Tairyn was bored and that was never good. Life could be so dull at times. What she craved was excitement, the chance to let loose, have some fun, and not have a care in the world. The meadow in which she currently found herself in was anything but exciting. How much fun could you have with nothing but grass all around. Oh she could run around, but really that was no fun without something to run with, to race as fast as one could, the wind throwing her mane back. That would not be the case today. Not unless she found someone else who wanted to do something. Her friend Clafuray wasn't around today and to be perfectly honest without the other mare around life could be downright boring.

Kicking a stone Tairyn set off to find something or someone interesting to put her energy into. Her brightly colored pelt should make it easy for her to stand out to anyone who may wander this way. And just to be sure everyone knew she was here Tairyn let out a laud whiny, letting the world know she was here as she took off at a gallop across the meadow.

Oh! That’s a good one!

Keagan smiled to himself and set about the task of pulling a strong vine from the tree it had grown around. He tugged at it with his teeth, but it was slow to budge. The big stallion grumbled a little, but there was a determined gleam to his green and black eyes, “You’re a stubborn one aren’t you?” He spoke to no one in particular. He talked to himself all the time, as he was often alone with no one but himself for company when he went on his adventures or, like he was doing today, gathering supplies for his Uncles tinkering and inventions.

The big male set his weight back on his hooves and pulled as hard as he could without damaging the vine itself. Gigantic hooves dug into the soft earth and the air was full of the sound of rustling branches and creaking vines. But another sound soon found its way into Keagan’s pale cream ears.

Was that… hooves?

Keagan dropped was he was doing and lifted his big head to survey the meadow behind him with both curiosity and apprehension. He’d heard that there might be skinwalkers in these parts, but he needn’t have worried, that was no skinwalker streaking like the wind across the meadow, it was a kirin… A female kirin flying straight at him like a screaming rainbow bullet.

Okay, maybe he should have worried.

Closing her eyes Tairyn continued to race across the meadow. Things were more exciting and dangerous when one couldn't see where they were going. Besides, she had only earlier walked across this very area of the meadow and knew there would be no obstacles in the way. No stumps to run into or large rocks to trip over. Of course where was the fun in running blindly through a clear path? Her short mane flying behind her, the grass tickling her legs as she ran, it was pretty good. Could be more interesting but certainly better than standing around waiting for action.

Cracking her eyes open Tairyn was met with the sudden appearance of a stallion in her path. When did he get there? She was galloping at full speed and with a moment of panic put on the brakes. Her hooves slid across the grass, kicking up a cloud of dust. But it wasn't enough. She was still going too fast and the stallion was even closer now. Kicking her legs Tairyn shifted her weight to the left. Her body managed to get out of the way just in time as she dashed past the large stallion. What a rush! Planting her hooves once more Tairyn managed to slide to a stop a short distance past the male and then turned around.

"What were you doing in the way big boy?" She called out while trotting towards him. He was a big lad, but that didn't stop her from getting nice and close. "A girl could get hurt running into a hunk of a stallion like you." She gave him a wink to show him she wasn't made, just joking about. Her eyes drifted over him for a moment. Interesting coloration, dark mane much like her own and what was up with that stuff swirling around his hoof? Lowering her head a bit she inspected his front hoof, then the bells hanging around his neck until she finally looked him in the eye, her face extremely close to his. "So you got a name or should I just call you handsome?" Yes she was flirting with him already, a habit she had anytime a new stallion came into her view.

Alert ears stood pricked with alarm and growing curiosity. Keagan pawed at the ground, but didn’t move from the path; while the mare was charging at him, she didn’t seem to be charging AT him in particular… she was just running… with her eyes closed, he noted as she drew closer. He barely had time to wonder what kind of crazy Soquili would run blind across a meadow before she was on top of him. Her pale eyes had opened at the last possible second and dirt flew in the air as she tried to stop, but was unable to.

A burst of adrenaline spurred Keagans body to action and he jumped to his left as she shifted to hers and the two narrowly avoided a collision.

Nostrils flared with excitement, the stallion swung around and studied the newcomer with a bemused gin on his face. The last thing he’d expected to do today was play a surprise game of Chicken! “I was in the way? But you were the one flying blind as a bat!” He protested, but his words were offset by a playful grin; he wasn’t any more angry than she was. His heart still trotted in his chest, a result of the excitement, but his body relaxed as he shifted on his hooves, silent as she inspected him. He was used to others being curious about his shadowy hoof. As she looked him over, he did the same, taking in her wild, windblown mane, bright white scales and vibrant, bone-like markings.

I wouldn’t say no to Handsome, but most folks just call me Keagan.” Another grin took hold of his lips and, despite the closeness of the flirty mare, he remained relaxed, “And your name? Let me guess... Beautiful? How about Danger? Trouble with a capital T?” He wasn’t usually very flirty, but when others were willing to play the game, he wouldn’t disappoint.

Tairyn smirked a bit at the stallion. "Of course you were in the way. You weren't there when I started running which put you in my way." She scoffed a bit. "Running blind is just the way I do things. Where's the fun in always being able to see where you're going? You gotta take risks every now and then." Without doing so life was fairly pointless in her mind. How some Soquili kept going on each day when they followed the same old routine without fail was beyond her. Clearly they lacked that sense of thrill that so loudly spoke to her every moment of every day.

"Keagan huh? I suppose I can call you that, even if Handsome suits you quite well." As he continued to speak Tairyn looped around him, letting her tail accidentally caress his side before coming to a stop in front of him once more. "All of the above." She smirked at him. "Though Tairyn works as well." Her tail flicked behind her as she thought for a moment. "So, Handsome, what were you doing in my way? Wishing to sweep me off my feet or simply slow me down knowing how much I hate that?" Nothing irked her more than those who wanted her to do the "normal" things in life. Tairyn wasn't normal, she never would be normal not did she have a desire to be it. Life was a one time thing, without living each day to it's fullest potential there was no point in waking up in the morning.

Glancing towards the ground Tairyn picked up her one hoof and passed it through the swirling shadows around his own. "And what is up with that? I though I was the only weird one out here." She didn't worry about offending him by calling him weird, if he was offending then he could damn well leave. Besides, weirdness was a good thing in her eyes.

Keagan snorted gently, rolling his eyes a bit in amusement, but he didn’t point out that he hadn’t moved from that spot for several minutes before their little collision. “Good point, good point, but if it’s all the same, I think I’ll leave the blind running to you. As fun as it is to tempt fate, I trip over my own hooves enough as it is.” He looked her up and down, her words and the bright gleam in her eye suggested a temperament as wild as her mane. Adventure had always been a calling of his, he craved new experiences and relished meeting new Soquili and seeing new places, but even he didn’t constantly seek the same hair-raising thrills that this new mare seemed to.

She circled him and he remained unperturbed, following her with his eyes, a friendly smile playing at his lips. An amused eyebrow cocked as he felt her tail brush his side. He got the feeling she was always this flirty. “A pleasure Tairyn.” He nodded, always the polite one. “Ah, if I’d known such a lovely lady would come streaking across my path, I might have planned it that way.” He returned her smirk before continuing, “But I suspect you’re pretty hard to plan for.” He shook his head, “Nah, I was out here getting supplies for my Uncle’s inventions; vines, strong twigs, sharp stones, bits of metal or bone. Things like that.” He shrugged a little; it was one of his more uninteresting activities.

Ha!” Keagan let out a little laugh and picked up his shadowy hoof, “As far as looks go, this is tame compared to some Soquili I’ve met!” He sobered a little, “This though, I got this from my dad. I don’t know what the deal is with it; I’ve never met the guy to find out. It’s not dangerous as far as I can tell… maybe it would be more interesting if it was.” He shrugged again before gently, playfully nosing at her side.

Tairyn let a smile cross her lips once more. "Handsome and clumsy, now there is a combination that's hard to resist." Now she almost wanted to see him trip and fall, if only to laugh and flirt with his fallen over self. Perhaps she could get him moving and see his clumsy side in action. Then she could come to his aide and get even closer than she already was to him. Nothing excited her more than being close to a stallion. Giving her head a slight shake Tairyn tried to focus on what he was saying. Well wasn't he the polite thing. She wasn't always drawn the the polite type, the bad boys were her favorite but this stallion had her attention for the moment. She couldn't help but let out a laugh.

Stepping forward she moved her head closer so that she could whisper in his ears. "I can't be planned for." And as her head pulled back once more her cheek brushed against hers, and that action was certainly not an accident. His next words made her eyebrows raise a bit in curiosity. Gathering items for his uncles inventions? What a strange thing indeed. "Never met an inventor before, or an inventors assistant. What is it that you help your uncle make?" And is he as handsome as you are, she added mentally.

"Well if this is tame then you must show me these Soquili you have met. Most of the ones I have run into have been terribly dull." His explanation of his hoof brought her attention back to his little oddity. So his father had something similar. Interesting. She had never seen a Soquili before with such a feature before. Of course Keagan's mention of it not being dangerous made her pout. "Well where's the fun in that?" It would have been so much cooler had it been even just a bit dangerous.

Bemused was the smirk on Keagan’s face, “Funny… most people don’t consider clumsiness an asset, but there’s a first time for everything I suppose.” His stance remained calm and relaxed as he continued following her with his eyes, watching her closely. She wasn’t dangerous, at least not in any threatening kind of way, but she was getting much closer in the few minutes since they’d met than any other Soquili he’d met. But hey, a first time for everything, right?

A small, involuntary shiver ran down his spine at the intimate contact, but he blew out a slow breath through his nostrils and other than a shift of his hooves, he remained unperturbed. The amused smile remained, tugging at the corners of his lips.

I’m not really an assistant so much as the helpful nephew. I don’t have the concentration or the coordination to make things like Uncle Cad does. The rest of the family thinks he’s too reclusive, but he makes some pretty cool things.” Pale ears flickered back and forth as he spoke affectionately of his family. “He loves to tinker; he takes things apart and puts them back together just to see how they tick. He makes all sorts of stuff… Once, I hear he made a set of gliding wings for my Mom and Aunt, so they could fly!” The stallion’s eyes were bright and his boyish grin was almost giddy. As an earth-bound Soq, he had only ever dreamed of flying like a bird, but it was an adventure he longed for.
