Vikali's chest heaved in and out as she slowed her run down to a trot and finally a walk, loping over the pridelands in a manner which suggested she didn't really have anywhere to be. The workout had been a good one, she'd pushed her stamina pretty hard and her muscles burned. All of this felt good, even if she was feeling slightly tired. There wasn't much else to do in the lands now that all of her cubs were grown; they had been adults for a while. It was disappointing how many males she'd had though, but you couldn't win every gamble. Ki had proven to be a strong female, a good female.
It was a little lonely these days... she'd occasionally visit her mother, but that wasn't the same as having a hunting partner. Having a friend! She missed Koy dearly, but that was also something she couldn't keep feeling sad about. After a few more steps her gaze flickered around the area; she was near the borders. She spotted a nice large, flat rock not far off and lopped toward it, pulling herself onto it and stretching out.
Once she was settled she began to clean at her paws and legs, and after a while just raised her head toward the sky and shut her eyes, basking in the warmth of the day. Soon night would fall, the sun was fairly low in the sky. She panted slightly as the heat settled into her bones, it felt nice.

Ukir had left the grounds a long time ago. The reason still was a mystery to him. One day he was having fun with Vikali, and the next, he just had upped and left. No goodbyes, no ‘come with me’. Just gone. But he had returned. It seemed like it was just in the nick of time really. The lands once were thriving, but today it seemed quiet. Something must have gone on, leaving the lands in the state it was in. He wondered just how the golden lioness was faring. If something drastic had gone on in the lands, was she okay? Taking the thoughts out of his mind, the deep crimson male wandered into the lands he had never really called home. His chocolate brown eyes scanned the area, widening at the sight before him. Well speak of the devil, there she was. He didn’t speak, nor walk up to her. Instead, Ukir observed from afar, watching her carefully.

Vikali wondered if maybe she should just up and leave the lands? It wasn't like her children needed her for any reason at all, and her mother was just a bother. Still, these lands were comfortable. They were home, were they not? She took a deep breath, she'd calmed quite a bit since she'd last seen Ukir so long ago. And it had been so long that when his scent tickled at her nostrils she thought nothing of it, thinking another pridelander was just wandering around like she'd been doing.
It took her brain a few minutes to realize that scent, to understand that it was a familiar scent. A scent she should have never forgotten, bit time passed and... really who could believe her? He'd just up and disappeared. Though to be fair right around the time she realized she was pregnant she'd avoided him like the plague... how many days had they spent together without fighting, two? At most, probably. She chuckled to herself, almost fond of the miserable memories.
After a moment she stretched her paws out. She probably just smelt a scent similar to his... after all, what reason did he have to come back to the pridelands? It had all been a game to him after all. She opened her bright eyes slowly and climbed to her paws, stretching her hind legs out one by one before hopping from the rock. She was headed back toward pride rock when his scent became stronger, and she frowned. After a few seconds her gaze wandered slowly around, and when it came upon a crimson lion with a silver-gray mane her gait slowed and then stopped. There she stood, staring wide eyed in his direction.

He just watched her for a few minutes. She seemed so peaceful, that was usually not the case with her. He sighed. Seeing as she was content, and not absolutely heartbroken that he was gone, he should just up and leave. He was going too, until the moment that Vikali had started to get up. If he was going to be getting out of here, it best be now. But something stopped him. He should be hightailing it out of there, yet he couldn’t. Frozen in his spot, Ukir watched as Vikali seemed to be tasting the air. Then, she was the one to focus on him. Well, there went his cover. His eyes held the same look as she did. With a sheepish grin, the male lifted his paw in the air, waving at the female. It probably wasn’t the best move to do after you had not seen the one you loved in such a long time, but then again, no one said Ukir was the brightest tool in the shed.

As he indicated a hello with his paw in the air she felt her stomach twist in knots, and her mouth go slightly dry. What was he doing back here after all of this time? Ah... had he gotten bored with with whatever it was he'd been up to? Was he back to play games with her again? That turned the fluttering butterflies into something less exciting and more sour. Well... well two could play that game, couldn't they? Still, even as she tried to push thoughts of revenge and anger to the frontmost of her mind, but it wasn't easy. Mostly she felt like she wanted to turn the other way and make a run for it. Was she supposed to tell him after all of this time that she'd given birth to two sons? His two sons?
She cleared her throat, tried to furrow her brow and moved toward him. Slowly, hesitantly. He wanted to mess with her... wanted to break the peace and solitude she'd built up these past moons... many, many moons. But she couldn't manage to keep the annoyed look on her face, it melted back into confusion and hurt, and after going about halfway to him she stopped again. "W-what are you doing... back here Ukir?" She called out, trying to figure out how the hell she was supposed to react to him being here. "You here for another fun round of games?" She called out dully, unable to sound pissed like she'd done when they were younger lions. She was... scared she suddenly realized. Scared at his appearance here, because it hurt. Right there in her chest, it was painful.

Ukir shied a bit from the approaching female, but otherwise stood his ground. His dark chocolate eyes watched her, before his ears perked forward, listening as the golden female spoke. What was he doing here? It had been so long, could it be the fact that he missed the female? Or perhaps the stability of these lands? (Or at least, what once were stable lands. Whatever happened seemed to be recovering, but it must have been an epic battle to leave the scars on the lands.
“Oh, Hello to you too Kitten!” Ukir said with a feigned cheery voice. “No ‘Oh Darling! I’ve missed you?’, nothing?” Ukir looked sad, but it was all an act. At least, it usually was. Maybe there was a glimmer of truth behind the words and look, but he’d never say.
“Well, since you mention /that/, I could go for another round.” He gave a wink towards Vikali, knowing how to push her buttons. He had better be careful though, or else he’d have some pretty scars on his face.

Her stomach gave an uneasy roll, she felt disgusted. His words were familiar, teasing... she could see there was a different edge to them that she couldn't place, but mostly her brain focused only on the fact that he was here to try and hurt her, again. This only seemed to make the pain worse, so bad that she wanted anything else to take it's place. She wanted... she wanted Ukir, she realized. She wanted him to come wrap his paws around her... she wanted his bulky body snuggled close to hers and... she wanted her damn thoughts to stop right that instant! There, there was that spark of fire she desperately grabbed onto, even if she was liable to burn herself in the process. She didn't dare bring herself any closer to Ukir though, she knew it would be too tempting...
"Is that the best you can do?" She sneered, eyes narrowing as her tone became angry. "Well here's a game for you.." Stupidly she was about to bring up Suoh and Kilo, but held her tongue. <******** off." There, that was a lovely cover. She was serious too, she couldn't just... she couldn't just drop that wall she'd so carefully reconstructed now that he was back! Did he think she was just going to run right to him after not seeing him for so long? Oh how she wanted to cuddle into that warm chest of his! She turned away from him, her fur bristling. "Darling I've missed you so." She muttered sarcastically, but it was painful too. "See? Game complete. Seriously just ******** off." She wasn't shouting as she normally might have, but her voice was still fierce and... and afraid.

“Oh honey, no need to be like that,” Ukir crooned out, raising to his feet. He didn’t want to be a sitting duck if Vikali turned on the offensive for him. His ears perked forward as she mentioned a game, but instead decided to call out some profanity instead. Shaking his head, the red male spoke, “Now, that sort of language does suit a lovely lady like yourself. You should act more properly.” Ukir was really asking for a lashing. But, deciding to continue to joke with the female, the male took her up on the offer as to leave. “Well…if that’s the case. I didn’t come back to see you anyways.” He said with a proud smirk. “Got another lady I’m meeting since you are so happy to get rid of me. I guess I will take you up on that offer of leaving now.” He smirked, wanting to brush past the female, but secretly hoped she would see his joking demeanor underneath the lies. She had to have…right? She wouldn’t think he was serious about seeing another lioness.

She snorted at his comment, rolling her eyes. "Lady, proper? Bleh." She seemed to spit the words on the ground as she completely disregarded the comment he made. "I'll act a lady just as soon as you learn some manners of your own, Ukir." Who the hell did he think he was speaking to? As if he was some proper gentleman! And didn't he realize who was the damn cause for language and attitude like that? Right, his! And maybe her mother helped raise her like that... but he really had no right.
She'd turned and started a few paces away from him when he delivered a crushing blow. His words alone were cause few pause, but when she glanced toward him with wide eyes and spotted that proud smirk on his maw she couldn't help but feel he was being completely serious. It froze her blood, caused her muscles to tense and she couldn't contain the pain that overtook her facial features. He'd... he'd found somebody else? "You're lying..." Her words sounded hollow even to herself, she didn't believe them one bit. He'd been gone for so long, after all. And she'd never gone looking for him, had she?
And then he started heading in her direction, and panic completely overtook her brain. "Youre... you're terrible! You're the worst! I... you.." The words poured from her mouth randomly, and she couldn't help what she was saying. She began to stumble over them, her brain trying much too hard to process if what he was saying was a lie or another joke... but even if it was a joke, hadn't it gone too far? "Well... well enjoy her then." She spat the words with contempt and as much anger and hatred she could muster, but all her ears could capture was her own pain in her voice. She turned and started swiftly away, picking up her pace into a full run. What was going on, why did this hurt so much? She couldn't even be honest with him... because he didn't want that, did he? He didn't want some b***h of a lioness like her chaining him down... that was why he left in the first place, wasn't it?

Even though he probably should have stopped with the joke, the crimson male carried on just a little long. “Am I now? You are welcome to follow me if you want, to be sure.” If she did decide to do that, then she would obviously find out how much of a lie that was. He was silenced by her next words. He wanted to say that it was just a lie, a joke, something they could laugh about as they grow old and have children together. However, she didn’t see it as that. Instead, she took his words, spitting them right back at him with such spite, even Ukir couldn’t think of the proper words to use. Before he could even speak, the female was gone. “Well…that went well.” Ukir huffed, glaring at the sky. “Stupid, stupid, stupid!” …He’d have to make it up to the female somehow. He would…just let her cool down for a few days first.END
