Cadhla's steps crunched on the ground. It's become stiff and brittle with the morning's frost. He was out once more, looking for more things to use in his inventions. He'd spent some time dawdling, nudging his mother's cheek that morning to wake her and let her know he'd be going off for a few hours if not the whole day. It wasn't that his mother was terribly nosy. She just worried about him from time to time. As a courtesy, he'd taken to waking her and letting her know when he'd wander off to go investigate things or collect supplies.
The sun's morning rays warmed his pale coat as he stepped out of the treeline and started to make his way leisurely across the open grounds. He snatched up mouthfuls of what was left of the dead grass as his breakfast. It was dry and tasteless but it was sufficient enough to satisfy his hunger. Stopping mid field, he looked up at the sky and ran a few numbers through his head. He was close, he knew it he was very close to cracking the equation he needed in order to make improvements on his first invention so that it would support the weight of a full grown soquili rater than just a foal's weight.

Umeko had made shelter in an abandoned cave at the foot of the mountains near her family lands. It had been some time since she had left the care of her parents, but she never went far from home. She enjoyed her solitude, but she enjoyed the fact that her family was only a few paths away through the trees. She had drug in leaves and tall grass when the season was just beginning to turn, making her home as warm as possible during the winter months. The sun had begun to peek into her home, waking her gently from her slumber. After shaking her coat and stretching, Umeko found her way to her feet. Her stomach rumbled slightly, it was time to set out for breakfast. Cautiously she peered out of her home before exiting, making sure it was safe to start her day.

He stood there, lost in the networks of his mind as he mulled things over. His mind always seemed to distract him from things. Swallowing down the mouthful he'd been chewing, he idly took a new bite of grass as he glanced up at the sky. He'd figure it out soon he was sure. All he needed to do was focus on the one task and stop getting distracted. But some times the distractions were helpful. Sometimes they helped him take a needed breather to allow his mind to rest and get a fresh new look at it.
As he watched the sky, he watched a flock of birds passing over head, most likely seeking a warmer climate fore the colder months. Though it was a bit odd seeing them flying off so late. Ears perking, he tore his eyes from the birds and back to the grass. A small smile toyed on his maw as he decided to just enjoy the morning for now, settling down into the grass.

Making her way through the opening, Umeko stretched her wings and smiled as the sun hit her coat. She paced herself at a sauntering walk as she left her home looking for breakfast. She took a few bites of the sparse grass from around her home as she headed down the path towards what small green patches were left in a clearing not far from her location.
Finding the end of the path, she stopped, her ears flickered as her eyes caught sight of another sprawled in the sun enjoying the solitude of the morning. A gorgeous pale coat and flowing mane dressed the stranger. He was far from dangerous looking, and seemed to be lost in his own thoughts.
She cleared her throat, loudly, to get his attention.

His coat was warming as the sun washed over it though a sound tore his thoughts from himself. The swiveling of his ears was the first indication that he'd heard her. Soon his head followed, gray-blue eyes scanned his surroundings till they found the source. It was a dark blue mare with a wash of bright colors that reminded him much like the colors of a sun setting into dark night. Standing, he turned to face her completely. He was tall for a stallion though he still held the slender wiry built frame of a cerynei. "Good morning." He offered a smile as he spoke and bowed his head slightly in a courteous greeting. He wasn't entirely knightly, but his father and great grand father would have his hide had he not shown some sort of decorum when meeting a new face.
"Out for a stroll?" He asked before his eyes fell on the mare's wings. Ah wings.. so many he'd seen and met with wings still they functioned in a way that baffled him to this day. His ears perking with interest, he took a few steps closer to gain a better view of the wings. Shaking his head he realized he was doing it once more.. allowing his own mechanical curiosity to creep up and steal his attention.

She smiled and lowered her head in a return greeting, "Indeed. It has come time for breakfast and I was just making my way." she lifted her head once more to it's usual position.
She noticed how he looked over her wings. In honesty, it wasn't an unusual situation. Many foals, even those with their own wings, often found it interesting to look at those of others. She flared them, ever so slightly, for him to get a better look. "It's okay, I don't mind the curiousity," she let out a soft laugh.
"Traveling alone?" she had not caught the scent of any others in the area, but it was always polite (and safer) to ask.

"Ah breakfast.. yes the most essential meal of one's day.. a better way to start one's work is on a full stomach I should say.. never does my inventions any good when I'm hungry.. too distracting." He chuckled lightly only to blink as she fanned out her wings some and with a sheepish look, he cleared his throat. "I really didn't mean to stare.. I seem to have a bad habit in letting my own mechanical thought process to abscond with all reasoning and decorum long enough to try and assess things better..." He gave a nod as if he might be agreeing with himself.
"Alone? Ah yes.. My sisters often let me alone to gather my essential equipments so that I might make them interesting new things to play with.. It's been that way since we were foals.. I'd tinker and they'd feed my curious need to create things by challenging my mind in making things for them." He looked around behind her half expecting her to have an escort behind her some where. "And you? Are you traveling unaccompanied as well?"

"A tinkerer, eh?" her ears perked slightly, "An inventor of great things I'm sure. And no worries, I do not mind you looking. I know wings can be a curious thing for those that do not carry them." her head bobbed as she smiled. She took a few steps closer to the male as she continued to talk, he seemed harmless.
"Yes, yes. I normally travel alone. I suppose you could say I get it from my mother's side of the family... They're all travelers it seems. Care to join me for breakfast?" To be honest, she'd enjoy the company. Though it was rare she ever had any, she enjoyed being able to trade stories with others that she encountered. The stallion seemed intriguing, she'd like to hear more of his own story.

He smiled a genuine smile as he realized she wasn't put off by his curiosity. "I dabble in a few things here and there you could say..." Usually companionship and the idea of it often seemed to baffle him for it's scientific uses, outside of the use a familiar might provide he'd never quite understood as a foal why one needed friends and other such companions when they had a family as large as his own. It was this reason his sister has teased him that he had been switched in his basket by some creature of mischievous intentions. It wasn't till he met now close friend that he'd started to understand some of why his mother had wanted him to get out and socialize outside of the herd lands he'd grown up in.
Shaking his mane out of his eyes, he pushed the thought aside. "Breakfast sounds delightful." He looked around, not minding her stepping closer to him. She didn't seem like she'd be much of a threat after all. It was as he started to turn he realized they'd been conversing all this time and he still hadn't introduced himself. Oh how his great grandfather would lecture him. "But perhaps.." He turned to face her once more. "Perhaps an introduction is in order? I'm Cadhla, though Cad's fine.. Most have a hard time pronouncing my full name."

She stopped and smiled, "Cadhla, that's beautiful." his name rolled easily off of her tongue as her family members all had very unique, though tongue twisters, for names. "Umeko." she lowered her head in a formal greeting, "Mine is a touch easier I suppose."
Just as she lifted her head the scent of berries wafted to her nose, "Mmm, berries are close." she turned to look for the bush that held the treasures. As she began to look for breakfast, she continued to talk, "So tell me, Cad, what is it you create?" She found a bush with beautiful read berries, she broke off a branch and held it out for Cadhla. "Brweakfast" she mumbled around the branch.

Cad gave a small bow of his head, nothing fancy like the flourished of his great grandfather, but it was formal enough. "It is a pleasure meeting you, Umeko." He offered her a genuine smile. "You're name is quite lovely."
He followed her gaze to the bush. "Berries sound nice.. I didn't know there were some ripe so early in the season." He admitted he was a bit baffled by it. Yet, there she stood a branch of them in her maw. Ears flicking forward, he sniffed the berries and determined them to be the edible sort. Taking a few berries, he was careful not to tug the branch from her mouth.
