The night was young and so was the youma - long and lanky, stalking the streets like a twisted and tall cartoon man made of shadow. It was born recently, probably mere hours ago and sent into the world to wreak havoc. It overturned trash cans and benches with its long arms, pushing into and scraping against cars parked at an apartment complex. Alarms went off in a shrill scream, piercing through the night air and it shrieked along with them. People's lights went on in their homes but they dare not go outside. Monsters were outside.
It was drawn to light, and in that moment, began to claw its way up to a third story window that remained innocently open. People were screaming and hurriedly trying to call police all while the Tall Man's rakelike hands curled around the sill. Its breath was ragged, like a transient with the flu, fluid in its lungs making it wheeze uncontrollably. But youma didn't need to breathe. Inside lay two young children cuddled together in their beds, sound asleep to the chaos lurking just beyond their dreamscape. Parents and children alike were yelling, screaming, and all of it to no avail. The youma soundly ignored them all, intent on chewing the little ones to bits. Dinner was served.

Micah spent most of her time in her powered form. It seemed like an obligation now, like something she had to do. Maybe, she reasoned as the white fuku burned her skin, I will get used to the sensation of strangeness. Maybe I will becomes what I need to be if I desensitize myself to this intruder. It was true, the burning was lessening, and her mind was whirling less and less with the idea that Micah was not what she had been for seventeen years. But the lack of discomfort did not give way to acceptance. Far from it, as a matter of fact. She had simply stopped caring. At least for now. Perhaps it was the shock wearing off, perhaps it was a stage of her own, personal acceptance. Whatever it was, it had quickened Micah to sneak out of her house during the darkness of night to do what ever it was she was supposed to do.
This time she spent most of her time wandering around, trying to find something to do with herself. Patrolling, one older senshi had told her. Alone or as a team, the senshi patrolled the night, looking for signs of chaos and danger. But what kind of danger?
Evidently that kind. As Micah rounded the corner a slender man scaled the walls of a home, reaching into the room of a sleeping child. Micah didn't know what side this monster came from or where he came from, but that didn't really matter to Micah at that moment. As her boot heels clicked on the pavement, signaling her arrival, Micah grabbed a large block of concrete from a top a dumpster beside her. The training with Jett had paid off, and her arms were slowly becoming stronger. For that reason it was easy for Micah to hurl the cement rock at the creature.
"Hey Ugly," she cried, coming to a stop below it. "How about you let those kids go and come meet a real predator?" Her lips split into a wide grin as she finished speaking.

A sharp hiss escaped the creature's lungs as concrete suddenly connected with it. The children inside the room it was leaning into had awoken with a start and shrieked for their parents. The meal forgotten, the youma turned to face one particular senshi. A long purple tongue exited the mouth to scale across sharp teeth. A dinner of powered starseed would far outweigh any number of small, mundane meals. A starseed could sustain a youma for a ridiculous amount of time, leading all of them to hunt for the tender morsels as often as they could get onto earth.
And now one was staring the youma right in the face. Creeping across the metal roofs of the covered parking, it sighed and sagged this way and that. There was no way she could have infinite ammunition, but being a youma, all it could think about was digging around in her chest. Lovely lovely senshi chest... that's where the real meal was.
After pondering something or other for a few moments, it suddenly dropped onto the pavement like so much tar and skittered towards her, using long sharpened nails to swipe at her lower legs. It kept low to the ground like a lizard, hissing and snarling with inhuman lungs as people screamed and pointed. Some were even crowding to the windows, wondering what the terrorist and the monster were up to.

"That's right, Ugly," Micah goaded, stepping lightly backwards and sideways. Away from the children. Micah glanced up at the window, seeing nothing but ceiling. The wailing, however, told the story of their survival. If she knew nothing else, Micah knew that when babies were involved, then all rules were broken and it was every man for himself. Her eyes slid back to the monster, still slipping along the pavement like something out of a horror film. Micah pulled a face at it and took another step back. Well... phase one was complete. She'd gotten the monster away from the kids. However, Micah had failed to plan beyond that point. She searched around for something to defend herself with, anything to hold off the beast.
Someone had discarded a piece of heavy oak. No doubt a broken leg from some piece of furniture. That would do just fine. Micah snatched it up and took her stance, exactly like Jett had taught her. Time to make a stand. The burning and itching from Micah's fuku was forgotten now; replaced by some strange wailing call. So this is what it means, eh? Micah tossed the leg from one hand to the other, gauging her distance. From a far enough span, Micah could close in on an opponent. However, from short range, and this was only a theory... she might be able to use the forward momentum to power a strike of some sort. No time like the present to try out said theory.
Closer... closer... "Velociraptor Dash!" Once the monster was close enough Micah shouted the name of her attack and held on tight to the slab of wood as her legs gained minds of their own, jettisoning her forward. The world around Micah was a blur, only the monster was visible, her target, looming only feet away. Please hit. Please connect with this beast. Micah had never before tested her limits with this attack, so she was banking on one or two shots. Three if she was lucky and in top condition.

If youma could know what they were up against, none of them would go after senshi. Thinking was not part of their design, so when Acubens charged ahead at blinding speed, the youma wasn't sure how to react at first. All it could see was a starseed getting closer and closer... and then a table leg, square in its shoulder. The youma managed to ooze partly out of the way of the charging senshi, but the weapon she carried cracked over its right side and sent it sliding sideways. Craning its long neck, it moved to bite down on the senshi's leg as she passed, wanting desperately to feel flesh in its teeth and blood in its throat. Elongated fangs were mere millimeters from her thigh when crimson boots connected with its skull.
The creature black as night shrieked in surprise and backed up, slamming itself (and its injured shoulder) into a large metal dumpster. Acubens remained unharmed. One eternal senshi perched herself atop the metal parking coverings close by, but did not wish to interfere, especially if the other senshi wanted to finish it off. Brown eyes watched and waited.
Once its vision had cleared, the youma stalked (halfway, really, it was more like a lumbering limp) out into the open to try at Acubens' legs again. It was getting desperate and the heaving noises coming from its lungs were a good indication of how much damage it had taken. The eternal senshi nodded towards the one less experienced, but no doubt just as brave. Kallichore admired that in new senshi. "If you need assistance, let me know." she said coolly, and made herself comfortable.

As Micah felt the teeth getting closer and closer to her calf she cried out, expecting pain. So expectant was she that her nerves actually began to spark at the thought of it in preparation. So, it goes without saying, that when Micah felt no attack, she had to stop and take an account of what had just happened. She turned around the face the beast, have rocketted right past him in her speed -- having almost hit a wall int he process. She pressed herself against the aforementioned wall and bore her teeth at the beast in a primal show of domination. As it lumbered after her she took note that her attack had taken it's toll. One or two more blows like that to it and Micah would have her second youma victory under her belt.
A movement beyond the youma caught her attenion. Her grimmace faded as she took in the apperence of the other senshi. Wings... why didn't Micah have wings? Micah took in the apperence of her own rump, rotating her hips to get a better view. Micah wanted wings... A hiss brought her back to reality. Oh yeah, the monster.
The monster. Micah's grimace returned. For the second time Micah was encountering a monster like this when one of those strange alien races were around. First was the cat with the raccoon thing, now it was this sanguine senshi with Slenderman. Two was too much to be a coincidence in Micah's book. They were up to something. Micah's temper boiled inside of her gut as the thing closed in on her. A good thing about this was that, evidently, these things didn't seem to learn. It was falling into Micah's, admittedly, half baked plan.
"I wonder if the pavement will make you any prettier," Micah goaded with a wry laugh, twirling the make-shift bat in her fist. "Because this time I'm going for your head. I never have been one for suffering." It only hissed at her. Micah braced herself again as the monster came closer. Closer.
"Velociraptor Dash!" This time Micah felt an ache in her legs as she ran. So her theory had been true. Each time she attacks her power diminished. While no one else could tell the difference, Micah felt slower. Damn... This one had to work, because a third time, if she could attack at all, would have no impact.

The youma didn't know what to do next. When its senshi meal came rocketing back at it, what one would have called a brain shut down and the body felt the full force of Acubens' impact. It shuddered and skid across the ground on its neck and face, slowly leaking the tar that it would have called blood. Too much was left as a smear on the ground and when the body finally came to rest, it was disintegrating - indicating the senshi had saved the day. The youma's final breath left in a slurred wheeze and the eternal senshi perched high above dropped to the ground. She nodded in approval.
"Well done!" she said, turning to the senshi decked out in neutral colors. Judging by the call name of the attack, Kallichore guessed she was the senshi of dinosaurs, which, to her, sounded really, really cool. Other senshi had butterflies and kittens and googly eyeballs but this girl had a sphere Kallichore could relate to.
Now all they needed was a senshi of laserbeams and/or chainsaws and they'd all be set.
The eternal walked up to Miss Dinosaur and went to inspect her. "Are you hurt? It looked like it wanted to take a bite out of you. Any injuries?" All the while, some residents of the building came out to watch the two senshi converse. Obviously the little children were up, watching in wide-eyed fascination. The girl had dinosaur strength, and what little kid didn't love dinosaurs? After a few moments of silence, some of them started to clap and cheer, raising their voices in praise for the newly-anointed defender of justice.

Acubens was still recovering from the rush of the fight. It took her a moment, as always, to remember where she was. Breathing hard and bending over, she tried to collect herself. Where had that thing come from? What was it doing to those kids? On eof those questions Acubens already knew the answer to. That red senshi had brought it. Acubens growled and whirled to the other, teeth borne as she did so. "You," she began darkly, taking one menacing step towards her.
She couldn't finish her statement, however, as cheers broke out around her. She straightened suddenly, her head swimming with the sudden motion. What in the world? Applause? Wait. This was wrong. That red b***h had summoned that youma, and they were applauding her? A pat on Acubens' back sent her stumbling forward. No, not just her... they were applauding Acubens too. Her temper was stomped out by confusion. But... the red senshi had brought that monster upon them... right? Acubens looked back at the eternal, brows in a stright line. What was going on?
Acubens shook off a hand that had landed on her shoulder. Confused or not, she did not want to be touched. Least of all now that her prior theory seemed shoddy. Was it possible these people just didn't know the eternal senshi had called the monster? Or had she not, and the monster came from somewhere else?
"No," she finally said, turned half away from the senshi. "No, it didn't get me."

Kallichore saw the teeth and raised her eyebrows. She was foolhardy like that once. She still was, on occasion, and didn't once hesitate to bite one particular Negaverse agent on the leg when the opportunity arose. But bearing one's teeth at another senshi? The eternal stood her ground. "Me? And what is that supposed to mean, exactly?" She tilted her gray head and watched Acubens with a curious eye. Some of the children behind them were mimicking the senshi's attack, gritting their teeth and roaring like dinosaurs they'd seen in movies. One little girl even had her hands scrunched up like a T-Rex.
"Looks like you have a few fans, senshi. I'm glad you could handle the youma on your own. I didn't want to intrude if you wanted a killing blow. Some people don't like that." Brown eyes looked off into the distance somewhere and focused on nothing in particular. "I sensed that one at a distance, but then I felt your presence. You got here first. I'm impressed. And you managed to not only dodge, but kill it. You should be proud of yourself." The eternal made to pat the senshi on the shoulder, but decided against it. Acubens didn't seem like the type who wanted to be touched. "You saved many lives tonight. Don't ever forget that."
Her voice was even, but Kallichore had to wonder what all the menacing attitude was all about. Who had awakened this girl? Didn't they tell her anything? ....oh god was it Derpraline? Kallichore hoped to whatever higher power was out there that it wasn't Derpraline.

Acubens pulled her shoulder away from Kallichore, even as she saw the other senshi pull her hand away from here. She scoffed as she was praised by the red senshi and whirled on her heels, shoving civilians aside as she went. She didn’t want applause. She wanted her life back. And people flaunting their normalcy before her wasn’t going to help. In fact, it only made her temper worse. One caught her shoulder and Acubens loosed a feral growl at the woman. She was released immediately.
Idiots. They knew nothing. Nothing.
The children who had so recently been mimicking her stopped and watched as she stalked away, words bubbling up in her chest, threatening to come out. And why shouldn’t they? Acubens stopped in exit and turned again, lips set in an angry line, eyes watering as she watched the other senshi.
“So, you’re going to praise me… after you set me up?” The chatter and praise around them both stopped. Acubens continued. “It’s odd, really. I’m new at this whole thing, but it seems like whenever I come across one of you I monster seems to be close in toe.” She cocked her head to the side in challenge, muscles of her neck bulging in the strain not to wail her complaints. “Explain that to me.”

(*has permission to do this!*)
Being unable to accept one's blessings and subsequent responsibilities was understandable. Kallichore herself was unusual in that she loved what she did right off the bat. She hated being a regular, mundane person, but she could understand how hard it would be to come to terms with awakening to a higher purpose without your consent or prior knowledge. The eternal was quite accepting of these emotions and went through them herself one or two times.
But taking out one's rage and frustration on civilians? Unacceptable.
Kallichore made to follow Acubens on her infantile tirade, apologizing to the bewildered people and their children. She tried desperately to keep the anger from playing across her face, and as soon as she caught up to the other senshi, red gloves hooked a part of her bodice and all but dragged the girl around the corner. Fueled by distrust and utter embarrassment, Kallichore couldn't stop herself from wrapping one hand around the senshi's neck to shove her forcibly into the brick wall of the apartment complex. No one was around to see them, but Acubens' attitude left Kallichore with precious few options. She had to learn. She had to know the truth.
"Listen." came a rasp from clenched teeth. "I don't know who awakened you. It doesn't matter now, but let's get one thing straight - whether you like it or not, you were blessed with powers to save people, not shove them around. Not yell at them. We have a hard enough time with the public without babies in fukus throwing temper tantrums."
Kallichore was using her weight and the strength given to her by the regalia she wore to hold the senshi in place. Her grip was firm and not hard enough to choke, but her other hand on Acubens' bare chest had a bite to it. "And secondly, I do not set anyone up except Negaverse agents and their friends. Evil people. You see this?" Her eyes made to point at the crisp white of her own fuku. "People in white don't pull s**t like this. I was going to kill that thing before you stepped in, but no, I let you have the battle. I watched and I would have stepped in if you needed it. That's what senshi do. Senshi don't summon youma - evil people do."
Bring her face mere inches from Acubens, Kallichore finished her speech in a low tone. "So you have two options - you can never pick up the pen again and pretend like this never happened. Or, you can put on your big girl panties and learn to live with who you are." And with that, the eternal stepped back and let the senshi fall to her feet.

Acubens had been expecting some reaction. Perhaps that was why she had done what she did; said the things she had. After all, as a child who cannot gain the attention of her parents, Acubens had to do what she could to find someone who would take an interest in her. After all, Laoise, that lanky, bitchy cat who woke her up wouldn’t do s**t to help her out. Still, she hadn’t been expecting physical violence. She squeaked, entirely in contrast to her angry words, and was lead away very much like a kitty by her angry mother. Still, while she could do nothing but follow, she was going to be damned if she went without a fight. Who knew where this mad senshi was taking her now! She wasn’t going to be a statistic, not tonight.
And then the wall hit her back. The air went out of Acubens in a painful huff as she hit, eyes almost bugging out of her skull. Still, the fight had not been force from her as the air had been. As Kallichore held her by the neck and chest, Acubens grabbed the arms and bit her fingernails into the flesh she could find. Her teeth remained borne at the other, growling as she kicked and wiggled in the other’s grasp. She could still breath, which was a blessing, and allowed her to keep fighting. All the while, as the other senshi explained to her how she saw things, Acubens could only see the blatant aggression. The threats. The anger.
When she was released, Acubens coughed a few times, rubbing her neck as she did. Her golden eyes watered with frustration and anger as she stood back up to look at the other.
“Funny how wisdom tends to lose its weight when hiss through clenched jaws.” She straightened her fuku out and dusted herself off, tossing her matted curls over her shoulder. “The way I see it, whenever I encounter another senshi a monster is never far behind them. I was simply stating my case, and you come on with this whole ‘bad cop’ routine.” Acubens scoffed again and adjusted her brooch. “Your threatening demeanor and angry tone don’t help your cause, darling.” The name came out with syrupy sweetness, through a forced smile. “If you wanted to make a point, a civil conversation would have done.” Any hypocrisy in her statements was lost on Acubens.

Kallichore cocked her head and huffed, a puff of her gray hair moving with the air. "Funny how civility didn't seem to make a dent in that thick skull of yours before. Now that you're in time out, you want to whine?" The whole darling bit smacked of all the other names senshi had called her in the past - hobo, psycho, ragdoll, dearie. Really people, is it so much to ask to be more creative? Acubens was acting like a child and to Kallichore, deserved to be treated as such.
"You stopped being a senshi when you take out your anger on civilians. Being a senshi is a privilege. It's the Negaverse that goes around stealing energy, killing people and summoning monsters. You want to be like them? Fine. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to take you into their arms, but that will simply prove my point." She shook her head, sighing in an almost resigned sort of way. Her tone wasn't angry anymore, but simply... remorseful? She felt more like a parent with a spoiled child than anything else. Whoever awakened this senshi either didn't explain things properly, or they butted heads like nobody's business.
Rubbing the bridge of her nose with two gloved fingers, Kallichore shifted her weight onto her other leg. "At the end of the day, what matters is that those kids are safe. They have families to return to and they can sleep the rest of the night knowing someone saved them. They admired you, you know. Some people still think we're out here to do good, not to harm people." Brown eyes stared at the pavement in thought. "What matters is that we're alive and can return to our own families and we can fight another day."

So she was pulling the sounded puppy routine was she? Acubens wiped her nose, running a little from the constant cold-weather patrols. She was swift on her way to getting sick. She sniffed and watched as Kallichore spoke, really not registering any of it. She was too stubborn. Too childish. She simply crossed her arms over her chest and chose not to understand what was being said to her. At this point Kallichore ws only throwing words at a brick wall.
When she finally stopped speaking, Acubens turned to her with bored eyes, temper having died down effectivley, but that undertone if irritation still quite alive in her stomach.
"Are you quite through with your pity party," she yawned. "For someone who insinuates they are so much wiser than me, you have some oftly juvenile tactics. The whole sympathy ploy, really? 'But I believed in you' whatever." She leveled her gaze with Kallichore's, eyes have fizzled down from the angry yellow back to thier normal placid golden. "You can preach civility when you stop shoving people into walls. Don't you know that when you lose your temper the other side wins?"

"Pfft." was all she could say.
The gray haired senshi shook her head in disappointment. "No matter what you may think, I was in your position before. We all are, when we first start out. It's where you go from here that really defines you. But enough about that. You aren't listening and frankly, I'm tired." Brown eyes narrowed and Kallichore wondered if there would be a time when she'd have to beat Acubens in a serious way. She hoped it wasn't the case. The fewer they lost to the arms of Chaos, the better.
Lifting an arm in half a shrug, the eternal turned away. "Maybe you'll want to talk later, after you've grown up a little and calmed down a great deal. Until then, keep yourself and those around you safe, senshi." In a brilliant flash of white, Kallichore lit onto the roof of the next apartment building and bounded off in search of more youma to kill. Perhaps the city would be safer yet tonight.
