Chariaux approached the commandant's office with a soft hum and knocked on the door, the ensuing grunt from within beckoning him to enter. Carefully, he creaked open the door, hovered in front of the desk and genuflected in respect.

"What is it that is so important that our commandant asked myself to be here in post-haste?", the android asked.

Without batting so much of an eye at the seven foot android in his office, the commandant shuffled some papers on his desk and started, "I know this is sudden, Chariaux, but this is an emergency. Reports indicate that a monochrome army has risen in the land and is marching to our cities, intent unknown. They've been popping up everywhere, and people are getting demoralized by their sheer numbers, so we've been spread very thin.

"Your mission is regarding this regiment that is camping towards the north-east. You, as well as Talwyn, are to go there and discover what it is that this army is after and decimate the camp. You will be authorized to use any of the weapons in armory psi and are to send word to me immediately when you discover anything of interest. Do you have any questions?"

Chariaux stood up from his position and made a saluting gesture before his query: "Just the two of us? Are the numbers in such a state that you can only spare two of the men in this faculty on this mission?"

The commandant sighed and replied, "This army seems to have a demoralizing effect on people, and only a few are immune to this mysterious sapping force. Talwyn has proven immune, and you, as an android hopefully will be also. If that is everything, you are dismissed."

Chariaux saluted again and left the room, as he knows better than to disturb the commandant when he doesn't want to be disturbed. At the door to armory psi, a four foot three anthropomorphic cat stood there impatiently, holding a large white case. When she saw the android approach, she positively lit up and started chattering.

"You must be Chariaux. Hi, I'm Talwyn. I'll be your tech support partner for this mission today. Everything we need to contact base is here - wireless transmitters, data collecting machines, everything. Have you been inside armory psi? Here, I'll show you ..."

Talwyn darted around the room showing Chariaux all the new toys and high powered gadgets which is in armory psi, while the android only periodically nodded his head and wondered if this is how she is going to act while in the field. Eventually, Chariaux settled on a giant laser gun, several smaller conventional laser guns, some regular guns and a fist full of animated rings.

Sooner than not, the pair of them started to head off in the direction given. The trip was mostly uneventful, except the portion where they saw another regiment engaging the monochrome army. The monochrome almost looked burlesque in its motions, but the sheer numbers make up for that - they easily overwhelm the parley defenses and proceeded to raid each domestic home.

Eventually, the two of them arrived at this plateau overlooking a camp down below. Talwyn, who was talking for most of the trip, was told to be quiet and serious now that they are in enemy territory by Chariaux, and perhaps it's because he's almost twice her height, she actually did shut up for once.

"Chariaux, the giant laser is going to take some time to charge after it's used, but it can probably take out a third of the camp from here. Everything considered, it would take about an hour to have a full charge again at best, and longer if the weather worsens."

"We are going to want to get closer after we fire this. After all, I do not think that you can gather intelligence at this distance. Stand back."

Holding on the over-sized laser cannon, he hovered over the edge of the plateau, aiming the beam at a field where a portion of the army is training.

One bright flash of light and thousands of newtons of force later, the field is now a charred stain on the ground. They descend the face of the plateau to more directly engage the enemy, who is now in a panicked state.
