Link was doing much better in the pits, however, he had somehow manage to injury himself the previous week in a win, causing him to stay out of the pit this week. That didn’t mean that Lila wouldn’t let him have fun training. Since his winnings, Lila could see a difference in the male’s attitude of fighting. She honestly didn’t like it.
There were nights the female considered just letting the male go. Fighting was suppose to be something he enjoyed, but the way Link had looked upon leaving the pit the last time was rather pitiful. She shook her head, a dark collar dangling on her belt loop. She had found it the other day, but didn’t know who it belonged to. Someone was sure to claim it someday if she kept it out in the open.
“Come on Link.” Lila spoke softly, leading him to the training pits. “We are going to go easy…right?”
Not wanting to ignore his master, the dark male looked up at her, gave a ‘mokai smile’ and wagged his tail. Link thought that whenever Lila talked, it was good. There was no bad words that would come out of her mouth. He waited for her instructions once inside the pit.(207)

Kuruk walked with K., slowly. He had a limp, very noticeably, on his right side. He grit his jaw together as he walked, trying not to show the pain, for K.'s sake. He could give a damn about what other mokai thought at the moment, K. was concerned, horribly so, and he wanted to right that. He had won, but at a cost, and he hurt himself badly in the process, K. had cried that night after the fight, after she helped him home. She blamed herself, he thought, for how the fight came out. They had trained and done so well the week before when he had gotten injured prior, now, again, he walked with a limp, more severe.
"It will be all right," K. said with a soothing tone as they walked, rather slow. K. didn't have Kuruk on a leash, nor lead today, she didn't want to strain any muscles in his neck or any other area of his body if he pulled. He knew not to exert himself, she hoped, she she let him be. The injury he had taken, though, she felt it was by her own accord. If she hadn't brought him to the illegal pits, if she hadn't needed the money...none of this would have happened.
They walked together and Kuruk strained to keep focused, he felt tired, but eager. He wanted to overcome, push himself, exert energy, and not waste time. He felt like he needed to prepare for something, what that was, he wasn't sure. Instinct told him to be ready.
Ahead, both K. and Kuruk spotted a pair, human and mokai, and K. gave a small wave as they approached, hoping the two were friendly.
"Want to meet someone knew, get your mind off from fighting, training?" at the second word, Kuruk huffed and shook his head.
Kuruk...wanted to train, even now?
K. wasn't sure. She'd have to see.

Upon entering the training pit, Lila was about to shut the gate when she saw the form of two beings walking up. A female human and her mokai, well, limping mokai. She tilted her head a bit, giving a smile as the others started approached. She vaguely wondered if her mokai too had been injured in his last battle to cause him to have such a limp. It was either that, or she took him for a hunt outside the walls, and he was hurt there.
“Hello!” Lila called out, the gate of the training pit still open. Link sat by her feet, the goofy look still on his face as the stranger and her mokai approached.
Hi there! Nasty limp you got there. I’m Link! his tail beat harder on the ground. Lila and I are gonna be training soon! the boy was as hyperactive as they come. Others would likely be looking for the off switch on him. With his large orange eyes, the male looked up at his owner. Come on Lila! he whined.
“Hush, Link.” The girl gave a sheepish grin to the other female. “I’m Lila, and this here is Link.”
At his name, the male’s wagging started up again.(205)

"Hi," K. said with a wave as she and Kuruk approached. Kuruk tried to walk without a limp, but it pained him, so he huffed and he sighed and he continued to walk on.
Gruffly, he murmured to himself, then thinking, still grumbling. He didn't want to be hurt, he wanted to fight, to win, again. He was doing so well, he wanted to continue. This felt like, ugh, it hurt so bad, his leg. Maybe he shouldn't train, no, he had to, he had to!
Kuruk looked to the other mokai as they entered to training pit, the other male seemed young, or younger. Kuruk quirked a brow, he had so much, energy, excitement. He let his ears twitch, and watched the male for a little while before saying, I'm Kuruk, wish I didn't have the limp he huffed again. K. looked down at him and he turned away as if he hadn't done anything at all.
"LInk, cute name for a little fella," K. said looking at the other boy. He had interesting colors, and seemed overjoyed...over excited.
"Do you mind if Kuruk and I join you for a bit? He was hurt last fight, but he is so eager to stretch his legs I think," but K. wasn't sure what he could do.
Race, agility, something without a lot of contact?

Lila’s smile widened. “Of course not! Though, I am afraid that Link isn’t much of a…typical fighter so to speak?” She was sure everyone had heard of their mishaps the first few battles, in which Link would end up having a joyous time rather than one of ripping flesh.
“He…er…Well, let’s just say that you won’t have any problems with Kuruk getting injured anymore.” Even though she hadn’t really introduced the brown mokai, by asking permission to join, Lila just assumed the obvious. “You want to go in and have fun with Link, Kuruk?” She asked the other male, closing the gate as soon as K and her mokai had stepped in.
“Okay Link! Go have fun!” She called out.
Aww, battle fight? I got one too! Though, it’s not…as bad as yours! Link pointed to the scratch marks on his flank. He wasn’t too happy about them, but his freak out in the pit had caused Lila to keep in out of the arena for the week. It didn’t bother him, that just meant now he could fight with Kuruk!
Getting down in a playful position, Link waited for Kuruk to do the same...hopefully.
Come on! Bet you can’t catch me! It might have been a bad thing for the little dark mokai to say, being as the brown one had a significant limp, but no one said Link was the brightest bulb in the box.(237)

"Kuruk, you could say isn't either, he has his ways of doing things, is stubborn sometimes," K. said jokingly, but in all seriousness, it was a true fact. Kuruk liked to use his body weight as his weapon of choice in the pit. He didn't rely on fang or claw, and he didn't have any type of physical trait that would aid him in doing damage. He seemed laid back, and that also came to be when it was time to fight.
At the dark mokai's words, Kuruk quirked a brow, took a step forward, and watched the male play bow. Kuruk grinned, went to do the same but felt a twinge in his back. Now, that wasn't going to work too well was it? He huffed, looking to K., then the male, and then heard his words.
A challenge?
He narrowed his eyes, fur not standing on end, but it almost seemed to in a wave and then dissipate.
All at once, Kuruk aimed and started to try and chase the dark mokai, trying to keep his darn limp in tow.
It was not working well. As soon as Kuruk lunged forward, he felt a twang of pain shoot through his leg, his muscle, and he grimaced as he moved. He was angry, and heard K., possibly willing him to stop, but he wouldn't listen. No, he wanted to catch, or at least tag this little dark mokai. He had to!
"Ugh, see, there he goes again, Kuruk, take it easy! Kuruk-ugh," K. said touching a hand to ehr forehead, feeling a headache coming on.
Stubborn, he was so stubborn sometimes.

“At least he is dedicated?” Lila offered, watching the two mokai chase each other around. Sensing that K didn’t really want the other to run as much, the female made a gesture towards her own mokai. Her hands only rose slightly, but just that little bit of motion caused Link to be distracted enough for the other mokai to catch him.
No fair! Link called out, laughing. Lila distracted me! Okay, this time you run! Okay! Ready…go! the dark male waited to see if the other was going to run before he gave his owner an glance, and went after him.
Link badly wanted to tackle the other, but he had to take in mind the injury, so he wouldn’t hurt the other mokai more.(125)

What kind of training was this?
Kuruk made a face when the other male, Link, his owner made a gesture and slowed him down. You are too easily distracted he said simply as they chased, he came near, and it appeared they were to switch roles. Do you know how to read another's movements, to see where they are going to go? It can help you in the pit Kuruk suggested, if the male wanted to learn.
Kuruk took a few steps away from him, and then stopped, obviously not wanting to run too much, his leg already ached him.
K. gave Kuruk a nervous look, the look in his eyes, the look towards the other mokai, he wouldn't try to..no, he was too weak for any type of damage. Wasn't he?
If you like to play, that's good, and the chase has stretched my leg, so I appreciate it, now it is time I show my appreciation to you, learn fast boy Kuruk said with a smirk. He took a side step, then back, then a side step to the other direction then back. Watch me, my movement, more importantly, p.b.j.
It was K.s favorite type of sandwich, it was what she called it, but it was useful in training too, he learned.
Paws.
Belly.
Jowels.
You watch those three areas, and you can learn to read your opponents movements. Try to mirror me, if you can he challenged.

So? Link asked, his head tilting a bit. It’s not like this is a big battle or anything. It’s just for fun! Link smiled. His head remained at the tilt from the other’s suggestion. Mmm…Can’t say that I do. My opponents usually have the same attack style as me, though, the attack style meant nothing. Everyone he had really battled against made the fight a game, just like him. Except for the last two fights, when the competitors were a bit different. More into it, perhaps?
Link gave a small frown as the other told him to ‘learn fast’. Whatever that meant, Link was prepared. He watched the other sidestepping back and forth, not quite sure what it was to mean. When he explained the p.b.j., he just nodded a bit. It was an interesting way to think of it.
The dark male was on for the challenge. He would think of it as a logic puzzle type of game, where he would have to memorize things in order to win. He took a side step in the same direction Kuruk had, then back, and then the other side step. Like this?
Lila blinked at the oddities of the two mokai. “What…are they doing?” She asked K, still watching both males’ movements. It was obvious Link was trying to mimic whatever Kuruk was doing. It was a shame mokai and humans could not understand each other.(236)

It can be for fun, yes, but it also helps to learn something new that can help Kuruk said while side stepping. It seemed Link continued to understand, and began to join in. Kuruk smiled and nodded at Link. Good, you see if you watch those three areas, you can watch where they might move. It means a bigger, or faster opponent, doesn't necessarily get the upper paw on you, know what I mean? he said smiling.
"Seems like Kuruk is trying to show Link something maybe?" K. said with a question, it did seem that way. She smiled, Kuruk was so sweet, even when he was so gruff when injured.
He felt a twang of pressure in his leg again, grimaced and stopped, licking his lips.
If you remember that, it will help you in the pits Kuruk said matter of factly. You have a lot of energy in you, use it in the pit and don't let your guard down, and you'll come out on top.
He stretched his leg and looked to K. and walked to her, resting by her side and looked to Link, I'd do more, but my leg, it hurts too much, I'm sorry, he said apologetically. Perhaps next time.
"Seems like he's tired, but at least got some energy out," K. said.
This seemed to work well, but she knew, regardless, Kuruk still had to take it slow for a little while longer.
