Leto was perched on the top of a closed dumpster in an alley not far from the bar that she had agreed to meet Ilmenite at. She waited patiently, her long slender tail wrapped around her legs, red eyes peering into the darkness.

She had sent a reluctant Al-Janah to wait for a tall, white haired man at the bar to let him know that she wasn't able to make it but needed to meet with him elsewhere. Here. The last thing she wanted was for any Negaverse agent to think that she was standing them up when she was trying her best to keep the alliance between them strong.

So she waited... and waited... And frowned a tiny kitty frown when she realized that there was a chance that maybe Al-Janah didn't wait around to pass on her message to Ever. Or that Ever didn't show at all.

She curled up as comfortably as she possibly could have on top of the cold, hard dumpster and rested her head on her front paws, watching the alley and every person that walked by.

Asking Veer to do anything was a crap shoot -- but if she'd invoked the name 'Al-Janah' he'd probably at least agreed well enough to go check it out. Unfortunately, his patience was thin, his attention span short, and after about five minutes he'd left a note, instead.

It meant that Ever waited around a good fifteen or twenty minutes before finally the bouncer noticed his frustrated attitude, his q-tip like appearance, and handed over the note in a bored manner.

When he appeared at the end of the alley way, he was grumbly and annoyed, likely because he hadn't even gotten a drink out of this deal, hadn't even managed to step foot inside the place. He wore a hat, as promised, a tight-fitting knit cap with a low brim, tousled white curls poking out of the bottom. This, combined with the fact that he was digging for a cigarette even as he rounded the corner, would hopefully be enough for her to be sure.

Leto's ears perked at the sound of someone approaching the alley that she was in. Her eyes turned to slits as she peered through the darkness to get a good look at him- tall, with a hat on and white hair peaking out. Ah ha! He got the message after-all, whether or not Veer stuck around to deliver it himself was another story.

She quickly scrambled to her feet, dropping to the ground on all-fours. She wasted no time in approaching him. When she met him in the alley, she sat at his feet and cleared her throat.

Her eyes were wide as she stared up at him. "Down here," was all she said. She had hoped that her camoflage colored coat would make it obvious enough to Ever that she was Leto.

It wasn't unusual, in Destiny City, for young people to live double lives; to walk around uncomfortably in their civilian forms and only to feel at ease once they powered up, became whatever power they were destined to be.

Ever and Ilmenite were an oddity. When she'd met him in uniform, even in the midst of spray painting a wall, even dressed down by the duffel bag and the cigarette hanging from his mouth, Ilmenite had seemed stiff and somewhat uncomfortable, hadn't had the relaxed self-confidence that other Negaverse agents so easily fell into. Leto wouldn't know that it was better than it had one been, that he had wriggled and writhed in his Lieutenant's uniform and that the General was starting to grow on him, but she would notice that he was different now:

In civilian form, he looked relaxed. His eyes, instead of having that closed-off element, had a flicker of good humor in them, even if it was a bit of humor at someone else's expense. There were holes in his pants, one bony knee sticking out into the cold, his boots barely held together with duct tape, and he looked like a charity case more than anything else, but at least Ever seemed comfortable with himself, chin lifted and posture relaxed and hands limp in his pockets.

In this form, he took one look down at her, confused for a moment before it clicked and he burst into laughter.

To say that Ilmenite- no, Ever- was more comfortable and relaxed now in the alley in comparison to when she had last met him powered up was an understatement. It was different, compared to the other Negaverse agents that she had met as civilians. But it was comforting to know that he would not be business-like tonight when that was the last thing she wanted.

However.

Him bursting into laughter wasn't quite what she was expecting or hoping for.

She reached out with her right front paw and quickly went to swat at his leg. "Quit laughing at me, it's not funny." If she was human, she would've had a very deep-set frown upon her face.

"I can't go in the bar like this," she said, as if that wasn't obvious.

"No s**t, honey." He grinned down at her, helplessly amused, his head tilted to the side as he reached up to haul off the hat. Ever's hair was a hopeless mess, curling up in every direction, still desperately in need of a haircut. He'd been meaning to get one for weeks -- months, maybe, even. Eventually Zac would push hard enough...

"You too, huh. Okay. Well, we're working on this thing, I guess, hopefully we can figure out what's causing it...." Watching her, his eyes were still glimmering, tempted to haul her up into his arms the same way he did the other cat in his life. Part of him liked this. Fancy that.

"Do you have people taking care, at least? Bringing you goodies to eat? Obviously you can get out, but do you have access to your home?" Amused, yes, but at least Ever was trying to be helpful. Better than some.

When Ever pulled his hat off, Leto's first instinct was to somehow try to figure out how to scramble up there and play with his curls. She watched wide-eyed, her tail flicking ever so slightly on the ground, before she snapped out of it and her eyes moved down to meet his.

At least there was some comfort in knowing that the Negaverse was trying to figure this s**t out.

"I do. My roomie is a cat now too- also part of my Court. One of the guys comes in through the mirror in my apartment to feed us and he left a window over the fire escape open."

She shrugged her shoulders slightly and leaned into his leg. If she was stuck as a cat she may as well act like one, damnit.

"I owe you a raincheck for a few drinks. When I'm human again." When, not if. She refused to believe that she would be stuck like this forever.

"I imagine you do." He grinned again, the expression creeping up on him, fingers tangled into his hair. Considering. After a moment, he thrust the hat back onto his head and stepped back, rooting through his pockets. A pen, he had, but no paper, so instead he tore the lid off of a nearly-empty pack of cigarettes and set it back in his pocket carefully.

"You'll have to hold it in your mouth or something, but I can give you my number...." He was already moving to do it, his handwriting almost disturbingly neat -- Catholic School neat. He blew on the page as if the ink needed to dry, all of it weirdly old-fashioned in this day and age.

"This is good. You can call me if you have any updates on the cat thing, too, if you figure anything out." Capping the pen, he crouched down to offer the stiff piece of cardboard, eyebrows raised. "Or if you need help. Or if you find yourself human again."

She watched as he scrolled his phone number onto the top of the cigarette pack. Realistically she was just watching the pen move. Why the hell did she feel the need to play with everything? God, cats are stupid.

"You know, I don't know your name." She laughed when he crouched down with his piece of cardboard. "And when I'm human again, we'll reschedule our drinking date." She was pretty sure she'd need a few stiff drinks after this cat bullshit was over and done-with.

She leaned in and took the piece of cardboard from his hand with her teeth and held it in her mouth. Now she had the task of getting back home without losing it.

"I'm Ever." As she took the cardboard, he reached out absently to scratch behind her ears -- and he, at least, knew how to pet a cat, putting some elbow behind it, digging in to soft fur. Unafraid that he might break her, and also utterly unconcerned about the fact that she was usually human. He'd been spending enough time with kittyZac to get used to the strangeness, no longer worried about it.

"We'll get drinks. Maybe here, or maybe somewhere else. I figured somewhere quieter was better, you wouldn't be all about my usual haunts." A grin, as he tugged his hand back, shrugging somewhat apologetically. "Don't worry, though, the night's not wasted, I'll just go a-hunting for the rest of the evening."

She leaned into his hand while he scratched her behind the ear, instantly happy that he was much better at this than Veer. She momentarily leaned her head down to put the paper on the ground and quickly place her paw on top of it to keep it from getting away before moving back to his hand. "Quinn," was all she said in response to his name.

"Doesn't need to be quiet. Maybe I'd like your usual places!" She leaned down to pick the cardboard back up in her mouth and nodded.

"Have fun," she mumbled with the paper in her mouth. With one last rub against his legs she padded off to find her way back home.
