Alex shuffled down the hallway slowly, stopped, looked up, scratched the back of his head, then began shuffling along again, letting his arm fall back down to his side.
He was dressed in his usual attire. Tattered white collared shirt, and dark fitted jeans. The tie that dangled loosely from the collar of his shirt was long and black, with a bloody red hand print depicted on the front. The skeletal toe of his left foot poked out from a hole in his sock, and scraped along the hall floor with a little scritching sound. His face was set in a frown, his lips pursed as he continued to shamble along.
How had he gotten so lost? He'd thought he would just be able to wander the halls, find his way to all the places that mattered (basically the cafeteria and the library). He never thought the school would be so big.
He had passed the odd student as he ambled along at his painfully slow pace, but hadn't got up the nerve to ask any of them where he was or if they might be able to show him around. He didn't really want to look like a complete moron in front of new people. Zombies had a bad enough reputation for being idiots as it was.
So he just continued onward, hoping to pass something that looked at least remotely familiar. The school office perhaps. That was really the only part of the school he'd even seen before going off to register for his dorm room. Probably he should have asked them for a map...

Siddie's morning classes had finished; she had a good few hours today before afternoon class today, which meant that she could go back to her room and take the druttens out for a walk. She hurried, smiling absentmindedly. Chili was with her most of the time, but she liked having all of her favorites outside at once; the way they played together always cheered her up. She almost didn't notice the zombie boil she passed in the hall.
A few moments later, though, the lost, confused expression he'd been wearing registered in her head, and she stopped and turned, looking back. She'd never seen him before, she noted. Maybe he was a new student? And if he was a new student, that would explain how lost her looked. She turned and walked back more sedately. "Excuse me?" she asked. "Do you need some help?"

The words startled him, and made him straighten up from his slouched position. Turning around slowly, his expression one of surprise, he eyed the ghoul up and down before realizing she had asked him a question and he was -quite rudely- not answering and just standing there like a total lump.
"Um...ah..uh..Ya--Yah. Yes, I mean. Yes. I could use some help."
His body almost seemed to deflate with relief, and he shambled closer to the ghoul. She was certainly interesting, so dark... He reached out a hand towards her.
"I'm Xander! Well, Alexander. You can call me that, or Alex, or whatever really." He laughed nervously, reaching up with is free hand to run fingers through his shaggy white hair, but he gave her a warm smile. He was very aware that he was probably coming off as a bumbling idiot at this point, but for some reason she had completely thrown him off guard with her sudden invitation to help.
"I'm..new here. Just got myself enrolled, actually, and thought I'd have a look around and get myself a little more familiar with the surroundings. But..." He paused, realizing he was going to have to tell her that he had no idea where he was and feeling like a complete fool "I'm uh...lost.." he muttered, eyes dropping the the floor in embarrassment.

Siddie shook the boil's hand, giving him a friendly smile. Her handclasp was light but steady. "My name is Obsidian, but please, call me Siddie. I thought you might be new here; I haven't seen you around the school. Don't worry, it is pretty confusing at first. I got lost a few times when I first arrived too." He seemed so anxious and confused; she could totally sympathize with that. It might be just a new zombie thing, but she didn't think so - as far as she knew, Sammy hadn't been like this.
"We're in the mad science hall right now," she told him. "What room are you looking for? Do you have a class schedule yet, or are you just getting familiar with the area?"

Obsidian. The name suited her well! He looked back up and smiled warmly. She probably had no idea how good it felt just being near somebody for him. Being away from his family, from his horde, it was almost painful for him. But he'd told himself it would be ok, that once he got here he would make friends, and everything would be fine. He actually hadn't met any other zombies besides those that were in his family, but he knew that there were many that had no family at all.
"Ah no..don't actually have a class schedule yet. I wasn't looking for anything in particular...Just trying to familiarize myself with the area" He nodded. "It would be nice to know where the one might go to eat, though. Oh, and the library, of course!" His eyes lit up a little at the thought of finding the library. All those books! "And uh..anything else you might think is important to know about, of course."

"I can certainly show you where the cafeteria and library are," Siddie nodded. "The cafeteria even has some pretty good brains, for cafeteria food anyway. Here, come along this way." She started back in the direction that she'd been heading when she passed Xander originally, glancing back over her shoulder to be sure he was following. "You can also go out to the maul food splort when you've got the time, but that's a little more expensive."
Something stirred in her hood, and a small, blue-furred face peeked lazily at Xander. The drutten squeaked at him, then curled back into its comfortable nest.

Yes! Brains! Food! Xander felt like he hadn't eaten in ages. As she began to lead the way, he shambled along behind her, trying to put a little more speed in his step then usual so as not to slow her down any. After all, she was going out of her way to help him.
"So are you...ah...a demon then?" He guessed, trying to make a little small light conversation on their way to the first destination. He hoped he wasn't being too forward in asking. If there was some kind of etiquette to follow he was completely ignorant of such. When the little furry blue face peeked out from her hood his eyes widened in surprise, but his face was quick to break out into a large smile. He'd left his own pets back in his room in the Undead Dorms...of which he was going to have to find his way back to eventually. Hopefully she'd be able to help him out with that as well!

Oh, he was a little slower than she. Siddie slowed down just a little, not enough to embarrass him (hopefully), but enough to make it easier to keep pace. "It's not too far," she said. "You were just headed in the wrong direction. It won't take long to learn your way around," she added quickly.
"Oh, no, I'm just a monster," she answered. "A living shadow. You're a zombie, I'm pretty sure." A friendly, teasing smile. "Unless I'm totally wrong and you're a revenant or something."

He was grateful that she slowed down for him. It was difficult to keep up with his incredibly sluggish lower body reflexes. As they continued to move, he kept an eye out for any distinguishing features of the hall, something he could remember to guide him around for next time. Though mostly he just noticed the mean looking gnomes scurrying around.
They were a little off-putting.
"A living shadow?" That sounded pretty awesome, actually! "Can you like, turn into different shapes and stuff?"
He shambled onward, nodding "Yep, zombie! Was it the rotting smell that gave it away, or my wonderful decomposed leg?" He laughed, and patted at his skeletal left leg, while wondering how far he might be able to throw one of those gnomes...

Siddie considered kicking one of the gnomes as it scurried just a bit too close. ... No, that wouldn't be a very good first impression. She refrained. Even if the beastly little thing had winked at her. "Watch out for the gnomes," she said. "Sometimes they steal things. And they're rude."
"No, my Shadowcraft isn't quite that good yet," she answered. "But I can do this," she added - except that her voice emerged from a patch of shadow on the wall rather than from her mouth. "It's not much," another patch on the other side of the hall added. "But sometimes it's useful."
"It's a nice leg," she protested. "I like bones. My ghoulfriend has a skeletal arm. I think it's cute." She giggled.

Alexander caught a gnome giving him a very dirty look, and glared back at it, instantly on guard from them now that Siddie had confirmed that his feelings of mistrust were certainly warranted.
When she demonstrated her powers, his face lit up with yet another grin. "That's great! I wish I could do something cool like that. I'm sure you'll be an expert in your craft in no time" He nodded slightly, the grin fading into a warm smile.
"Haha, I'm glad you like it." He laughed about the leg comment and then perked up a bit. "Ohhh, is your ghoulfriend a zombie too? I'd like to meet her! Does she stay in the Undead dorms?" he inquired with sincere interest. He'd love to meet other zombies, since he was already feeling quite homesick being away from his undead family.

"Thanks! I'm sure you have talents you haven't discovered yet," Siddie said, smiling. "I've really learned a lot about myself and what I can do while I've been here. When I got here, I wasn't so sure I wanted to be at school, but I really feel at home here now. I've learned a lot and made a lot of friends." She paused and laughed. "I sound like an advertising brochure, don't I? But it's true."
"Yes, she's a zombie," Siddie nodded. "Her name is Sammy - er, Samantha. Her room's in the demon dorms, actually. Long story. But I'm sure she wouldn't mind meeting you."

Alexander was confused. Why would a zombie be staying in the demon dorms? Why would a zombie want to stay in the demon dorms? He had no problems with other races and species, but to him zombie always called to zombie. It was probably just because he was used to being with the horde, however. He had to remind himself that not all zombies had been brought up the same way he had.
"You'll have to introduce me to her." He said happily as he continued to shamble along. And then, "That's what I'm here for, to learn new things. It was a hard decision to make, to leave my family, but I felt like I needed this. It'll just take some getting used to, being away from them." He nodded, as he continued to study the area.
"Is it much further?" he inquired politely.

"I will, next time she's around when I see you." Siddie nodded. "It took me a while to adjust myself. But you'll feel better once you do. Um, if you have questions or anything, you can ask me. Here - " she dug her eyePhone out of her pocket. "Do you have a phone? I can give you my number."
"Oh, it's just around the corner now," she assured him. "Don't let Ginger the lunchlady intimidate you, okay? She doesn't bite. At least I've never seen her bite."

She was being so nice! He hoped his entire experience at the school would be like this one. "I do have one, just a second.." And he buried a hand in his jeans pocket, fishing out his own eyePhone that he'd gotten just before leaving for the school. His parents had insisted that he get one, to keep in bettter contact with them (not that he had complained or anything).
Somehow, though it was fairly new, his eyePhone already looked a little worse for wear, and before he was ready to get her number he had to pick off a bit of something sludgy off of a corner. He looked back to her a bit sheepishly, the entire process having taken some time, as he pushed his mop of hair out of his eyes. "Ready!" and then he raised an eyebrow. "Why would she intimidate me? She isn't a..a fire demon, or something, is she?" His eyes got a little wide at the thought.
