I just want you to know that I refuse to recognize that stuff as real coffee. " He grinned at her.
"Anyone who calls you a wuss can expect a short but spirited rebuttal from me and Ferros," he assured her. "Liking to be well groomed isn't a bad thing. I think Robert just has too much testosterone. Sometimes he has to get some of it out of his system all at once in a massive burst of macho."

"Hah! Yeah... but hey." Madison leaned in across the table, giving Jordan a conspiratorial look. "I sparred with him the other day... and don't tell anybody, but I totally kicked his butt."
She sat back, looking satisfied and a little bit smug, and took another bite of bagel.

Jordan grinned wickedly. "Dude. I would've liked to see that. Sounds like it was awesome." He chuckled. "Last time he and I sparred it ended up being more like a stupid wrestling match. I blame him for putting himself within noogie range. You can't expect me to ignore an opportunity like that."

"Oh, I see how it is... but you're not gonna catch me with that kinda trick," Madison said, pointing at Jordan with her yogurt spoon. "Which reminds me... you wanna spar, sometime? I'll take you on whenever. I'm trying to get better with fighting against people with heavier weapons, so..."

"Sure," Jordan said. "How about when you're done with breakfast, actually? Now that we're awake, I'm feeling like getting some exercise." He put down his cup and laced his fingers together, stretching his arms.

"Oh?" Madison raised one eyebrow over, then grinned. "You're on, boss... just as soon as I finish this yogurt."
Yes. That was intensely threatening.

"A good breakfast is important to keep your energy up." Jordan leaned on the table, waiting for Maddie to finish eating.
We get to fight! Ferros's growl was gleeful and anticipatory.
You sound like a little kid who just got given a lollipop.
I always liked eyeball flavor, Ferros said absently.
... That's disgusting.

The yogurt was duly finished. Madison stretched and stood up when she was done. "Okay. I dunno how long after eating you're supposed to wait before fighting, but I'm ready to go. If I get a stomach cramp or something, wait for me to get over it before you hit me with your hammer?"
She dumped her tray in the clean-up area, then nodded towards the door with a smile.

"I think that's swimming, but all right, you have a deal," Jordan replied. He likewise deposited his tray and dishes in the bin, sighing internally - kitchen duty later, ugh - and headed for the door.
The mist was thicker than usual today, the training grounds barely visible from a distance. "Going to be nice to see the sky again," Jordan commented. He stretched again, cracked his knuckles, and held his hand out to summon Ferros. "You ready?"

"The sky? What's that?" Madison said, dryly. "God, what I wouldn't give for a day on a real SoCal beach right now." She made a face at the sky in general, then mimicked Jordan's stretching movements before summoning her own weapon. As always, the scabbard and sword-belt felt reassuring around her waist.
"Always." She grinned and drew one blade, then another.
